1 CLOTHING & DESIGN Stevenson High School Course Goal: Through lab experience students will learn various construc4on techniques used in sewing garments. Students who have sewing experience will have the opportunity to expand and improve their clothing construc4on skills. Focus is put on how STEM relates to the construc4on of clothing. What is STEM? Science is the general understanding of where things come from; understanding where your fabric comes from, how it is made, and how it can best be used. Sewing and embroidery machines are state-of-the-art pieces of Technology that you will use everyday. Taking a piece of flat fabric and turning it into an 3-dimen4onal garment is a fundamental lesson in Engineering. Almost every aspect of sewing involves Math frac4ons, measuring, es4ma4ng and geometry in pauerns are all integral parts of the sewing process. Content Objectives: Iden4fy and define uses of sewing equipment & no4ons. Develop your skills in machine sewing on sample projects. Construct garments and other sewing projects. Choose projects that are compliant with your ability level and con4nue to challenge yourself with more difficult projects. Demonstrate academic responsibility. Par4cipate fully in the course.
