1 Observatory (Meta) Congratulations on making it this far! As promised, now that you are equipped for your travel to the Tower (an abandoned observatory), here is your trusty double-sided map. Sorry I didn t tell you earlier that it s old and has fallen apart (into neat quadrangles), but I figured you d have enough to think about until now. At least the legend has survived in one piece. That s something, right? The helpful folks you have so far met on your journey have presented you with all of the provisions you will need to complete your quest. Keep in mind that you need not use an entire provision all at once, but as you progress from Here to the Tower you should finish with one provision before moving on to another. After you arrive at the Tower, and successfully make your way to your Princess imprisoned at the top, you should know the appropriate punishment to foist upon her captor, which you should tell to the local authorities immediately to end your adventure and live happily ever after. Good Luck! Your Fairy Godmother
2 MAP LEGEND i F l d t c B v V b H + a J # Z n D A dispute between neighboring warlocks has arisen. To continue, you must first erect a barrier between them. A humanoid with a tuxedo and rose blocks your way. To continue, you must first perform a ballroom dance. A packrat guards the door. To continue, you must bribe him with a knickknack. A savage beast blocks your way. To continue, charm him with a rhythmic beat. A tough-guy specter that looks like a cross between John Wayne and Jeff Bridges stands menacingly before you. For you to pass, though, he only demands some abrasive material. A troll is demanding a toll. To continue, you need a precious metal. A vegetarian orc blocks your way. To continue, you need a vegetable often found in salads. A warrior pixie has lost her armor and is making things difficult. She will let you pass if you give her a shelled animal. By now you are getting hungry. To continue, you need a fruit that grows on trees. By now you are getting thirsty. To continue, you need something that water flows from. Now would be a good time to sleep. Before continuing, you must first rest on an appropriate item. The way is cold here. To continue, don a piece of cold-weather clothing. The way is dark here. To continue, you need a portable source of light. The way is warm here. To continue, don a piece of warm-weather clothing. There appears to be a lot of crime in this animated area. To continue, you need a standard article worn by comic-book crimefighters. There may be vampires here. To continue, you need something known to help when confronting a vampire. You wouldn t want to continue in this scary place with all your senses about you. To continue, you need an alcoholic drink. Your compass has faded and become difficult to read. To continue, you need a common garden flower that might help. Your footwear is wearing thin. To continue, you need something to wear on your foot. You re lost. To continue, you need a map or diagram or something like that. Meta DASH 3
3 (Instructions for Meta pieces -- no puzzle clues on this page.) The pieces on the following 4 pages were prepared and pre-cut for solvers in advance on light card stock, which works a bit better than plain paper (but plain paper is OK). To reproduce them, please print the first two pages on 2 sides of the same sheet, so that the squares/rectangles coincide on opposite sides of the page. Then, do the same with the third and fourth pages. Then, cut out the pieces. This should result in 10 squares and 1 double-sized rectangle, each with brown-and-blue borders on one side and black-squares-with-red-and-blue-characters on the other. (Printing should overlap fully -- there should not be any significant white space on the edges of any of the pieces, though a sliver here and there from imperfect printer alignment will not adversely affect solving.) These 11 pieces, plus the first 2 pages of this printout, are the materials for the Meta, which were given to solvers at the final location, after they had completed the 10 earlier puzzles.
