A new item this year that Les now offers is a neck sizing/decapping die for the Lyman tong tool. And at no extra charge, we'll give you a bit of background on the development of this set-up. Back in the early 1970s, Carl Lynn, second of our ISS presidents, designed a tool for necking and depriming when installed in the Lyman 310 tong tool, which has been around a long time. I'll date myself and tell you that my first tong tool cost me $8.00! (Editor: hint, hint: second year of the presidency of U.S. Grant). Paul Kempfer, a very slick gunsmith from the South Creek, Pa. vicinity, took the drawing and made Carl's first die. It has seen some use over the years, and seems to be becoming more and more popular in recent years. I have been using two tong tools made by Seely Masker for the last couple of years, and I know that Seely has been making them for many years (Editor: hint, hint: same year as the Rough Riders charge up San Juan Hill). Lester Bruno offers these dies now. The accompanying photo ( #2) shows the tool ready to go, for the PPC case. It uses the Photo #3 t Wilson sizing buttons, which Les can supply in any Wilson listed size. The die has a threaded body, which is chambered to accept the PPC case on one end, and the other is machined to hold the Wilson sizing button. These buttons are marked on one end for that particular size, and when reversed will size about.001 ", larger... two buttons in one. The button is held in place by a threaded cap, the cap holding the decapping pin in place with its lock nut. The decapping pins are the same as used in Lyman dies. When adjusting the decapping rod, set it so that it sticks out of the die only enough to decap the case, or you will break the decapping pin. As with any die, it's a good idea to have a few spare decapping pins handy.
