You head to the bathroom to brush your teeth. s always, you turn off the faucet while you re brushing. You then turn on the shower faucet to take a brisk, six- minute shower. You used to linger in the shower for over 20 minutes, but you know be#er now. Ger your speedy cleansing, you head back to your room and get dressed. 2 3 Once you ve go#en your clothes on, you head to the kitchen for breakfast. You grab a quick bite, and your mom hands you your lunch box. You peek inside to see what she packed. Mmmm a sandwich, a bunch of grapes, and some pretzels, neatly packed in reusable containers. She s also managed to fit some fruit juice in an aluminum can in the cloth bag. You fill up your water bo#le with water from the filtered pitcher in the refrigerator and head out the door. You usually carpool to school with a few other classmates who live in the neighborhood. However, since the weather is pleasant, you hop on your bike and quickly pedal to school. The mile- long ride is refreshing! Once you arrive at school, you greet your friends and head to the library. You have 25 minutes before your first class. You decide to work on your history research paper that s due in two weeks. You pop in your flash drive, open the file, and get to work! In the past, you d print out rough drags of your papers each Tme you wanted to revise it, but now, you just work directly on the computer. You glance at the clock. First period starts in seven minutes. You save your work and take out your flash drive. 1

2 6.7: Energy Sources The school day passes by quickly. efore you know it, the dismissal bell rings. Instead of heading home right away, you stay ager school for your weekly Environment lub meetng. You ve never missed a meetng and certainly don t plan to anytme soon, especially since you re vice president! uring today s meetng, some club members are writng le#ers to the Mayor and ity ouncil members asking for recycle bins for paper placed in every classroom in the school. Other group members pick up the aluminum cans and plastc bo#les from the recycle containers in the cafeteria and take them outside to the recycle bins. few other group members plan the details of the annual electronic recycle drive to be held next month. This event is always hectc. Students, faculty members, and people who live in the surrounding neighborhood can discard unwanted televisions, players, computers, video games, cell phones, printers, and other electronic items that are outdated, damaged, or broken. Last year, people discarded a lot of stuff! You collected over 250 items and received the Governor s 3G (Great Gains in Green) Environmental Excellence ward. When the meetng ends, you grab your bike off the bike rack and head home. Your mom greets you at the door. You can tell she s just come home from the farmer s market because she s unpacking several reusable fabric bags full of fresh fruits and vegetables. Your stomach begins to grumble as you think about what s in store for dinner! She soon calls you and the rest of the family to the dinner table. Your sister has already set the table, but she forgot to place the fabric napkins at each table se=ng. Now you are ready to enjoy a peaceful dinner with your family. s you are eatng dinner, you wish other people would follow your family s example of being aware of the environment around you. 2
