3 How to find the Mean! The mean is all the numbers in the sequence added together and then divided by the amount of numbers in the sequence(n). Mean Let's Try! If you have 1,2,3,3,4,5 you would: 1. add the numbers together 2. divide by n Practice Makes Perfect! 4, 6, 9, 9, 13 5, 8, 10, 12, 12, 18, 26 Real Life Example: If Tony wanted to find the average (mean) of all his quiz scores, what would it be? 4 median The middle number in the series 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 8 You can find the median by starting from the outside and marking out a number from each side until you can find the one in the middle. median When there are many values 1, 2, 3, (8 values)..., 4, 5, (10 values)..., 8 the position of the median: divide n by 2 If n is even, use n/2 and the next value: take the average of the 2 n = 24 24/2 = 12 Find the 12th and 13th value and divide by 2 (4 + 5)/2 = 4.5 4
