Keep the watch exposed to bright ight The eectricity generated by the soar ce of the watch is Bright Light stored by a buit-in battery. Leaving or using the watch where it is not exposed to ight causes the battery to run down. Make sure the watch is exposed to ight as much as possibe. Soar ce When you are not wearing the watch on your wrist, position the face so it is pointed at a source of bright ight. You shoud try to keep the watch outside of your seeve as much as possibe. Charging is reduced significanty if the face is ony partiay covered. The watch continues to operate, even when it is not exposed to ight. Leaving the watch in the dark can cause the battery to run down, which wi resut in some watch functions to be disabed. If the battery goes dead, you wi have to reconfigure watch settings after recharging. To ensure norma watch operation, be sure to keep it exposed to ight as much as possibe. About This Manua Depending on the mode of your watch, dispay text appears either as dark figures on a ight background, or ight figures on a dark background. A sampe dispays in this manua are shown using dark figures on a ight background. Button operations are indicated using the etters shown in the iustration. Most of the dispay exampes in this manua show ony the digita dispay, without the anaog hands. Each section of this manua provides you with the information you need to perform operations in each mode. Current Time Setting This watch adjusts its time setting automaticay in accordance with a time caibration signa. You can aso perform a manua procedure to set the time and date, when necessary. The first thing you shoud do after purchasing this watch is to specify your Home (the city where you normay wi use the watch). For more information, see To specify your Home. When using the watch outside the areas covered by the time signa transmitters, you wi have to adjust the current time setting manuay as required. See Timekeeping for more information about manua time settings. The U.S. time caibration signa can be picked up by the watch whie in North America. The term North America in this manua refers to the area that consists of Canada, the continenta United States, and Mexico. The anaog time of this watch is synchronized with the digita time. Because of this, the anaog time setting is automaticay adjusted whenever you change the digita setting. See Anaog Timekeeping for more information. To specify your Home code 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A the city code starts to fash. This is the setting screen. 2. Press D(east) to seect the city code you want to use as your Home. The watch wi receive the time caibration signa automaticay from the appicabe transmitter (in the midde of the night) and update its settings accordingy. For information about the reationship between city codes and transmitters, see Home Codes and Transmitters. Under factory defaut settings, auto receive is turned off for a of the foowing city codes: MOW (Moscow), HKG (Hong Kong), BJS (Beijing), HNL (Honouu), and ANC (Anchorage). For detais about turning on auto receive for these city codes, see To turn auto receive on and off. You can disabe time signa reception, if you want. See To turn auto receive on and off for more information. See the maps under Reception Ranges for information about the reception ranges of the watch. If you are in an area that does not use Dayight (summertime), turn off the DST setting. Time Caibration Signa Reception There are two different methods you can use to receive the time caibration signa: auto receive and manua receive. Auto Receive With auto receive, the watch receives the time caibration signa automaticay up to six times a day. When any auto receive is successfu, the remaining auto receive operations are not performed. For more information, see About Auto Receive. Manua Receive Manua receive ets you start a time caibration receive operation with the press of a button. For more information, see To perform manua receive. Important! When getting ready to receive the time caibration signa, position the watch as shown in the nearby iustration, with its 12 o cock side facing towards a window. Make sure there are no meta objects nearby. 12 o cock or Make sure the watch is facing the right way. 1

