Ways to Use Task Cards 1. Model to the class how to use clues to make inferences. 2. Set the cards out around the room and have students go on a scavenger hunt. 3. Give each student a card to answer at their own desk. Then, have the students leave the card at their desk while they move to the desk next to them. Continue until all the cards have been answered. 4. Have partners answer the questions together 1 person reads the card, while the other person writes the answer on the answer sheet. For the next card, have the students switch roles! 5. Have early finishers complete the task cards Kalena Baker: Teaching Made Practical. All rights reser
Amy stood on her tiptoes trying to see around all the people. There were people in costumes walking down the street waving. There was a giant dog floating high above the crowd. Where is Amy? 1 Darius looked out the window. All he could see was water. He couldn t wait until he got to step onto dry land again, because the water rocking back and forth was making him sick. Where is Darius? 2 Jasmine was resting on a bench underneath a huge tree. She was tired after swinging for so long. She smiled at a girl that walked by with a dog on a leash. Where is Jasmine? As Emily walked down the path, she saw a giraffe stretching a neck, and she also saw a lion roaring. She was glad that there was a barrier between her and the lion. Where is Emily? 3 4
Durante was bundled up in a jacket, mittens, and a scarf, but he was still cold! He walked across the ice. It was everywhere! The only living thing he could see were penguins. Where is Durante? Do you know where the fiction books are? Brandon whispered to his friend. There were shelves full of books all around him, and Brandon was having a hard time finding the book he wanted. 5 6 Where is Brandon? Luza looked at herself in the mirror. Her hair was wet, and she didn t like her bangs. She asked the lady standing behind her to cut her bangs a little shorter. Where is Luza? Jessica was laying on a chair with her mouth open. A man stuck a metal piece in her mouth and tapped her teeth and her gums several times. Where is Jessica? 7 8
Gideon was nervous. The last time he looked out the window, he couldn t believe his eyes. They were above the clouds! He couldn t wait to land. Where is Gideon? Sherri s mouth was dry. She had been looking for water all day, but she couldn t find any. All she saw was dirt, camels, and cacti. Where is Sherri? 9 10 Conner had just taken his turn at the piñata. Now he was waiting for the cake and ice cream. As he looked around impatiently, he noticed several colorful balloons. Where is Conner? The crowd was yelling loudly at the man who had been pushed down. He pushed himself off the ice and started skating with his stick in his hand. Joe screamed for him to skate faster. Where is Joe? 11 12
Randy opened up the refrigerator and grabbed some leftover pizza. He stuck it in the microwave and grabbed a napkin while he was waiting. Where is Randy? Josh waited in line with the rest of the kids. When it was his turn, he picked up a tray and then walked to a table where his friends were sitting. He started eating. Where is Josh? Pamela set up her umbrella and laid out her towel. She noticed the seagulls were eyeing her sandwich, so she covered it with a bucket before they could get it. Where is Pamela? Jerica grabbed her last pair of jeans and stuffed them in the machine. Then she paid with two quarters and sat down to wait until her clothes were clean. Where is Jerica? 15 16
TayShawn grabbed his jacket and put it on. Then, he put on his scarf and mittens. He braced himself as he opened the door, because he knew the weather outside was miserable. What season is it? Christine was enjoying her walk. The temperature was nice, and the trees were beautiful with their red and yellow leaves. Christine noticed one of her neighbors had a pumpkin on their porch. What season is it? Asha pulled out her umbrella and opened the door. The tulips and roses in her front yard were starting to bloom! What season is it? Noah s ice cream was already starting to melt. Some of the chocolate dripped onto his hand, so Noah licked it as he looked for a shady spot out of the heat. What season is it? 19 20
