1 TITLE FLIGHT CONTROLS - RUDDER AND ELEVATOR AUTOPILOT SERVO CABLE REPLACEMENT EFFECTIVITY REASON MODEL SERIAL NUMBERS 525 (M2) -0685, thru The equivalent of this service bulletin has been incorporated on production airplanes and On. The rudder and elevator autopilot servo cables attachments are different from other 525 airplanes. DESCRIPTION This service bulletin contains parts and instructions to replace the rudder and elevator autopilot servo cables to minimize the chance of incorrect assembly. COMPLIANCE MANDATORY. This service bulletin must be accomplished within 300 flight hours or one year from the date of receipt, whichever occurs first. A service bulletin published by Cessna Aircraft Company may be recorded as "completed" in an aircraft log only when the following requirements are satisfied: 1) The mechanic must complete all of the instructions in the service bulletin, including the intent therein. 2) The mechanic must correctly use and install all applicable parts supplied with the service bulletin kit. Only with written authorization from Cessna Aircraft Company can substitute parts or rebuilt parts be used to replace new parts. 3) The mechanic or airplane owner must use the technical data in the service bulletin only as approved and published. 4) The mechanic or airplane owner must apply the information in the service bulletin only to aircraft serial numbers identified in the "Effectivity" section of the bulletin. 5) The mechanic or airplane owner must use maintenance practices that are identified as acceptable standard practices in the aviation industry and governmental regulations. No individual or corporate organization other than Cessna Aircraft Company is authorized to make or apply any changes to a Cessna-issued service bulletin, service letter, or flight manual supplement without prior written consent from Cessna Aircraft Company. Cessna Aircraft Company is not responsible for the quality of maintenance performed to comply with this document, unless the maintenance is accomplished at a Cessna-owned Citation Service Center. Prepare the airplane for maintenance. A. Make sure that the airplane is electrically grounded. B. Make sure that all switches are in the OFF/NORM position. C. Disconnect electrical power from the airplane. (1) Disconnect the airplane batteries. (2) Disconnect external electrical power. D. Attach maintenance warning tags to the batteries and external power receptacle that have "DO NOT CONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER - MAINTENANCE IN PROGRESS" written on them. 2. Remove access panels 340BR and 340BL. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 6, Access Plates and Panels Identification - Description and Operation.) 3. Remove access panels 340EL and 340DR. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 6, Access Plates and Panels Identification - Description and Operation.) NOTE: Removal of these access panels will aid in the inspection of the installation of this service bulletin when it is complete. 4. Install the new Lower AP Rudder Cable, Left Mid Rudder Cable and Left Aft Rudder Cable. A. (Refer to Figure 1, View C-C and View E-E.) Remove and discard the Lower AP Rudder Cable. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 22, Garmin Rudder Autopilot Servo Assembly - Removal/Installation.) (1) Disengage the AFCS circuit breaker on the right circuit breaker panel in the cockpit. (2) Do an elevator and elevator trim tab travel check. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Elevator and Tab System Control Cables - Adjustment/Test.) (3) Remove and discard the clips from the turnbuckle that connects the Upper Rudder AP Cable to the aft rudder autopilot cable. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 20, Safetying - Maintenance Practices.) (4) Loosen the turnbuckle. (5) Remove the Upper Rudder AP Cable from the turnbuckle. (6) Loosen the clamp block nuts and discard the Clamp Block, Clamp Block and three each MS24694-C7 Screws, NAS1149FN816P Washers and MS21044N08 Nuts. (7) Remove the GSM 86 servo mount and the Lower AP Rudder Cable from the airplane. NOTE: The Upper Rudder AP Cable is removed when the GSM 86 servo mount is removed. Page 2 October 30, 2015
3 (8) (Refer to Detail B.) Record the position of the four cable guard pin locations on the GSM 86 servo mount. NOTE: The cable guard pins should be located at A, C, F and J. (9) Remove the capstan cover screws, capstan cover and four guard pins. (10) Remove the Lower AP Rudder Cable from the GSM 86 capstan drum. (a) Remove the Lower AP Rudder Cable from the spiral wrap capstan with retaining clips by sliding the ball past the clip while pressing the retaining clip with a flat screwdriver or similar tool. B. (Refer to Figure 1, Detail A.) Remove the Left Aft Rudder Cable Assembly. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 27, Rudder and Tab System - Maintenance Practices.) (1) Remove and discard the clips from the turnbuckle. (2) Loosen the turnbuckle. (3) Remove the Left Aft Rudder Cable Assembly from the turnbuckle. (4) Remove and discard the Left Aft Rudder Cable Assembly and MS21044N08 Nut from the aft sector and keep all other attaching hardware. C. (Refer to Figure 1, View C-C and View E-E.) Install the Lower AP Rudder Cable. (1) Put the Lower AP Rudder Cable on the GSM 86 capstan drum. (a) Make sure the ball is fully seated in the capstan drum. (2) (Refer to Detail B.) Install the cable guard pins in the recorded positions on the GSM 86 servo mounts. (a) Make sure the pins are located at A, C, F and J. (3) Put the capstan cover in its position on the cable guard pins. (a) (b) Install but do not tighten the capstan cover screws and washers. Torque the screws to between 8.0 to 12.0 inch-pounds. