Visit historic sites, museums, and libraries, and travel by train through the Swiss Alps. Work at professional studios including Tipoteca in Cornuda, the Basler Papiermühle and Druckwerk in Basel, the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, the Klingspoor Museum in Offenbach, and the Museum of Industry and Textiles (MIAT) in Ghent, to create handmade paper, posters, and other printed works from traditional equipment. Application deadline January 15, 2017 HNRS 2900: Therapeutic Gardens of the Pacific Northwest Amy Wagenfeld April 30 May 7, 2017 Did you know that research finds that time spent in nature is good for your mind and body? This course will explore the majestic beauty of the Pacific Northwest, tour several award winning healing gardens, learn about the value of access to well-designed therapeutic gardens and how they may positively influence human behavior, health and well-being. We will also help install a healing garden in Seattle at a VA hospital. Dr. Amy Wagenfeld, Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy, would be happy to answer questions about the course: amy.wagenfeld@wmich.edu. HNRS 2900: Learning with video games! Really?*** James Bosco May 1-5, 15-10, and 23, 2017 Travel to Santa Cruz, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Lansing and Pittsburgh with Jim Bosco, Education Professor Emeritus, to explore how video game companies considered to be the best in the U.S. are revolutionizing learning in the private sector and K-16 schools. Sue Ellen Christian May 5 12, 2017 This course uses San Francisco as a backdrop to study the theme of omission. We will examine the power of selection and what is edited out of society when immigrants assimilate into a culture, when the media targets select audiences, when economics eradicates affordable housing, as well as what is missing from ours and others personal narratives. Sue Ellen Christian, Professor of Journalism, would be happy to answer questions about the course: sueellen.christian@wmich.edu.
