2 PRECISION SHOOTING- AUGUST BY JAMES MOCK When George Sr. welcomed everyone with his familiar "Welcome to sunny Ohier," he meant it this time. There was NO rain during the entire week and temperatures were very warm. Ian was in his sophomore season as range officer and did a superb job in keeping the 300+ competitors in line. The target crew was efficient as usual and George Sr. scored the tremendous number of targets with great accuracy. The kitchen crew kept all of the competitors fed and maintained their pleasant persona throughout the week. We shooters are indebted to the family for providing such a wonderful place. This year marked the participation of many foreign shooters... as a matter of fact a foreign shooter, George Carter, walked away with the 2-gun trophy. (Photo #1 shows George with the Truman (Ed) Watson Memorial trophy.) George Carter is not the only great shooter in his family. His wife Vera is an accomplished shooter in her own right and proved it during this match. She helped the pair to win the coveted husband/wife championship as well as a fine 16th place finish in the 13.5# Grand. The.2463 in this category earned her the Bill Gammon award. (Photo # 2 -Vera receives the Gammon award from Joe Krupa.) Another of the great foreign shooters was a little lady from Germany, Natalya Ledig. A fine gun agg topped Faye Boyer's.2774 for the top spot among the ladies. (Photo #3- Natalya with Joe Krupa and her Continued on next page #1 George Carter receives Ed Watson Memorial trophy from Joe Krupa. #2 Vera Carter receives the Gammon award for top woman shooter in HV class.
3 12 PRECISION SHOOTING- AUGUST 2010 Super Shoot XXXVIII - Better Than Ever Continued husband Peter Guffanti.) There were 58 competitors from foreign countries. Included in this number was Flavia Fare who shot a rifle featuring an action that he created. Although he spoke no English and I no Italian, I was impressed with the fit and finish of this rifle. (Photo #4 -Flavia and his rifle.) Before I list the top 20 in each category (See page 13), let me take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Ed Watson. She faithfully attends the ceremony that awards the trophy named after her late husband, Ed. (Photo #5 -Mrs. Ed Watson.) As one can see Lowell Hottenstein has been a very busy bullet maker. Bart Sauter was second in the bullet making department. Scoville and Scarbrough stocks seem to be the "in" item this year, and Leupold still dominates the scope market. However, the March is coming on strong. VitaVuori N133 powder is the favorite with 8208 and "T" favored by those who still have a supply. triggers are favored, but several of the top competitors opt for the new unit. SUMMARY Although my shooting was disappointing, I always enjoy the Super Shoot. To be able to see old friends and make new ones is always a pleasure. #3 Natalya Ledig lead the way among the ladies in the 2-gun. Continued on page 15 #4 Flavio Fare showing a BR featuring his action. #5 Mrs. Ed Watson

6 PRECISION SHOOTING- AUGUST Super Shoot XXXVIII - Better Than Ever Continued from page 12 It is also a time that we reflect when we consider those that have died during the past year. Some that come to mind this year are as follows: Lee Six, Dave Dohrman, Briar Hail, and a great rimfire gunsmith Bill Meyers. There are many who make great sacrifices to come to this shoot. It was good to see the Aussies come such a long way. As many of you know their 4-man team won the World Championship in South Africa last year. Three of the four were at the SS this year. Craig Whittleton, Paul Sullivan, and Stuart Elliot were here. Only Brendan Atchinson was missing. Another Aussie whose name was called quite a lot was Davis Kerr. He finished in 1oth place in the two gun. Also, congratulations go to Gene Bukys, Bart Sauter, Steve Theye, and Bob Scarbrough, Jr. for battling for the lead all week. If any one of them could call back a shot or two, they would have been the champion. Also, let me congratulate Tony Boyer for winning Precision Shooting's Benchrest Shooter of the Year (for the umpteenth time... actually I believe that it is the 12th time). (Photo #6 shows another great shooter, Allie Euber, presenting the trophy to Mr. Boyer.) Jack Neary was inducted into the Benchrest Hall of Fame and is reported to have slept in his HOP coat in 90 degree temperatures. (Photo #7 shows Jack with his new coat and his plaque.)
