5 Dan Hurst Background Realized that this is not how to live Checked self into rehab and got clean Left rehab and needed to get back to work

6 Dan Hurst Background Started Broaden Technologies Borrowed $5 from a friend and bought a broken computer Fixed that computer up and sold it for $99 Continued to buy broken computers and fix them up and that became Broaden Technologies 3 retail stores in Columbus

7 Dan Hurst Background Wanted to give back to the community Saw others who could benefit from technology Wanted to be able to help those people Started Community Computer Alliance 501c3 to use technology to give back

17 DATA DESTRUCTION The first thing people want to know is what is going to happen to their data Hard drive removed immediately and stored in locked room Hard drive is then put through a DBAN program Overwrites the hard drive with 0 s and 1 s three times

18 Electronic Recycling At CCA the computers are taken down initially into 26 different materials some of which are: Plastics Circuit Boards Ferrous Metals Non Ferrous Metals

19 Electronic Recycling These components are then sold to material recyclers who specialize in the repurposing of each specific material Smelted down Some broken down further (ex: televisions/crt monitors)

20 Electronic Recycling Most companies charge for CRT monitor recycling Amount of leaded glass vs the amount of precious materials in monitor The cost for recycling the hazardous material is greater than the benefit from the precious materials

21 Electronic Recycling CCA does not charge for CRT monitors Being a 501(c)(3) our downstream does not charge for them Passing on the savings to the community

22 Renewal of Materials Raw materials are then sent out to manufacturers to make into new items