Time caibration signa reception takes from two to seven minutes, but in some cases it can take as ong as 14 minutes. Take care that you do not perform any button operations or move the watch during this time. The time caibration signa the watch wi attempt to pick up depends on its current Home code setting as shown beow. If you use the watch in Japan or Europe (each of which has two different transmitter ocations), it wi try to receive the time caibration signa from one of the transmitters in your current ocation. If it cannot receive the signa, it wi then try to receive the time caibration signa from the other transmitter. Radio interference may aso cause probems with reception. Signa reception is affected by weather, atmospheric conditions, and seasona changes. See the information under Signa Reception Troubeshooting if you experience probems with time caibration signa reception. About Auto Receive The watch receives the time caibration signa automaticay up to six times a day. When any auto receive is successfu, the remaining auto receive operations are not performed. The reception schedue (caibration times) depends on your currenty seected Home, and whether standard time or Dayight is seected for your Home. Reception is not performed if a caibration time is reached whie you are configuring settings. Auto receive of the caibration signa is designed to be performed eary in the morning, whie you seep (provided that the Timekeeping Mode time is set correcty). Before going to bed for the night, remove the watch from your wrist, and put it in a ocation where it can receive the signa easiy. The watch receives the caibration signa for one to five minutes everyday when the time in the Timekeeping Mode reaches each of the caibration times. Avoid performing any button operation within five minutes before or after any one of the caibration times. Doing so can interfere with correct caibration. Remember that reception of the caibration signa depends on the current time in the Timekeeping Mode. The receive operation wi be performed whenever the dispay shows any one of the caibration times, regardess of whether or not the dispayed time actuay is the correct time. Caibration signa reception is disabed whie a countdown timer operation is in progress. About the Receiving Indicator The receiving indicator shows the strength of the caibration signa being received. For best reception, be sure to keep the watch in a ocation where signa strength is strongest. Receiving indicator Weak (Leve 0) Strong (Leve 3) Use the receiving indicator as a guide for checking signa strength and for finding the best ocation for the watch during signa receive operations. Even in an area where signa strength is strong, it takes about 10 seconds for signa reception to stabiize enough for the receiving indicator to indicate signa strength. After signa reception is compete, the indicator of the transmitter from which the signa was received wi remain on, without fashing. The foowing shows the meaning of each of the transmitter indicator names. JP40: Fukushima (Japan) JP60: Fukuoka/Saga (Japan) US60: Fort Coins, Coorado (the United States) GE77.5: Mainfingen (Germany) UK60: Rugby (Engand) The transmitter indicator turns off automaticay at the start of the first auto receive operation of a new day. The time of the first auto receive operation of a new day depends on your currenty seected Home. 1. Enter the Timekeeping Mode. 2. Pace the watch on a stabe surface so its 12 o cock side is facing towards a window. 3. Hod down D for about two seconds unti the Receiving Indicator appears on the dispay. The indicator of the transmitter whose signa the watch is attempting to receive wi fash. Time caibration signa reception takes from two to 14 minutes. Take care that you do not perform any button operations or move the watch during this time. If the receive operation is successfu, the reception date and time appear on the dispay, aong with the GET indicator. The indicator of the transmitter whose signa the watch received wi aso be indicated. The watch wi enter the Timekeeping Mode if you press D or if you do not perform any button operation for about one or two minutes. If the current reception fais, the dispay shows the ERR indicator. The watch wi enter the Timekeeping Mode without changing the time setting if you press D or if you do not perform any button operation for about one or two minutes. To turn auto receive on and off 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, press D to dispay the Last Signa screen. 2. Hod down A unti the current auto receive setting (ON or OFF) start to fash. This is the setting screen. Note that the setting screen wi not appear if the currenty seected Home is one that does not support time caibration reception. 3. Press D to togge auto receive on (ON) and off (OFF). For information about city codes that support signa receive, see To specify your Home. To check the atest signa reception resuts In the Timekeeping Mode, press D to dispay the Last Receive date Signa screen. When receive is successfu, the dispay shows the time and date that receive was successfu. - - : - - indicates that none of the reception operations were successfu. To return to the Timekeeping Mode, press D. Receive time 2

