2 The single most unused person in healthcare is the patient (Prof David Cutler, Harvard) In order to help drive the healthcare industry s focus on the patient, the Swiss Economic Forum launched FutureHealth, a new conference at the intersection of patient centricity, technology and health policy. As a member of the FutureHealth Advisory Board, TranScrip Senior Partner, Ed Currie, attended the inaugural conference in Basel on 26 th January 2018, as well as the Speakers Dinner. Introduced by Swiss Economic Forum CEO, Dominik Isler, and moderated by Swiss TV presenter, Bigna Silberschmidt, and W.I.R.E. think tank founder/head, Stephan Sigrist, the event brought together patients, thought leaders and change-makers around the topics Imagination Innovation Impact. Three high-performing people with different perspectives on the healthcare system introduced the day by describing their personal experiences: a leukemia survivor who likened his bone-marrow transplant and subsequent graft-versus-host-disease to prison plus torture, but who helped other patients through his blog, and subsequently built an innovative healthcare IT company; a meteorologist and weather presenter who has inspired fellow multiple sclerosis sufferers through his work with the Swiss MS Society; and a world champion figure skater whose lifestyle regime of exercise, nutrition, sleep, and social engagement keeps her body and mind healthy. 3 Roni Zeiger, former Chief Health Strategist at Google, and now CEO & Co-Founder of Smart Patients, an online community where patients and their families learn from each other, talked passionately about Democratising Healthcare through empowerment of patients. Daniel Kraft, Faculty Chair of Medicine at Singularity University, and Founder & Chair of the Exponential Medicine conference, gave a tour de force presentation of how technology is changing our healthcare system, from microbiome restitution, through electroceuticals and other innovations, to data donors. Next was the turn of the start-ups, with founders/ceos describing how they put the focus on patients: Uwe Diegel of LifeinaBox how tiny portable refrigerators will allow patients to take their temperature-sensitive medicines (insulin, antibody therapies, other biologics) discreetly with them wherever they go Marcel Gmu nder, Global Head of Roche Diabetes Care how Roche integrated Viennese diabetes tracking app company, MySugr, into their portfolio, building on their 1.4 million satisfied users without losing a single employee Robert Kaul of Cloud DX, Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE finalist how their precision vital sign monitoring equipment, software and mobile apps are driving the equation more data x better data = better lower cost Page 3 of 5

4 Khai Pham of ThinkingNode how their next-generation artificial intelligence is solving complex problems in biology and other health domains to help bring better drugs to patients faster Catherine Liao of Blumio how their non-invasive continuous blood pressure monitoring technology will improve the management of patients with or at risk of hypertension. A panel discussion then explored how different healthcare players are establishing a functioning ecosystem (Peter Wyser, Head of Digital Transformation Program, Roche Diagnostics; Reto Egloff, CEO of health insurer KPT; Bruno Guggisberg, CEO of hospital centre Spital STS AG). Different national healthcare systems were compared by Claudia Fischer (Healthcare Scientist at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna), with presentations and discussion by Marianne Olsson (Director, Mofirm, Sweden), Jeroen Struijs (Senior Researcher, National Institute of Public Health and Environment, Netherlands) and Pascal Strupler (Director, Federal Office of Public Health, Switzerland). Attendees could then choose between Deep Dive sessions on Precision Medicine, Healthcare Investment Trends, Latest Trends in Digital, and Yoga. Audience members were subsequently paired in a speed-dating exercise to generate multiple ideas on how to address difficult healthcare problems. These were judged, and the top 3 ideas presented, by a panel comprising Susanne Ruoff (CEO, Swiss Post), Willi Miesch (CEO, Medartis) and Christian Ko pe (Head of Corporate Public Affairs, Galenica). A final keynote by military historian, Lynette Nusbacher, on the themes Jazz, War and Agility challenged the audience to think differently. Around the stimulating main conference agenda, lively discussions continued in networking breaks and an exhibition of technology from the start-ups and sponsors. Page 4 of 5
