2 Role and contribution to MEDNETA Program IVC+r was created as a public entity of private rights to save the Cultural Heritage of the Valencian Communitat in IVC+r as an interdisciplinary institution, spreads its subjects in large fields: Conservation and restoration, applied research, consultancy in preventive conservation, specialized formation and diffusion. Today, IVC+r is integrated in a unique organization: Culturarts. IVC+r is the Coordinator of WP5, sharing responsibility with NTUA and participates also in all the WPs projects. IVC+r will share the responsibility with NTUA of supervising the urban intervention that will take place in each city, by providing specialized expertise on the planning, design and execution of the pilot conservation and rehabilitation of the historic buildings.

4 Brief reference: Valencia, Velluters and building Colegio Arte Mayor de la Seda Valencia is the 3 rd city in Spain, and head of the Valencia Community, one of the autonomic regions of Spain. The metropolitan area of Valencia has now reached 1,5 million. The municipality has nearly inhabitants. The historical center of Valencia is one of the largest in Spain, divided in five neighborhoods, one of them called Velluters, which takes its name from velluts (velvet), with the installation of the artisans of velvet and silk. The district was consolidated as a sort of little village of industrialists and traders that making compatible the workshops and the living spaces. In order to improve regeneration of this area, we have chosen the building The School of the Greater Art of the Silk created in 1474 for the Guild of the Velluters or Sederos. Of the Gothic original building remain some rests, having gone through diverse transformations of adaptation to the needs of the moment, but preserve interesting remains. The market silk was located in La Lonja de la Seda, an exceptional example of a secular building in late Gothic style, which dramatically illustrates the power and wealth of one of the great Mediterranean mercantile cities.

6 Description of the local ACDs The craft activities in Spain are considered integral parts of collective identity, and contributes to set population in historic neighborhoods, drives wealth-generating activities and employment, such as tourism and cultural activities, and makes a work of preservation of ethnological and cultural heritage. The craft represent the 0,4% of the GDP (gross domestic product) in Spain. The main law for the regulation of craftsmanship was published in 1982 by Royal Decree 1520/1982. In Valencian Community, was Publisher the Law 1/1984, for the regulation of craftsmanship. According this law, craft is the activity of creating, producing, processing or repairing goods, performed by a human process wich result is the individual final product not susceptible to fully mechanized or industrial production in large series. Valencia is popular for crafts, including artisans of silk, leatherworkers, carpenters, fan makers, fallas artists, pyrotechnics, jewellers, embroiderers, ceramists, goldsmiths, bookbinders, wood carvers, gilders, musical instruments makers, etc. In general, the crafts are very small companies, less than 10 people.

7 Stakeholders network and Milestones of the time schedule The artisans are associated in an entity called Arts and Crafts Centre of The Valencian Community, whose main aim is to spread and foster the craftsmanship as well as to promote its business consolidation and competitiveness through the development of promotional policies. The Crafts Qualification Document (D.C.A.) is a non-compulsory credential certifying that its owners are recognized as craftsmen and women by the Local Administration. Some of the ACDs groups that can be involved in Medneta Program are: Colegio Arte Mayor de la Seda, Historical Centre s Merchants Association, Craftmen Association of Fanmakers, Craftmen Association of Tailors, Association of Wax Chandler, Valencian Association of Ceramicts, Spanish Association of Wicker makers, Musical Instruments makers Association, Valencian Craftmen Association of Artistas Falleros, Pyrotechnic Artists Association, etc. The milestones of the time schedule are: Valencia workshop Silk exhibition at Colegio Arte Mayor de la Seda Steering Committee in Valencia