3 Signa Reception Troubeshooting Check the foowing points whenever you experience probems with signa reception. Probem Cannot perform manua receive. Time setting is incorrect foowing signa reception. Probabe Cause The watch is not in the Timekeeping Mode. Your current Home is not one of the foowing: LIS, LON, MAD, PAR, ROM, BER, STO, ATH, MOW, HKG, BJS, TPE, SEL, TYO, HNL, ANC, YVR, LAX, YEA, DEN, MEX, YWG, CHI, MIA, YTO, NYC, YHZ, or YYT If the time is one hour off, the DST setting may be incorrect. The Home code setting is not correct for the area where you are using the watch. What you shoud do Enter the Timekeeping Mode and try again. Seect LIS, LON, MAD, PAR, ROM, BER, STO, ATH, MOW, HKG, BJS, TPE, SEL, TYO, HNL, ANC, YVR, LAX, YEA, DEN, MEX, YWG, CHI, MIA, YTO, NYC, YHZ, or YYT as your Home. Change the DST setting to Auto DST. Seect the correct Home code. For further information, see Important! under Time Caibration Signa Reception and Radio-controed Atomic Timekeeping Precautions. Word Time code Current time in seected city The Word Time Mode digitay dispays the current time in 48 cities (29 time zones) around the word. If the current time shown for a city is wrong, check your Home time settings and make the necessary changes. The watch wi perform a signa reception even if it is in the Word Time Mode when a caibration time is reached. If this happens, the Word Time Mode time settings wi be adjusted in accordance with the Timekeeping Mode s Home time. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Word Time Mode, which you enter by pressing C. To view the time in another city Whie in the Word Time Mode, press D to scro through the city codes (time zones) to the east. For fu information on city codes, see the Code Tabe. To togge a city code time between and Dayight 1. In the Word Time Mode, use D to dispay the city code (time zone) whose /Dayight setting you want to change. 2. Hod down A to togge Dayight (DST indicator dispayed) and (DST indicator not dispayed). DST indicator Note that you cannot use the Word Time Mode to change the DST setting of the Home code you currenty have seected in the Timekeeping Mode. See To change the Dayight (summer time) setting for information about turning the Home code DST setting on and off. The DST indicator wi appear on the dispay whenever you dispay a city code for which Dayight is turned on. Note that the DST/ setting affects ony the currenty dispayed city code. Other city codes are not affected. Countdown Timer Seconds Minutes You can set the countdown timer within a range of one to 60 minutes. An aarm sounds when the countdown reaches zero. Caibration signa reception (both auto and manua) is disabed whie a countdown timer operation is in progress. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Countdown Timer Mode, which you enter by pressing C. To set the countdown start time 1. Whie the countdown start time is on the dispay in the Countdown Timer Mode, hod down A unti the current countdown start time starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. If the countdown start time is not dispayed, use the procedure under To use the countdown timer to dispay it. 2. Whie a setting is fashing, use D (+) and B ( ) to change it. 3. Press A to exit the setting screen. To use the countdown timer Press D whie in the Countdown Timer Mode to start the countdown timer. When the end of the countdown is reached, the aarm sounds for 10 seconds or unti you stop it by pressing any button. The countdown time is automaticay reset to its starting vaue after the aarm stops. Press D whie a countdown operation is in progress to pause it. Press D again to resume the countdown. To competey stop a countdown operation, first pause it (by pressing D), and then press A. This returns the countdown time to its starting vaue. Stopwatch The stopwatch ets you measure eapsed time, spit times, 1/100 second and two finishes. Seconds The dispay range of the stopwatch is 59 minutes, seconds. The stopwatch continues to run, restarting from zero after it reaches its imit, unti you stop it. Exiting the Stopwatch Mode whie a spit time is frozen on the dispay cears the spit time and returns to eapsed time measurement. The stopwatch measurement operation continues even if you exit the Stopwatch Mode. Minutes A of the operations in this section are performed in the Stopwatch Mode, which you enter by pressing C. When the aarm is turned on, the aarm sounds when the aarm time is reached. You can aso turn on an Houry Time Signa, which wi cause the watch to beep twice every hour on the hour. When the aarm is turned on, the aarm screen aternates between ALON (aarm on) and the current aarm time (hour and minutes). When the aarm is off, ALOF (aarm off) remains on the aarm screen. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Aarm Mode, which you enter by pressing C. Pressing D in the Aarm Mode togges between the aarm screen and Houry Time Signa screen. 1. In the Aarm Mode, press D to dispay the aarm screen. 2. Hod down A unti the hour setting of the aarm time starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. This operation automaticay turns on the aarm. 3. Press C to move the fashing between the hour and minute settings. 