2 Fabric Needed: 1 yd - Fabric A (large triangle) 1 yd - Fabric B (large triangle) 1 3/ yd - Background fabric 1/ yd each - 13 fabrics (small triangles) yds - backing 1/2 yd - binding Please read all instructions carefully before starting to cut or sew. Always sew right sides together with a 1/ seam Press all seams open. Be careful not to stretch the long side of the traingles while sewing rows together. HST = Half Square Triangle What to cut: From Fabric A cut: 5-12 squares, then cut into HST squares x x.5 From Fabric B cut: 5-12 squares, then cut into HST sq x x squares from each of the 13 different small triangle fabrics From the Background fabric cut: squares -.5 squares squares, then cut into triangles as shown: Make the half-square triangle blocks shown below: On each of the Background squares, draw a line from one corner to the opposite corner. Start with 1 square of Background and 1 square of another small triangle fabric. With right sides together, line these squares up on top of each other. Sew a scant 1/ on both sides of the line. Cut on the line and press open. Cut apart Press open Make this many of each: Sew Sew You now have two half square triangle blocks. Repeat with the appropriate fabrics until you have the required number of each, as shown at right. Once you have sewn and pressed all the blocks, trim down to 6. Use a ruler with a 5 line to help make sure you keep the seam at exactly 5. Cut all the remaining 6.5 squares of small triangle fabrics into HST s. 5 line 2

3 Create pieced triangles as shown here: Step 1 Line up these edges Make this many of each: Line up these edges Step 2 Sew HST s to two sides of the blocks, making a large pieced triangle. Make sure the straight edges line up. The corners of the small triangles will over hang the edges by 1/ on each side. Your seam should line up with where the two fabrics meet. This is so that you end up with an even bottom edge. Trim long edge of pieced triangle if necessary. Starting with a.5 sq each of Background fabric and Fabric A, sew what is basically a log cabin block. Cut this block in half on the diagonal. For the third triangle, sew a.5 sq of background fabric and a.5 x.5 piece of fabric A together. Add the 12.5 rectangle to the next side as shown below. Repeat for Fabric B..5 sq. 3 Make this many of each:.5 x x.5 Cut 3.5 x.5.5 x.5.5 x 12.5 Cut 3

4 Sew triangles into rows as shown here: Row 1A When sewing triangles together, they must be offset by about a 1/ on both sides. A little bit of the tips will. If you don t, the triangles won t line up straight once they re sewn. Repeat for each row shown here. If necessary, trim edges of rows so that they are even. 5 Sew rows together in the order shown here: Row 1A Row 2B Row 3A Row B Row A Row 3B Row 2A Row 1B When lining up rows to sew, start in the middle and line up matching seams and pin. Work your way out towards the edges, lining up seams and pining as you go. Once your top is complete, baste your back, batting and top together using your favorite method.
