3 SD3-60 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL z General This manual has been prepared basically in accordance with the Air Transport Association of America Specification No. 100 (ATA 100) to Revision 21 standard. Where necessary, information has been included to comply with British Civil Airworthiness Requirements. 2. Content The purpose of this manual is to provide sufficient information to enable a mechanic who is unfamiliar with the aircraft type to troubleshoot, service and repair all systems and units and to remove and install any unit requiring such action on the line or in the hanger. Information on vendor equipment is included in this manual. Where vendor items are not fully described the operator should refer to the Illustrated Parts Catalogue for the component part number and then to the relevant vendor manual. Information on packaging, acceptance checks, storage instructions and for the return of units to the manufacturer or base is given in Chapter Method of using the manual A. Chapterization Chapters are allocated in accordance with ATA 100 and are listed in LIST OF CHAPTERS following this introduction. Information on all units comprising a system will be found in the chapter identified by the name of that system. For example, all units relating to the generation and distribution of electrical power are covered in Chapter 24 - ELECTRICAL POWER, but the fuel booster pumps (which are electrically driven) are covered in Chapter 28 - FUEL. 4 z SD3-60 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL B. Chapter Breakdown Each chapter is divided into sections and each section into subjects. These three elements (chapter - section - subject) are allocated numbers which appear at the bottom right-hand corner of each page. The allocation of the second element (section) number is derived from ATA 100 as indicated in the following example:- 1st element Chapter (System) 26 Fire Protection C. 5 SD3-60 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL z No one block of page numbers is likely to be fully used. Hence it is inevitable that page numbering for a subject will have unused numbers in its sequence. The List of Effective Pages (Para 5) will provide the operator with a complete list of all relative pages. 5. List of Effective Pages A List of Effective Pages is located at the beginning of each of each chapter to enable the operator to establish whether the chapter is complete and if it contains the appropriate issue of all pages. On each List of Effective Pages the date quoted against each page should correspond to the date on the relevant page. 6. Revisions Two types of revision will be issued: normal, printed on white stock, and temporary, printed on yellow `stock A. Normal Revisions will be made to this manual when necessary and manual holders will receive copies without request under the terms of agreement between Shorts and the manual holder. Each revision will contain a revised List of Effective Pages for each chapter affected and a copy of each revised page referred to in the List of Effective Pages. Each revision will be covered by a LETTER OF TRANSMITTAL which advises the holder what pages are to be removed and inserted. New or revised material will be indicated by a vertical line in the lefthand margin, except when a section or chapter is re-issued in a completely revised form. With effect from Revision 29 of this manual dated 01 Oct/97 a vertical line in the left-hand margin opposite the chapter/section/subject, page number and date, will indicate that the text was unchanged but the page layout was revised and material was relocated to a different page. A REVISION (NORMAL) RECORD SHEET is provided at the front of Volume 1 of the Manual. B. Temporary Temporary revisions will be issued to notify operators, at the earliest opportunity, of important changes affecting safety and performance. A REVISION (TEMPORARY) RECORD SHEET is provided at the front of the manual. The recording procedure is similar to that for normal revisions. After the incorporation of a revision it is important for the operator to check the issue and date on each page of affected chapters against the revised List of Effective Pages. The List of Effective Pages is the only document to be used for checking the manual for correct contents. 7. Conventions Words or letters printed in capitals, whether in the text or keys to figures, indicate that those words or letters actually appear on the aircraft or component on or near the items concerned. In general US preferred terminology is used, for instance `left' and `right' appears in preference to `port' and `starboard' respectively. Page 3

6 z SD3-60 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL 8. Mensuration In general, quantities are quoted first in the units used in the original design (Imperial/US) with SI metric quoted in parenthesis. Temperature are quoted first in Fahrenheit with Celsius equivalents given in parenthesis. 9. Aircraft Modifications To ensure that the information in this manual is compatible with the modification state of the aircraft, no information relating to Modifications issued after delivery of the aircraft will be incorporated retrospectively into this manual without the written assurance of the operator that he intends to embody a particular Modification. The only exceptions will be CAA Mandatory Modifications in which case the Manual will be revised according to the requirements of the Mandatory Modifications. Page 4