4. Whie a setting is fashing, use D (+) and B ( ) to change it. When setting the aarm time using the 12-hour format, take care to set the time correcty as a.m. (no indicator) or p.m. (P indicator). 5. Press A to exit the setting screen. Aarm Operation The aarm sounds at the preset time for about 10 seconds, regardess of the mode the watch is in. To stop the aarm tone after it starts to sound, press any button. Aarm and Houry Time Signa operations are performed in accordance with the Timekeeping Mode digita time. To test the aarm In the Aarm Mode, hod down D to sound the aarm. To turn the aarm and the Houry Time Signa on and off 1. In the Aarm Mode, press D to seect the aarm or the Houry Time Signa screen. 2. Press A to togge the currenty seected function on (ON dispayed) and off (OF dispayed). The aarm on indicator and the Houry Time Signa on indicator remain on the dispay in a modes whie these functions are turned on. Houry time signa on indicator Aarm on indicator Iumination An LED (ight-emitting diode) and ight guide pane iuminate the digita dispay for easy reading in the dark. See Iumination Precautions for other important information. To turn on iumination In any mode (except when a setting is on the dispay), press B to iuminate the dispay. 3

4 Timekeeping Use the Timekeeping Mode to set and view the current time and date. This section aso expains how to manuay set the current date and time. When setting the time, you can aso configure settings for the iumination duration and the 12/24-hour format. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Timekeeping Mode, which you can enter by pressing C. Day Month Seconds Press A. Last Signa Screen Setting the Digita Time and Date Manuay Make sure you seect your Home code before you change the current time and date settings. Word Time Mode times are a dispayed in accordance with the Timekeeping Mode settings. Because of this, Word Time Mode times wi not be correct if you do not seect the proper Home code before setting the time and date in the Timekeeping Mode. To set the current digita time and date manuay 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A unti the city code code starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. 2. Press C to move the fashing in the sequence shown beow to seect other settings. 3. When the setting you want to change is fashing, use D to change it as described beow. Screen: Code Power Saving DST Day To do this: Change the city code 12/24-Hour Format Month Cyce between Dayight (ON), (OFF), and Auto DST (AUTO) Togge between 12-hour (12H) and 24-hour (24H) timekeeping Reset the seconds to 00 Change the hour or minutes Change the year Seconds Year Do this: Press D (east). Auto DST (AUTO) can be seected ony whie LIS, LON, MAD, PAR, ROM, BER, STO, ATH, MOW, HKG, BJS, TPE, SEL, TYO, HNL, ANC, YVR, LAX, YEA, DEN, MEX, YWG, CHI, MIA, YTO, NYC, YHZ, or YYT is seected as the Home code. For more information, see Dayight (DST) beow. For information about settings other than the time and date, see the foowing. Power Saving: Power Saving Function Dayight (DST) Dayight (summer time) advances the time setting by one hour from. Remember that not a countries or even oca areas use Dayight. The time caibration signas transmitted from Mainfingen (Germany), Rugby (Engand), or Fort Coins (the United States) incude both and DST data. When the Auto DST setting is turned on, the watch switches between Standard Time and DST (summer time) automaticay in accordance with the signas. The time caibration signas transmitted from Fukushima and Fukuoka/Saga (Japan) do not incude summer time data. The defaut DST setting is Auto DST (AUTO) whenever you seect LIS, LON, MAD, PAR, ROM, BER, STO, ATH, MOW, HKG, BJS, TPE, SEL, TYO, HNL, ANC, YVR, LAX, YEA, DEN, MEX, YWG, CHI, MIA, YTO, NYC, YHZ, or YYT as your Home code. If you experience probems receiving the time caibration signa in your area, it is probaby best to switch between and Dayight (summer time) manuay. To change the Dayight (summer time) setting 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A unti the city code starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. 2. Press C once and the DST setting screen appears. 3. Use D to cyce through the DST settings in the sequence shown beow. Auto DST (AUTO) DST off (OFF) DST on (ON) 4. When the setting you want is seected, press A to exit the setting screen. The DST indicator ( ) appears on the dispay to indicate that Dayight is turned on. Anaog Timekeeping The anaog time of this watch is synchronized with the digita time. The anaog time setting is adjusted automaticay whenever you change the digita time. Note The hands for the anaog timepiece move to adjust to a new setting whenever any of the foowing occurs. When you change the digita time setting manuay When the digita time setting is changed by time caibration signa reception When you change the Home code and/or DST setting If the anaog time does not match the digita time for any reason, use the procedure described under To adjust the anaog time to match the anaog setting to the digita setting. Whenever you need to adjust both the digita and the anaog time settings manuay, make sure you adjust the digita setting first. Depending on how much the hands have to move in order to adjust to the digita time, it may take some time before they stop moving. To adjust the anaog time 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, press C six times to enter the Hand Setting Mode. 2. Hod down A unti the current digita time starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. 