Essemtec offers the widest range of feeders for all current and future applications, based on the proven intelligent feeder bus systems to secure a hot-swap feeder changeover, as well as integrated quality control. 3 SWISS MADE Highly flexible SMT production Highest throughput is not achieved by high placement rates, but by intelligent feeder concepts for the fastest possible set up and change over with zero downtime on your SMT machines. Essemtec s pick-and-place systems are designed for up to 360 feeders, reducing changeover times drastically. Even complex boards can be assembled on a single machine allowing fast changeovers and higher throughputs. For 15 years Essemtec has delivered intelligent feeders for all levels of pick-and-place systems. Feeders are automatically recognized at any location and set-up errors are eliminated by bar-code based feeder set up procedures. Most of Essemtec s machines feature full safety feeder changes while the machine is running full speed, achieving highest possible throughput rates. 3

Essemtec s machines Cobra and Paraquda, are working with a new generation of high-precision, high-speed tape feeders. An advanced closed-loop servomotor driven system, combined with a separate fully controlled cover tape pull back driven»swiss Made precision machinery, high flexibility, highest quality. system guarantees fast and reliable pick ups from any kind of tape. Aditionally, all tape feeders have an integrated LED indication, making set up and refilling fast and safe. Compact format The Paraquda placer for example offers a capacity of up to 240 feeder lanes. Essemtec s hyq-feeder simplify and hasten setup of component reels to SMT pick-and-place machines. Regarding speed, accuracy and reliability, these feeders rank in the world s top class they provide up to 25 percent more placement rate on pick-and-place machines. For 8mm tapes a double feeder concept allows feeder capacity to be enhanced. The same feeder can be used for any kind of components down to 01005, eliminating the need to have different 8mm tape feeders for a variety of components. Tapes of 12mm and bigger can be loaded in single feeders. Either dedicated or width-adjustable allowing greater flexibility for your production. The advances of hyq feeders are programming within the software, eliminating the need to adjust the feeder itself. Loading of feeders is done in seconds with an automated loading procedure either on the machine or offline. Expensive feeder lanes are no longer needed and feeder investments can be reduced. 4

5 FEEDING SOLUTIONS Multitude of feeders for all different tape sizes Quick nozzle changes are achieved with an integrated, fully automatic nozzle change system that can change up to four nozzles simultaneously. Standard nozzles are available for all common SMT components, but also for LED s, bare dies, switches and a multitude of special parts. Essemtec offers special nozzles for customized applications with short lead times. Set up feeders directly on the machine The Paraquda placement system is equipped with an optical fly by alignment system. A superior placement quality is achieved through the measurement of pins for parallelism and tolerances at the same time as the orientation of the components. All parts are recognized with a programmable camera system with adaptive lighting. Teaching of new or unknown SMT parts is easily achieved with a self learning software function. 5

6 SETUP Intelligent component feeders Essemtec s Paraquda production system is equipped with a fast bus system that recognizes feeders automatically when loaded. New feeders are immediately included into the speed optimization algorithms and can be inserted or removed without stopping the machine (hot swap). Multicoloured LEDs indicate the status of each feeder directly on the machine.»offline kitting, changeovers without interruptions, re-kitting during production, quality controlled kitting and feeders for all kinds of components, reels and sticks. CLM tape feeders The compact cassette design offers the slimmest available feeders on the market to provide a maximum of feeders on a machine. Up to 10 feeder lanes in a cassette provide an easy and lightweight handling. Tape sizes from 8 to 32mm can be handled with a fully programmable tape advance. The feeders are directly recognized via the intelligent feeder bus system. In combination with unique feeder slots, changeovers can be done in full safety directly on the machine. Tape strip feeders Assembling small batches or prototypes requires feeding systems for tape strips that cannot be handled by standard feeders. Essemtec s Tape Strip Feeders guarantee a secure fixture with a full support of the complete tape strip to avoid components jumping out of pockets. A flexible support system works with any width and length of tape strips. CSM deep pocket feeders Essemtec placement machines allow high components to be handled on all machines. Special feeders are needed as such components are in tape pockets that are out of the standard IPC specifications. A full range of such deep pocket feeders are available from 12 to 56mm in the same standardfunctionality as other single lane feeders. CSM single feeders (for Pantera X-plus) Enhance system flexibility with single lane feeders, which are available from 8 to 56mm. A servo drive with a closed-loop positioning system, linked to the intelligent feeder bus ensures set up safety and long-term positioning precision. 6

7 FEEDING SOLUTIONS 8 mm hyq reel feeders Each feeder can accept various sized components starting from The electronic feeder drive is software controlled and can be adjusted to 2 and 4 mm steps. Feed speed, tape pull back, and tape acceleration are programmable for each specific component and hence even difficult components are ideally presented. >12 mm hyq reel feeders 12 and 16 mm feeders are available in fixed width or with variable width and have the same functionality as the 8 mm feeders. Feeders that are wider than 16 mm are adjustable to two widths availing even more flexibility. Hence the investment in feeders can be significantly reduced without impacting the capability to assemble a wide range of components. Tray holder and automatic changer Trays can be positioned freely within the placement area, behind the transport belts or instead of feeders at the side of the machine. A fully automatic tray changer is also available that handles up to 20 JEDEC trays. Stick feeder A universal stick feeder accepts various widths and types of sticks. A large number of different components can be mounted thanks to an adjustable vibration frequency as well as an individually settable feeding time. Tape cut-off feeder Tape cut-offs are common in prototyping and NPI production. Essemtec s unique cut-off feeder accommodates all types of tapes and widths and can be kitted directly on the machine. The cut-off feeders can be placed anywhere on the machine instead of the normal feeders. Special component feeders * A wide range of special feeders are available for the Paraquda, such as feeders for tall components, for through hole components such as LED s, or bar code stickers for traceability. 9 MOST FLEXIBLE Reliability and compatibility, combined with outstanding customer service Feeders can be mounted on all four sides of the machines. With the high number of feeders it is possible to leave common components permanently on the machine. Alternatively, it is conceivable to prepare the following job on the machine while production is running. This hot swap concept guarantees uninterrupted changeovers without expensive feeder carts and with much lower component inventory levels. Platform Compatible Feeding systems that are used on entry level or midsize SMT systems can also be used on larger Essemtec systems, giving customers full investment protection if they want to expand to higher levels of machines. Feeder rental To overcome production peaks, Essemtec provides feeder rental programs in certain areas for cost-effective production. Feeder support Over ¼ million Essemtec feeders are in use daily worldwide and require a minimum of maintenance. However, if needed, local support stations provide services like exchange programs, feeder repair and refurbish or training on feeder maintenance.
