2 Dril-Quip Product Education Program Dril-Quip offers a comprehensive course in the Fundamentals Dril-Quip, Inc. is one of the world s leading manufacturers of offshore drilling and completion equipment that is well-suited for use in deepwater applications. Class 2: Introduction to Offshore Drilling and Completion (1 day) The Company designs and manufactures subsea, surface and rig equipment for use by oil and gas companies in offshore areas throughout the world. DrilQuip also provides running tools, technical advisory and reconditioning services related to installation and retrieval of its core products. This class focuses on the progression of oil well drilling and production from land to offshore. The differences between land and offshore exploration and completion operations are identified. Subjects include the types of offshore drilling vessels used for exploration, a discussion on the required drilling equipment and technology associated with each step in the drilling operation. The well design and components required for constructing a well in the offshore environment are also included. Dril-Quip s applied learning courses are taught by instructors with extensive experience in offshore drilling and completion methods. Training manuals, product-specific literature, audio-visual aids, product and process models and animations are used to present each subject. The curriculum is designed to provide the participant with a learning experience that yields a more thorough understanding of how s products help the offshore oil industry find and produce petroleum. The Basic 10-CLASS PRODUCT EDUCATION COURSE Class 1: Fundamentals of Oil Well Drilling & Completion (1 day) No prerequisite This is an industry fundamentals class covering the basic concepts of exploring for oil and gas. Topics include the geology of petroleum, drilling equipment, well equipment, casing programs, drilling fluids and overall drilling rig operations. Additional topics include the basics of completing a well, including the downhole and surface equipment required to complete a well that will be producing oil and/or gas. Land Rig Prerequisite Class 1 Class 3: Introduction to Specialty Connectors (1 day) Prerequisite - Class 1 Facilitated Employee Learning of Offshore Drilling and Completion Methods equipment. A component-by-component presentation of the operational characteristics and key features of each is included. Class 6: Subsea Wellhead Systems Survey (1 day) Prerequisite Classes 1, 2, 3 and 5 This class covers basic definitions and concepts related to general category of subsea wellhead systems. The range of subsea wellhead configurations used in shallow water/shallow well through deepwater/deep-well applications is examined. A description of the features of each component will be included. Operations and installation procedures will be discussed to facilitate an understanding of the functions of the subsea wellhead system components. Basic components covered in the course are wellhead housings, casing hangers, BOP stack testing, bore protection and contingency options used during the construction of a well. systems and tree configurations such as single bore, dual bore and horizontal systems are identified and discussed. Subsea completion components such as running tools, completion riser, tree caps, flowline connection systems and control systems (integral and workover) are also covered. General subsea field development topics are also covered in this class. This class covers specialty casing connectors and other special connectors used for casing and piling and other vertical, subsea pipe applications. The application of thread-on, weld-on pipe and weight-set pipe connections for use in offshore operations is also discussed. Class 7: BigBore II Subsea Wellhead System Family Overview (2 days) Preparing to run a subsea tree Class 4: Bottom-Supported Drilling and Completion Practices (1 day) Prerequisite Classes 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 Class 9: Floating Production Platforms Overview (1 day) Prerequisite Classes 4 and 7 This class covers drilling and completion operations and associated equipment for bottom-supported jack-up and platform applications. Dril-Quip s MS-15 mudline suspension systems, CS-10 casing support systems, surface spooled wellheads, unitized wellheads and mudline Jackup Rig templates are reviewed. Additional topics of discussion include high-performance gate valves, adjustment subs, emergency back-out subs and diverter systems. This class covers deepwater subsea wellhead systems that support drilling operations from a floating drilling vessel. Topics include the unique requirements of deepwater drilling and their impact on subsea well and wellhead designs. The course will include examination of the components that make up a deepwater subsea wellhead system and discussions of the differences BigBore II Subsea Wellhead between the standard and the high-capacity 15,000 psi subsea wellhead systems. Class 5: Introduction to Offshore Capital Drilling Equipment (1 day) Class 8: Subsea Completions Systems and Subsea Field Development Overview (1 day) Prerequisite Classes 1 and 2 Prerequisite Classes 4 and 7 This class covers the rig equipment required to connect the rig to the subsea wellhead when drilling a well from a floating drilling vessel. General topics include subsea BOP stacks, marine drilling riser systems, diverter systems, motion compensation and tensioning This class covers subsea completion equipment for mudline suspended wells and subsea wellhead system applications. Downhole completion scenarios and equipment are discussed as they relate to the tubing hanger and tree designs. Various types of tubing hanger Prerequisite Classes 1, 2 and 3 This class covers completing deepwater wells to a dry tree (surface) completion from a floating production platform. The various types of floating production platforms will be examined and compared. Integration of subsea wellhead systems equipped with wet trees to floating production platforms will be discussed. Various dry tree systems will be compared to describe the unique features of each system. Class 10: Introduction to Liner Hangers (1 day) Prerequisites Classes 1 and 2 This course will cover basic definitions and concepts related to the function and operation of liner hangers as a part of down-hole well drilling and completion techniques. The operational components of a liner hanger and its associated running tools will be described. The key procedures required to successfully deploy a liner hanger will also be included in this class to help participants understand the role that each component plays in completing a well. For class registration go to the SELF REGISTRATION link on the DQ Internal Information System, or for more information contact the Dril-Quip Learning Center at ext 6063.
