1 Single Engine Service Bulletin February 26, 2007 TITLE WING STRUT TO FUSELAGE CUFF MODIFICATION EFFECTIVITY Model Serial Numbers 206H thru T206H T thru T REASON It has been determined that the top two nutplates and screws of the wing struts lower cuffs could potentially make contact with the struts. Non-compliance with this Service Bulletin could allow unmodified lower strut cuffs attaching hardware to make contact with and possibly damage the struts. DESCRIPTION This Service Bulletin provides parts and instructions to remove the top two nutplates and screws from the lower strut cuffs and replace them with barrels and screws that are designed to assist in preventing contact with the struts. Additionally, instructions are provided to do a visual inspection of the wing struts for damage, and make repairs to them as necessary. COMPLIANCE Mandatory: shall be accomplished at the next scheduled 100 hour or annual/12 month type inspection, not to exceed 12 months, whichever occurs first. APPROVAL FAA approval has been obtained on technical data in this publication that affects airplane type design. MANPOWER 0.8 man-hour for inspection of the wing struts and modification of the lower strut cuffs If necessary, 0.1 man-hour per strut to apply Alodine to the areas of the wing strut that show signs of damage but do not require repair. To bond the barrel to the strut cuff. 1. (Refer to Figure 1, View A-A.) Remove the screws that attach the Cuff Assembly - Strut-to-Fuselage to the airplane, and remove the screws on the Retainer Assembly. Keep the screws. 2. Remove the Cuff Assembly - Strut-to-Fuselage from the strut. NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the Cuff from the airplane to do the inspection and the removal of the nutplates. CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NO DAMAGE TO THE CUFF ASSEMBLY WHEN YOU DO THE MODIFICATION AND THE INSPECTION OF THE LOWER STRUT-TO-FUSELAGE CUFF. 3. Do a visual inspection of the wing strut for damage caused by the screws in accordance with the Structural Repair Manual, Chapter 57, Wing Damage Classification. A. If there are no signs of contact, go to Step 5. No repair is necessary on this side. B. If there is damage caused by screw contact that is no deeper than the thickness (0.040 inch) of the Doubler (the damage does not go through the doubler to the strut tube), apply Alodine to the area of the damage and go to Step 5. No repair is necessary on this side. February 26, 2007 Page 3

If there is damage caused by the screws that is deeper than the thickness of the Doubler and it goes through the doubler to the strut tube, you must measure the distance of the damage from the nearest rivet or bolt. (1) If the damage is more than 0.47 inch from a bolt or a screw and more than inch from a rivet, apply Alodine to the area of the damage and go to Step 5. No repair is necessary on this side. (2) If the damage is nearer than 0.47 inch to a bolt or a screw or nearer than inch to a rivet, youmustgotostep4andrepairthedamage. 4. Repair the damage to the strut in accordance with the Structural Repair Manual, Chapter 57, Wing Lift Strut, as follows: A. Taper the damage gradually out to the surface of the strut. B. Burnish the area toasmoothfinish. C. Do a check of the area with dye penetrant to make sure that there are no cracks. D. Apply Alodine to the area, and prime and paint as necessary. E. Go to Step Do Steps 3 and 4 on the opposite side. 6. Doamodification to the Retainer Assembly - Cuff Assembly of the Cuff Assembly - Strut-to-Fuselage. A. (Refer to Figure 1, View A-A.) Remove the top two nutplates from the Retainer Assembly - Cuff Assembly. B. Ream the two holes in the Retainer Assembly - Cuff Assembly to inch diameter. Deburr and apply Alodine to the two holes. C. (Refer to Figure 1, View B-B.) Bond the two Z4302X Barrels to the Doubler with EA9309.3NA Adhesive. Cure the adhesive in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions found on the package. (Refer to the Maintenance Manual, Chapter 20, Solvents, Sealants, and Adhesives - Description and Operation.) D. Put the Cuff Assembly - Strut-to-Fuselage in position on the strut. E. (Refer to Figure 1, View A-A.) Install the kept screws and two MS Screws through the Cuff Assembly - Strut-to-Fuselage and the Retainer Assembly - Cuff Assembly. F. Install the screws that attach the Cuff Assembly - Strut-to-Fuselage, to the fuselage. 7. If you see minor surface damage caused by the two bottom screws, or if you want all four of the screws on the Cuff Assembly to have the same installation, apply Alodine to all surface damage and do Step 6 for these screws on both sides. 8.