3. Use D and B to adjust the anaog setting as described beow. When you want to do this: Move the hand setting forward 20 seconds Move the hand setting a short way forward at high speed Move the hand setting a ong way forward at high speed Perform this button operation: Hod down D. Reease D when the hands reach the setting you want. Whie hoding down D to move the hands at high speed, press B to ock the high-speed hand movement. To stop the hand movement, press any button. Hand movement stops automaticay if the hour hand makes one fu (12-hour) revoution. The minute hand wi be adjusted sighty to match the seconds when you exit the setting screen. To return to the Timekeeping Mode, press C. Power Suppy This watch is equipped with a soar ce and a specia rechargeabe battery (secondary battery) that is charged by the eectrica power produced by the soar ce. The iustration shown beow shows how you shoud position the watch for charging. Exampe: Orient the watch so its face Soar ce is pointing at a ight source. The iustration shows how to position a watch with a resin band. Note that charging efficiency drops when any part of the soar ce is bocked by cothing, etc. You shoud try to keep the watch outside of your seeve as much as possibe. Charging is reduced significanty if the face is ony partiay covered. Important! Storing the watch for ong periods in an area where there is no ight or wearing it in such a way that it is bocked from exposure to ight can cause rechargeabe battery power to run down. Make sure that the watch is normay exposed to bright ight whenever possibe. This watch uses a specia rechargeabe battery to store power produced by the soar ce, so reguar battery repacement is not required. However, after very ong use, the rechargeabe battery may ose its abiity to achieve a fu charge. If you experience probems getting the specia rechargeabe battery to charge fuy, contact your deaer or CASIO distributor about having it repaced. Never try to remove or repace the watch s specia battery yoursef. Use of the wrong type of battery can damage the watch. The current time and a other settings return to their initia factory defauts whenever battery power drops to Leve 5 and when you have the battery repaced. Functions are enabed once again after the rechargeabe battery is charged, but you need to set the time and date, after the battery reaches Leve 4 (indicated by the fashing charge indicator (C)) from Leve 5. You wi not be abe to configure any of the other settings unti the battery reaches Leve 3 (no charge indicator) after dropping to Leve 5. Leaving the watch in direct sunight or some other very strong ight source can cause the battery eve indicator to show a reading that is momentariy higher than the actua battery eve. The correct battery eve indicator shoud appear after a few minutes. The watch s Home code setting wi change automaticay to TYO (Tokyo) whenever the battery drops to Leve 5. With this Home code setting, the watch is configured to receive the time caibration signas of Japan. If you are using the watch in North America or Europe, you wi need to change the Home code setting to match your ocation whenever the battery drops to Leve 5. If you use the iumination or aarms a number of times during a short period, the hands of the watch wi stop. Battery Leve Indicator wi show R at this time. Charging Precautions Certain charging conditions can cause the watch to become very hot. Avoid eaving the watch in the areas described beow whenever charging its rechargeabe battery. Power Saving Function When turned on, the Power Saving function enters a seep Power saving indicator state automaticay whenever the watch is eft in an area where it is dark for a certain period. The tabe beow shows how watch functions are affected by the Power Saving function. To recover from the seep state Perform any one of the foowing operations. Move the watch to a we-it area. Press any button. To turn Power Saving on and off 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A unti the city code starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. 2. Press C nine times unti the Power Saving on/off screen appears. 