2 Dear partner, WHAT? The first joint Handcrafts and Circular Economy hackathon for Estonia will take place in Narva! A circular economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose) in which we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life. WHERE AND WHEN? WHY? Circular hackathon is scheduled for APRIL 20-22, Vocational Education Centre, Narva branch. EVENT BEGINS AT 6 PM Loov Eesti, Ida-Viru Centre of Creative Industry and Textileinventory are organizing hackathon Circular The event brings together recycling specialists, craftsmen, designers, entrepreneurs and other active participants who wish to find new business models and approaches in joining together creative industries and circular economy. In order to promote circular economy there is a need for a more creative approach and sustainable business-models. During the hackathon, prototypes of new products will be build to validate creative circular economy business models economy, that will: help production companies be more sustainable; make it easy to take wasted materials back into production by turning them into new innovative products The developed business models will be based on the principles of circular economy. The raw material industry is undergoing major changes: European Union has set the transition towards more circular economy as it s priority. Many countries such as Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands and others have set ambitious goals to reach circularity in the production systems within the next 35 years. In Estonia the topic has started slowly emerging during the past years with the focus on textile industry. The Circular hackathon will focus on developing new innovative projects from local waste materials and on finding solutions how to improve current systems in order to make it easy for Small Manufacturing Enterprises to implement circularity into their production systems Creative Economy is very location-specific and needs for development a local peculiarities and favourable conditions. Therefore a very big responsibility lies on the shoulders of local initiatives. The more conventional industries use in the opportunities provided by creative economy the more we can talk about creative economy as a whole bundle of industries. In Estonia the creative economy is 3% from Estonian GDP (according to the data from 2011). The industry composes from more than 7000 establishments and employs over people.

3 The Russian-speaking communities in Estonia are not so active in entrepreneurship and local life, especially in North-East of Estonia - the most industrial region of the country. The Hackathon aims at supporting people s initiative and responsibility, as well as creating positive experience of their ideas realization. Our main target region is Ida-Virumaa (Estonia), because in these regions the people have more doubt whether to start their own business or project. In addition, there is a lack of know-how, cothinkers and finances, as well as unexpected risks and lack of entrepreneurship initiative tradition. But the same time there is very strong handcrafts tradition and competence. WHAT WILL HAPPEN? During the 2-day hackathon teams will go all the way from idea to prototype. With mentors help, new creative circular economy solutions and business models will be developed: 1. Fashion design the usage of quality fabric scraps in clothing industry 2. Accessories (jewelry, bags, purses etc) - making new designs for accessories from available materials 3. Craftsmanship usage of materials in making souveniers and unique gifts 4. Usage of fabrics and other materials in interiour design 5. Promotional materials reusing promotional T-shirts made for marketing purposes which lose their meaning after the events WHAT WE EXPECT FROM PARTNERS? We would like to run a high level hackathon and to acknowledge the best teams. We look for additional support for organisation of the hackathon and motivating prizes for teams. If your organization is interested and has the possibility to support Circular here are some ways how to do it: - Sponsorship for organisational part of the hackathon (up to EUR) Financial support increasing the award fund - aimed at supporting the best idea prototype or pilot project (up to EUR, development prize) A service package aimed to developing the idea, offering the teams a suitable environment, support and mentorship. Participating as mentor / jury member at the Hackathon - aimed at bringing together enterprises and platforms, as well as Baltic key players interested in development.

WE In case you re interested in supporting the hackathon as a partner, we offer the following: acknowledging and thanking the partners in interviews and articles dedicated to the event for main award sponsors: we bring out your reasons for supporting us in all Circular@Narva communication for main award sponsors: visibility in Circular preand post-event activities, incl. articles and interviews with winners of main and special prizes. your logo in all the main visuals of the event (incl. website, posters, brochures, prize labels) visibility in all Circular communication and marketing, incl. social media (FB, VKontakte) partners logo at slides, that will be run in pauses during live broadcasting positive emotions and big thanks / acknowledgement from the Circular@Narva team there is a possibility for mutual communication in terms of your organization s visibility and other options. ADDITIONAL INFO Circular will be held in English, but all information for the media will be provided in min.3 languages (English, Estonian and Russian). We expect ca 100 participants from Estonia. And as a result, we expect min.12 ideas from different teams. The participants come from different backgrounds, which means bringing together different skills, experiences and background - so we expect an exciting work process!
