3 FOREWORD: The worldwide trend for extrating oil and gas at inreasing water depths, under higher pressures and temperatures, ontinues demanding innovative tehnologies. Subsea exploration is finding new fields at thousands of feet below the surfae reahing water depths that one time were onsidered out of limits due to high osts and existing tehnology gap. Extrating at these ultra deep waters is now more onvenient then in the past and onsequently suitable valves and atuators are demanded. Apart from high pressure (15000 psi and psi) and high temperature subsea valves there is a new hallenge faing subsea atuation. During last deades the only subsea power soure available had been the hydrauli power supply whih leaded neessarily to install sophistiated, rather than expensive, surfae hydrauli power units and subsea umbilial systems. At ultra deep water depths (15,000ft+) the use of hydrauli pressure supply is extremely expensive and, in some ases, even impratiable. Therefore a new alternative power soure for subsea atuation has now beome reality: the eletriity.