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 20, Torque Data - Maintenance Practices.) (4) Put the GSM 86 servo mount and the cables in their position at the servo mount bracket assembly. (5) Starting with two opposing bolts, torque all bolts to between 25.0 to 40.0 inch-pounds. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 20, Torque Data - Maintenance Practices.) D. (Refer to Figure 1, View B-B, View C-C and View E-E.) Install the Left Mid Rudder Cable and Left Aft Rudder Cable with the kept hardware and one new MS21042N08 Nut. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 27, Rudder and Tab System - Maintenance Practices.) (1) Attach the Left Mid Rudder Cable and Lower AP Rudder Cable to the Left Aft Rudder Cable with one AN23-13 Bolt, NAS1149F0332P Washer, MS Nut and MS Cotter Pin. (2) Attach the Left Aft Rudder Cable to the rudder sector with the kept MS Screw and one new MS21044N08 Nut. (3) Install the Left Mid Rudder Cable to the rudder turnbuckle located at FS E. Install the Upper Rudder AP Cable to the turnbuckle. October 30, 2015 Page 3
4 F. Rig the rudder control cables. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 27, Rudder and Tab System Control Cables- Adjustment/Test.) (1) Install two new MS Clips in the Left Mid Rudder Cable and Left Rudder Cable turnbuckle. (2) Install two new MS Clips in the Upper AP Cable and Elevator Rudder Upper Aft AP Cable turnbuckle. G. Do the yaw axis check operational check. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 22, Garmin GFC700 Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) - Adjustment/Test.) 5. Install the new Elevator Upper Aft AP Cable, Right Mid Elevator Cable and Right Aft Elevator Cable. A. (Refer to Figure 1, View C-C and View D-D.) Remove the Upper Aft AP Elevator Cable. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 22, Garmin Elevator Autopilot Servo Assembly - Removal/Installation.) (1) Remove and discard the clips from the turnbuckle that connect the Elevator Upper Auto Pilot Cable to the Upper Aft AP Elevator Cable. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 20, Safetying - Maintenance Practices.) (2) Loosen the turnbuckle. (3) Remove the Upper Aft AP Elevator Cable from the turnbuckle. (4) Loosen the clamp block nuts and remove the Upper Aft AP Elevator Cable from the upper clamp block. (5) Discard the Clamp Block, Clamp Block, three each MS24694-C7 Screws, NAS1149FN816P Washers and MS21044N08 Nuts. (6) Discard the Upper Aft AP Elevator Cable. B. (Refer to Figure 1, Detail A.) Remove the Right Aft Elevator Cable. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 27, Elevator and Tab System Control Cables- Maintenance Practices.) (1) Remove and discard the clips from the turnbuckle. (2) Loosen the turnbuckle. (3) Remove the Right Aft Elevator Cable from the turnbuckle. (4) Remove and discard the Right Aft Elevator Cable and MS21042L08 Nut from the aft sector and keep all other attaching hardware. C. (Refer to Figure 1, View C-C.) Install the Elevator Upper Aft AP Cable. (1) Put the Elevator Upper Aft AP Cable into the elevator autopilot turnbuckle. D. (Refer to Figure 1, Detail A, View A-A, View C-C and View D-D.) Install the Right Mid Elevator Cable and Right Aft Elevator Cable. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 27, Elevator and Tab System Control Cables- Maintenance Practices.) (1) Attach the Right Mid Elevator Cable and Upper Aft AP Cable to the Right Aft Elevator Cable with one each AN23-13 Bolt, NAS1149F0332P Washer, MS Nut and MS Cotter Pin. (2) Attach the Left Aft Elevator Cable to the elevator sector assembly with the kept MS , AN960-8L Washer, NAS1149FN816P Washer and one MS21042L08 Nut. 5 E. Rig the elevator control cables. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 27, Elevator and Tab System Control Cables - Adjustment/Test.) (1) Install two new MS Clips in the Right Forward Elevator Cable and Right Mid Elevator Cable turnbuckle. (2) Install two new MS Clips in the Upper Elevator AP Cable and Elevator Upper Aft AP Cable Turnbuckle. F. Do an elevator and elevator trim tab travel check. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Elevator and Tab System Control Cables - Adjustment/Test.) (1) Adjust the turnbuckles to obtain the correct elevator trim tab travel. G. Do the pitch axis operational check. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 22, Garmin GFC700 Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) - Adjustment/Test.) 6. Install access panels 340BR and 340BL. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 6, Access Plates and Panels Identification - Description and Operation.) 7. Install access panels 340EL and 340DR. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual), Chapter 6, Access Plates and Panels Identification - Description and Operation.) 8. Install the tailcone stinger. (Refer to the Model 525 (0685 and 0800 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 53, Tailcone Stinger - Removal/Installation.) 9. Remove the maintenance warning tags and connect the airplane batteries. 10. Record that this service bulletin has been completed. A. Complete a Maintenance Transaction Report. B. Put a copy of the completed Maintenance Transaction Report in the airplane logbook. C.
