2 Training Description: This course, developed out of best practice recommendations and extensive industry experience, provides you with fundamental knowledge required to read and interpret the P&ID s. The course focuses on engineering drawings typically used in the petrochemical and process industries by engineers and technologists in the design phase, and by operations and maintenance staff once facilities are up and running. It is suitable for anyone interested in how drawings should be interpreted, created, maintained, and used in assessing emergency situations and regulatory compliance issues. The course focuses on practical application of print interpretation. It will give the participant a better understanding of the view representation, dimensions, tolerances, and symbols used on prints. Newly acquired learning is reinforced throughout the class with numerous practice problems. 3 DAY TWO: Piping and Instruments Drawings (P&IDs) Process flow diagram, development of piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID), and piping and instrumentation functions Pipe Sizing o Pressure drop calculations, friction loss, water, viscosity, air, gases, and laminar flow Piping Components o Isometric and orthographic drawings, specifications and bills of material for piping drawings, valve and piping fitting function, and process and utility piping Instrumentation o Instrumentation specifications; Pressure, level, temperature and flow, and process control Pipe Supports and Hangers o Selection and location, anchors, guides, and restraints Steam and Condensate Piping o Steam traps, condensate collection systems, and drip legs Pump Piping o Forces and moments on pump nozzles, American Petroleum Standard (API) 610, commissioning, and preventative maintenance Plot Plans and Equipment Layout o Interpreting plot plans and equipment layouts= Piping Stress Analysis Overview o Preliminary stress analysis Applicable codes and standards, methodology, static analysis, and using stress analysis programs DAY THREE: Electrical Diagrams and Schematics Electronic Diagrams and Schematics Components on electrical and electronic diagrams Cables and conduits on electrical and electronic diagrams Wiring conventions and terminal conventions.
