4 General Information and Safety Instructions 2 Please read carefully through the following information and keep these instructions, in case you need to refer to them later. If you pass the product on to someone else, please also include these instructions. Designated use Maximum fresh wood cutting capacity of approx. 28mm diameter. Therefore, do not use it for branches with a diameter that is larger than 28mm, as this can lead to damage of the tree pruner and the blade. With branches that have a diameter of more than 28mm and with dry, hard wood, use the saw included. The product is designed for private use and is not suitable for commercial use. Safety Not suitable for persons under the age of 18. The tree pruner is not a toy! Keep the product away from children and store it so that it is inaccessible for children. Prior to each use, ensure that all of the screws are tightly secured. Tighten any loose screws, nuts or bolts. Always check the cutting function of your tree pruner prior to each use. Ensure that the safety lock of the telescopic unit is always closed, in order to avoid the telescopic pole retracting and extending unintentionally. If the tree pruner is not being used, please ensure that you cover the cutting head and saw blade with the included blade protectors. This avoids the risk of injuries. Symbols on the product The symbols on the product have the following meaning: Read the operating instructions and follow all warnings and safety instructions. Always wear appropriate head and eye protection, when working with the tool. This way, you are protected from possible falling branches and wood splinters. 4

5 In order to avoid cut injuries, always wear suitable work gloves during use. Ensure that you are standing securely while working. Wear non-slip safety shoes and close-fitting clothing. Caution! The pruner is not protected from electric shocks when coming into contact with high-voltage lines. Do not use in the vicinity of high-voltage lines, electric cables, electric fences, etc. Electric shock hazard. Maintain a minimum distance of 10m from high-voltage lines. Do not use on ladders. There is a risk of falling when working with both hands. Care and Maintenance 3 A good tool must be cared for. In order to extend the service life and cutting performance: Clean the blade after each use with a dry cloth and apply a few drops of oil to the blade and joints. This way, you also avoid the formation of corrosion on the cutting head and on the saw blade. Dirt and rust on the blades can spread plant diseases. Oil the pivot points on a regular basis in order to ensure easy and efficient handling. Check that all parts are securely fastened on a regular basis. Tighten loose screws, nuts or bolts, e.g. the pruner joint screws on the cutting head and the saw blade mounting, when using the saw blade. Disposal 4 Dispose of the packaging in an environmentally appropriate manner. 5

6 Instructions 5 Cut off dead or diseased branches immediately, as soon as they are noticed. If you would like to tidy further, you can cut out thin branches that are obviously not bearing any blossoms or fruit. This mainly happens in shaded areas of the plant, directly on the trunk and in the middle. The removal of these branches promotes the growth of the remaining plant. Branches that overlap one another, that impair and damage one another, should be cut off in order to create a good and strong framework for the plant structure. This is particularly important with trees and particularly with apple trees. Thin out fruit trees after the harvest or in spring. Thin out ornamental trees in autumn and spring. B Angle too steep: The bud is weakened on the branch. C Too close to the bud: The bud could die. D Too far away from the bud: A long stump is a point of attack for insects and diseases. Cutting head This tree pruner is equipped with a strength-saving bypass blade system with leverage. The tree pruner should be aligned at a 45 angle for cutting fresh wood and a 90 angle for cutting dry wood. Maintain this cutting angle, as it can otherwise result in damage to the blade. 6

7 Cutting head adjustment The cutting head, which is adjustable up to a maximum of 180, makes it possible to prune branches that are difficult to reach. HAZARD Be careful when handling, the blade is sharp. Wear appropriate safety gloves when moving the cutting head. 1. Loosen the wing nuts on the cutting head (see Figure 1). 2. Put the cutting head into the required position. 3. Retighten the wing nuts. Transport Rotate the cutting head downwards, as per Figure 1. Lock it into this position. Close and lock the blades by pulling and locking the access shell (see Figure 3, page 9). open close adjustable cutting angle Figure 1: Rotating the cutting head The pull-grip is locked/unlocked by turning the union nut on the grip in accordance with the markings on the device. Please note the marking on the union nut and the corresponding marking on the grip (to the left: lock /, to the right: / unlock). 7

8 Attach saw blade HAZARD Be careful when handling, the blade is sharp. Wear appropriate safety gloves when attaching the saw blade. HAZARD If the saw blade is not being used or during assembly, always cover it with the plastic protective cover, in order to avoid injuries. 1. Attach the saw blade. Only tighten the wing nut loosely. 2. Unlock the cutting head. 3. Fold the cutting head down completely. 4. Slide the saw onto the wheel, as far as it will go (see grey arrow). 5. Tighten the wing nut. 6. Lock the cutting head Figure 2: Attach saw blade Use of the telescopic system The opening and closing of the telescopic system can be seen in figure 3, page 9. With the telescopic extension, the tree pruner can be extended to a maximum of approx. 363cm. After extending the tree pruner, and prior to use, ensure the safety lock is closed. The tree pruner has an access shell and a T-grip at the handle end, these are linked to the cutting head with a pulley system. 8

9 Depending on the branch removal, you can use the access shell/tgrip. By using the T-grip, you have an extended reach. 10 Opening width of the blades The opening width of the pruner blades is set to 28mm by the factory. However, in an individual case, it can become necessary to readjust this value according to your own pruning requirements. Please note that the opening width of the pruner blades is not larger than 28mm. Adjust the guide (same function as with a normal belt buckle). 3. Slide the guide back into its mounting under the access shell. 10
