It seemed to answer a real need. Today, Agilis feeders for 8 mm tapes are being used by thousands of operators around the world. Now we're introducing Agilis feeders for 12 and 16 mm tapes. By covering the most common tape widths, you can load up to 90 percent of your components on Agilis fast-loading feeders. Forget Components Per Hour, begin thinking Changeovers Per Day. Reduce set-up time by over 50% To see how much time you can save, take a look at total loading time in a flexible production line. With standard feeders, shown in Diagram A, you're spending most of your time loading 8, 12 and 16 mm tapes. But because you can now load a majority of your components with Agilis, you can make some real time savings. As you can see in Diagram B, you can cut total set-up time by over 50 percent by using the three different sized Agilis feeders. How the seconds add up So how much time can you actually save? This of course depends on what kind of equipment you have and the type of jobs you run. Let's say that on an "average" production line, operators are loading or reloading about 200 feeders per day, with 8, 12 and 16 mm tapes. If a standard feeder takes one minute to load (including taking care of the cover tape and take-up reel) you can save close to three operator-hours every day with Agilis. Each Agilis feeder is equipped with a barcode and memory chip with its own unique feeder ID. So, once you've paired up a tape reel to a feeder by scanning the barcodes, you can insert the feeder in any position, in any Agilis magazine, on any MYDATA machine. With the help of the machine software, TPSys, the presence, absence and location of components is then automatically detected. The end result is that you can keep preloaded feeders on the shelf and easily replenish feeders while the machine is mounting. 4

So, no matter where the magazine is placed in the machine, each component and pick position is automatically located. Fine-tuning, in both the x and y directions, is also possible with the help of a joystick, and you can see the result in real time on the monitor. New feeding mechanism high-speed and high-precision For handling 0201s and even smaller components, the magazine has a new linear motion mechanism. Instead of using a feeder wheel to pull the tape, the new magazine features a solenoid tape-grabbing mechanism. Thanks to the linear movement, you get smoother, faster and more controlled acceleration and deceleration. In fact, the mechanism is so fast that the clock cycle of each feeding step is just 90 milliseconds. With such rapid cycle times, one single Agilis feeder can feed the HYDRA multiple head without limiting the mount speed. This minimizes the need for multiple reels of identical components. Picking even the smallest components at high speed and with excellent precision, the new magazine meets the most demanding production requirements. Ensure pick reliability over time The machine system software, TPSys, takes care of the pick position data for you. To ensure high accuracy, the pick positions are individually stored for each component. The machine controls how much the tape is advanced, taking factors such as tape stretch and friction into account. This ensures high pick reliability over time. Decentralized intelligence The new Agilis magazines are controlled by a Magazine Control Unit (MCU) which communicates through a decentralized magazine bus system (CAN). Keep an eye on the process LEDs on the front of the magazine make it easy for operators to monitor the status of each feeder and reel. The light is green when a feeder is loaded and ready to go. When it flashes yellow, you know that the tape reel is nearly empty. And solid yellow tells you that it's now empty. This gives the operator time to prepare for the next feeder change without disrupting production. 6

When not in use, the feeders can be conveniently stored in the bin together with the reels. The Agilis LM8 magazine takes up to 16 feeders for 8 mm tapes. Any 8 mm Agilis feeder previously purchased can of course be used in the new magazine. The LM8 magazine accommodates two bins, which come with the magazine. As with all our products, Agilis is compatible with older MYDATA equipment. Installed machines are easy to upgrade with the latest TPSys software and Magazine Control Units.
