An added 1/8 to 1/2 yard is added to all yardages to account for shrinkage, straightening, cutting errors and prints that may require special cutting to get the best results. You should protect your investment in time and fabric by making sample blocks before cutting into your fabric because Exclusively Quilters will take no responsibility for replacing fabrics. Shops who wish to kit this design are responsible for figuring yardage for their kits if they wish to reduce yardages. Cutting Directions: All measurements based on a 1/4" seam allowance. From the cream fabric: Cut one 4-3/8" x 44" strip, recut into three 4-3/8" squares* Cut one 3-1/2" x 44" strip, recut into twelve 3-1/2" squares* Cut six 2-1/2" x 44" strips for border Cut seven 2" x 44" strips for border From remaining yardage, cut six each of Templates A, B, D, Dr, G and Gr From the blue airplanes fabric: Cut eight 2-1/2" x 44" strips for binding Cut six 2" x 44" strips for border Cut eight 1-1/2" x 44" strips for border From remaining yardage, cut six each of Templates C, F and H From the red airplanes fabric: From yardage, cut six each Template E From the multi-colored planes on blue fabric: Cut two 5-1/2" x 44" strips, recut into twelve 5-1/2" squares Cut six 4" x 44" strips for border From the multi-colored planes on cream fabric: Cut two 5-1/2" x 44" strips, recut into twelve 5-1/2" squares From the flight plan on blue fabric: Cut two 5-1/2" strips the length of the fabric, parallel to the selvage From remaining fabric, cut six 5-1/2" strips the width of the fabric From the blue clouds fabric: Cut three 8" x 44" strips, recut into twelve 8" squares* Cut squares as indicated: *

2 Page 2 Square-in-a-Square Blocks: 1. Lay out two 5-1/2" multi-color planes on blue squares alternating with two 5-1/2" multi-colored planes on cream squares as shown. Stitch the squares into rows then sew the rows together. Make a total of six four-patch units. 6. Lay out the six blocks, each with a cockpit unit, wing unit, fuselage unit and tail section. Stitch the units together. 2. Add four 8" blue cloud half-square triangles to the sides of the four-patch units. Trim to 14-5/8" square. Plane Blocks: 1. Sew a cream Template D and Template Dr piece to each of the six blue airplane Template C pieces. 2. Stitch a cream Template B then cream Template A to each of the cockpit units. 3. Stitch two cream 3-1/2" half-square triangles to each of the red Template E pieces as shown. 4. Make six fuselage units by adding a cream Template G and Gr pieces to each of the blue Template F pieces as shown. G F E D B Gr C A Dr 5. Stitch two 3-1/2" cream half-square triangles to each of the blue Template H pieces. Add one H 4-3/8" cream half-square triangle to the bottom of the tail section. Assembly & Borders: 1. Lay out blocks in four horizontal rows of three blocks each, alternating the two blocks. Sew blocks into rows, stitch rows together. 2. Cut two 2" x 44" blue airplane strips each into two equal lengths. Stitch each half-strip end-toend to a full-length strip. Add borders to right and left sides, then to top and bottom of quilt. Press and trim excess after each border addition. 3. Make and add a 2-1/2" cream border in the same manner as the first border. 4. Make and add a 4" multi-colored planes on blue border in the same manner as the first border. 5. Make two borders each with two 2" x 44" cream strips sewn together end-to-end. Add these to the right and left sides of quilt. Cut one 2" x 44" cream strip into two equal lengths and sew each to a full-length strip. Add these to the top and bottom of quilt.

3 Page 3 6. Sew a 5-1/2" x length of fabric flight plan on blue border to right and left sides of quilt. Make two borders each with three 5-1/2" x the width of fabric flight plan on bluesew together end-to-end. Add these to the top and bottom of quilt. 7. Make two borders each with two 1-1/2" x 44" blue airplane strips sewn together end-to-end. Add borders to right and left sides of quilt, then to top and bottom. Finishing: 1. Cut backing into two equal lengths. Sew the two lengths together along selvage edges. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt or tie as desired. 3. Carefully trim backing and batting even with quilt top. 4. Leaving an 8" tail of binding, sew binding to top of quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12" from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding flat along quilt edge. Where these two loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends of the binding together right sides together. Trim seam to 1/4" and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt. 15. Turn binding to back of quilt and blind stitch in place. 2. Prepare binding from eight 2-1/2" x 44" blue airplane strips. Sew strips together into one long binding strip. Press strip in half lengthwise.
