1 Dear competitors, we are pleased to present you the categories for the Cake & Bake Germany in Essen. Please read all pages of this file as well as all other supplementary information to the competition. The individual categories will be bookable up to the registration deadline! We look forward to seeing you at the Cake&Bake show. Yours faithfully, The Cake&Bake team and the judges from IGT e.v. Class A: Celebration Cake, "Baptism, Confirmation " theme A single tiered cake, covered with any edible medium, for one of these special occasions: Christening, Communion, Confirmation, Bar Mitzvah. Exhibits must have a inscription indicating the occasion. No non-edible decoration allowed. If floral display/s are used, these may include wires, stamens and tape (must not penetrate the cake unless suitable barrier used) To fit within a base area of maximum 40 x 40 cm square. A dummy may be used. Class B: Novelty Cake, theme "Board Games" A single tiered novelty cake, covered with any edible medium in "Board Games" theme. If floral display/s are used, these may include wires, stamens and tape (must not penetrate the cake unless suitable barrier used). No non-edible decoration allowed. To fit within a base area of maximum 40 x 40 cm square. A dummy may be used. Class C: Two tiered Novelty Cake, theme of the competitors choice. A two tiered cake, covered with any edible medium. Theme of the competitors choice. If floral display/s are used, these may include wires, stamens and tape (must not penetrate the cake unless suitable barrier used). No non-edible decoration allowed. To fit within a base area of maximum 30 x 30 cm square. A dummy may be used. Class D: Carved Novelty Cake, theme "pot, cup, or..." A carved cake covered in any suitable edible medium, in the form of a crockery part (Tea/coffee cup, tea/coffee pot, jug, or...) Over half the entry must be cake. The cake and decorations must be edible. The cake may be cut to ensure it complies with the criteria. Only edible internal supports allowed. To fit within a base area of maximum 30 x 30 cm square. Dummies not permitted.
2 Class E: Classic Wedding Cake, three or more tieres Three or more tieres covered in any edible medium. The decoration must include any characteristic wedding elements: Mr. & Mrs., "LOVE", initials, heart motifs, wedding doves, couples or other typical elements cake unless suitable barrier used). No non-edible decoration allowed. To fit within a base area of maximum 60 x 60 cm square. A dummy may be used. Class F: Tiered cake for three or more tieres, theme of the competitors choice. Three or more tieres (stacked and not carved), covered in any edible medium Any theme except Wedding, Wedding Day, Engagement, Valentine's Day. Suggestions for your theme: Art, graphic, birthday party, music, rockabilly, theater,... cake unless suitable barrier used) but no other non-edible decoration may be used on the cake. To fit within a base area of maximum 60 x 60 cm square. Dummies may be used. Class G: Floral sugarcraft - "Bridal Bouquet" theme A floral exhibit, "Bridal Bouquet" theme, showing three different fully open flowers. Each flower must be shown three times and should be comlpeted with matching leaves. May also include berries, buds and leaves of other plants. Wires, stamen, tape, pearls and ribbon permitted but must not dominate. Non-edible containers may be used or the bouquet can be displayed on a covered board or surface. To fit within a base area of maximum 40 x 40 cm square. Class H: Wafer Paper Flowers, theme "bouquet of roses or arrangement" A realistic bouquet or arrangement with seven or more open wafer paper roses and matching leaves. Additional flowers or buds are allowed and desired. Wires, stamen, tape and ribbon permitted but must not dominate. Non-edible containers may be used. To fit within a base area of maximum 40 x 40 cm. Class I: Sweet Table, theme of the competitors choice Prepare a display of four cupcakes, four cake pops and four cookies. You can decorate the four cup cakes in four different styles or in only one style, so you have to reproduce the decoration. The same with the Cake pops and Cookies. All pastries and decorations must be edible except the cupcake molds and cake pop sticks. Rice Krispies or Cake Pops from pure sugar paste are not allowed. Non-edible stands, tablet, cake rack, display, plate... permitted and any decoration used to enhance the display will be taken into consideration with judgment. The theme of the sweet table must be displayed on a plaque next to the exhibit. To fit within a base area of maximum 40 x 40 cm. Dummies not allowed.
