By leveraging the proven technologies, innovations and markets developed by DuPont, clients have been able to achieve higher profitability in a short time and with substantially lower risk. A variety of licenses are offered by DuPont, including manufacturing processes, product formulations, standard practices and trademarks. One such technology available for license is the production of Specialty Spun Yarns by a unique manufacturing process under the trade name Uniplex. What Is Uniplex Spun Yarn Technology? Developed by DuPont, Uniplex technology is a single-step process to convert filament yarns into spun yarns. Based on a unique stretch-breaking process, this technology has been demonstrated on a wide variety of synthetic fibers. Customized Spun Yarn Uses a single- or multiple-fiber type or color as feed yarns Utilizes difficult-to-process fibers, such as microdeniers Creates multiple products on the same machine Makes fine yarns from coarse feed yarns Includes continuous filament core, such as elastane, wire or other filaments

4 Advanced Technology Equipment The process for manufacturing Uniplex spun yarn requires special production equipment designed to impart specific attributes to the process and the yarn, including: High productivity Optimum product quality Flexibility This equipment is modular, where each module consists of 3 positions with a maximum of 48 positions (16 modules) per machine. Since each spinning position drive is individually controlled, multiple products can be manufactured simultaneously. To bring the technology to market, DuPont has partnered with the Swiss firm Schärer Schweiter Mettler AG (SSM) to be the authorized supplier of Uniplex production equipment. SSM is a leading international manufacturer of machinery for advanced yarn technology processes with over 80 offices worldwide for support and service. To further enhance the ability to create specialty yarns, and to simplify product management of the process, DuPont has developed an array of equipment control software packages. The recipedriven control screens simplify the machine interface for each product that is developed. Each licensee s specific product software package will be installed on the equipment prior to delivery. Additional product recipes can be installed as market demand changes. Uniplex Technology demonstrations can be arranged at DuPont in the USA or at SSM-Stähle in Europe.
