We here at MHMS are excited about the next school year and all the positive things that you will bring to our campus. While I know that you are about to start your summer break, it is important that you are ready for the school year ahead. So, your future 6 th grade reading teachers have prepared a summer reading assignment to help you stay on top of your reading and start the year off on the right foot. This summer, you are expected to read a novel of your choice and complete the assignment attached to this letter. Your novel should be at your reading level, not below, and it should be something that you enjoy. Feel free to pick a book that you have been wanting to read something that will spark your imagination. Then, read the instructions attached to this letter on how to complete a dialectical journal and a visualizing activity. As you read your novel, complete the dialectical journal using the sentence starters provided. Once you have finished, complete the visualizing activity using the images that your mind conjured as you read your novel. I know that you will enjoy reading your book and put your best efforts into completing the assignment. Remember, you have all summer to finish this assignment, and if you do a little every day, it should be complete and ready to turn in for that first day of school. 6 Visualizing Visualizing is using the words from your book to create mental images (a movie in your head). Directions: 1. Select a scene from your novel that creates a vivid image in your head. 2. Write a brief summary of what is happening in that scene and the page number. 3. In the box below illustrate your mental image.