3. Press D to togge Power Saving on (PSON) and off (PSOF). The Power Saving indicator ( ) is on the dispay in a modes whie Power Saving is turned on. Button Operation Tone In any mode (except when a setting screen is on the dispay), hod down C for about three seconds to togge the button operation tone on and off. The button operation tone off indicator ( ) is dispayed whie the tone is turned off. Even if the button operation tone is turned off, the daiy aarm and countdown timer aarm continue to sound when required. Auto Return Features If you eave the watch in the Aarm or Hand Setting Mode, or with the Battery Leve indicator dispayed for two or three minutes without performing any operation, it automaticay returns to the Timekeeping Mode. If you eave the watch with a fashing setting on the dispay for two or three minutes without performing any operation, the watch automaticay exits the setting screen. Scroing The B and D buttons are used in various modes and setting screens to scro through data on the dispay. In most cases, hoding down these buttons during a scro operation scros through the data at high speed. Initia Screens When you enter the Word Time Mode, the data you were viewing when you ast exited the mode appears first. Radio-controed Atomic Timekeeping Precautions Strong eectrostatic charge can resut in the wrong time being set. The time caibration signa bounces off the ionosphere. Because of this, such factors as changes in the refectivity of the ionosphere, as we as movement of the ionosphere to higher atitudes due to seasona atmospheric changes or the time of day may change the reception range of the signa and make reception temporariy impossibe. Even if the time caibration signa is received propery, certain conditions can cause the time setting to be off by up to one second. The current time setting in accordance with the time caibration signa takes priority over any time settings you make manuay. The watch is designed to automaticay update the date and day of the week for the period January 1, 2000 to December 31, Setting of the date by the time caibration signa cannot be performed starting from January 1, This watch can receive signas that differentiate between eap years and non-eap years. Though this watch is designed to receive both time data (hour, minutes, seconds) and date data (year, month, day), certain signa conditions can imit reception to time data ony. Normay, the signa reception date shown by the Last Signa screen is the date data incuded in the received time caibration signa. When ony time data is received, however, the Last Signa screen shows the date as kept in the Timekeeping Mode at the time of signa reception. If you are in an area where proper time caibration signa reception is impossibe, the watch keeps time within ±15 seconds a month at norma temperature. If you have probems with proper time caibration signa reception or if the time setting is wrong after signa reception, check your current city code, DST (summer time), and auto receive settings. 5

6 Timekeeping Resetting the seconds to 00 whie the current count is in the range of 30 to 59 causes the minutes to be increased by 1. In the range of 00 to 29, the seconds are reset to 00 without changing the minutes. The day of the week is automaticay dispayed in accordance with the date (year, month, and day) settings. The year can be set in the range of 2000 to The watch s buit-in fu automatic caendar makes aowances for different month engths and eap years. Once you set the date, there shoud be no reason to change it except after you have the watch s battery repaced or when battery power drops to Leve 5. The current time for a city codes in the Timekeeping Mode and Word Time Mode is cacuated in accordance with the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) differentia for each city, based on your Home time setting. The times for the Timekeeping Mode and a the city codes of the Word Time Mode are cacuated in accordance with each city s UTC differentia. The UTC differentia is a vaue that indicates the time difference between a reference point in Greenwich, Engand and the time zone where a city is ocated. The etters UTC is the abbreviation for Universa Time Coordinated, which is the word-wide scientific standard of timekeeping. It is based upon carefuy maintained atomic (cesium) cocks that keep time accuratey to within microseconds. Leap seconds are added or subtracted as necessary to keep UTC in sync with the Earth s rotation. 12-hour/24-hour Timekeeping Formats The 12-hour/24-hour timekeeping format you seect in the Timekeeping Mode is aso appied in a other modes. With the 12-hour format, the PM indicator (P) appears on the dispay for times in the range of noon to 11:59 p.m. and no indicator appears for times in the range of midnight to 11:59 a.m. With the 24-hour format, times are dispayed in the range of 0:00 to 23:59, without any indicator. Iumination Precautions Iumination may be hard to see when viewed under direct sunight. Iumination automaticay turns off whenever an aarm sounds. Frequent use of iumination runs down the battery.
