1 January 2018 Missionary Childhood presents Saint of the Month: Heaven s Heroes Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton s Trail Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton January 4 Materials Needed: Map of the Mid-Atlantic States (.jpg attached for projection on smart board where possible) Four or five boxes to serve as covered wagons. Students may decorate their boxes to resemble covered wagons if time allows. Paperboard, glue, and paper fastening pin for spinner (.pdf with wagon wheel spinner attached) To make spinner for game, cut out and glue to paperboard. Punch hole in the middle and insert a double-pronged paper fastener through the hole. Spread fasters behind paperboard to secure the spinner. Questions and move forward/fall back cards (attached) Prepare room to play: Clear desks to edge of room so that each wagon has a straight trail to travel along, from front to back or side to side of the classroom. Masking tape to mark floor. Your classroom or hallway space can dictate how many lines to mark for spaces for the wagon to advance as questions are asked. You determine the beginning and end spots of the game as space allows. If space does not allow for the game to be played across the classroom, children can use a commercially made game board and its pieces to stand in for the covered wagons to advance around the board. Game instructions: Split students into groups with even numbers of members One team is randomly selected to go first. Each group starts out in New York as Mother Seton and her group did. A member of the team must spin the wheel to advance forward. If the spinner lands on a spot with an icon, they are asked a question. If it lands on a spot with wording, they must follow the instructions.

2 Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton The team is asked a question about Mother Seton from the story. If they answer the question correctly, they move forward a space. If they do not answer the question right, they must move back one space (or not advance if they are at the start). Also, any of the other teams may answer the question for the chance to move forward one space; call on the first team to raise their hands after the wrong answer is declared. There are a few special cards, print out two sets to mix among the trivia questions. These will change the advancement of the teams! The first team to reach Maryland (the last stop on Mother Seton s Trail) wins the game and will receive World Mission Rosaries.