3 Class J: Small Decorative Element, theme of the competitors choice Figurine/sculpture, made of any edible medium. Theme of the competitors choice. Internal supports permitted, but no visible external supports allowed. If floral display/s are used, these may include wires, stamens and tape (must not penetrate the cake unless suitable barrier used). To fit within a 30cm x 30cm x 30cm cube (hight measured from the surface of the cake board). Dummies not allowed. Class K: Large decorative element, "Musical" theme Made of any edible medium. Internal supports permitted, but no visible external supports allowed. Everything visible must be edible. If floral display/s are used, these may include wires, stamens and tape (must not penetrate the cake unless suitable barrier used). To fit within a base area of maximum 60 x 60 cm. Dummies may be used. Class L: Large carved cake, theme of the competitors choice A carved cake, covered with any edible medium. Over two third oft he the entry must be cake. One third may be modeling chocolate, rice crispies etc. Internal food save supports (no wires!) permitted, but no dummies or visible external supports allowed. No non edible decoration allowed. In order to document the cake building, four photos are required showing the use of the internal supports. The photos are to be enclosed in an envelope and placed next to the exhibit. To fit within a base area of maximum 60 x 60 cm. No dummies allowed. Class M: miniature cake, three layers, theme of the competitors choice Three-tiered miniature cake, covered with any edible medium. Theme of the competitors choice. All decorations must be edible. If floral display/s or wafer paper displays are used, these may include wires, artificial stamens and tape (must not penetrate the cake unless suitable barrier used). To fit within a base area of maximum 12 x 12 cm. Dummies allowed. Class N: Sugar Art no limits, theme of the competitors choice Any mediums (edible or non-edible) used must be those used in sugarcraft. Any internal supports permitted (including dummies). Wires, artificial decorations even electrically powered decorations are allowed. The design of the entire required base area is evaluated. The display will be judged on visual impact, innovative ideas, blending of different skills and ideas that do not fit into other classes. To fit within a base area of maximum 90 x 75 cm.this size may not be undershot nor exceeded. When planning the exhibit, be sure to take the transport into consideration!
4 Class O: Teamwork for 2-4 persons For a team of 2-4 persons (no live competition!). Style, form and theme of the competitors choice. Any mediums (edible or non-edible) used must be those used in sugarcraft. Dummies, any internal supports permitted, but no visible external supports allowed. cake unless suitable barrier used). Dummy may be used Class Q: For teenagers from years Novelty cake, theme "Popstar(s)" A single layer cake covered with fondant on the theme "Popstars". It may glitter and sparkle, but only with edible glitter (100% edible). The corresponding glitter color has to be inspected at the cake registration. All decorations must be edible. To fit within a base area of maximum 40 x 40 cm square. Dummy may be used Important information please read carefully! Exhibits should not be shown on any social media sites, prior to the Cake & Bake 2018 Cake competition. Otherwise the competitor may be disqualified. All entries must be the bonafide work of the individual who has entered. Size/hight: The predefined size of the base area must not be exceeded at any point by the exhibit or its decoration. There is no height limit for the exhibition, unless the height is explicitly defined in the category. Base/Cakeboard: Ribbons are always allowed at the edge of the base plate
5 The design of the Cakeboard is included in the valuation, so it is advisable to cover the Cakeboard with an edible medium. Edible supports: Are always allowed (spaghetti, macaroni, sugar bars, cake pop sticks), unless specifically mentioned in the category. Food Standards: Even if in some categories instead of real cakes allowed dummies, the dummies must be treated like food. Wires must never be inserted from outside directly into the cake/dummy. To protect the wires, they must be hiding in drinking straws or "posy pics". Edible mediums: Edible mediums used must be those used in sugarcraft: Sugar Paste, Modeling Paste, Modeling Chocolate, Royal Icing, etc. Non-edible masses: Cold Porcelain, "artista soft", or similar. Glitter / Glimmer: Is permitted in all categories (with the exception of the two flower categories) but only in edible form! The glitter/glimmer colors used, must be inspected at the cake registration. How do I know my glitter is edible? According to EU law, additives in food have to be declared. Therefore the E numbers, e.g. E122, are displayed on edible sugar colors, glitter, etc.. The jury will only accept colors with the a. m. E number. Always bring the original packages! Marking the theme: Is required in some categories: Mark the theme on a neutral plate and place it next to the exhibit. Transport damage: The exhibit must be carefully planned and crafted. Figures must be thoroughly dried. Incorrectly crafted exhibits that break during transport are not recognized as transport damage. The decision is made by the Head of Judges. The competition table: Exhibits may not be touched after their deployment. No changes can be made to the exhibit. Signs of the table can not be removed. and advertising cannot be placed. Changes for the purpose of taken pictures are not permitted. In the event of an infringement, the participants risk the exclusion from competition or a subsequent disqualification!
