4 CONTENTS SECTION 1: SECTION 2: SECTION 3: Inspection Guidelines Inspection Checklists Service Book SECTION 1 INSPECTION GUIDELINES In Accordance with AS/NZS :2000 Clause Horizontal and vertical life lines and rails this fall-arrest system must be serviced every 12 months unless they are to be out of service or stored for a period longer than 12 months. For systems which have been out of service for more than 12 months or have been stored under conditions suspected of adversely affecting the condition of the horizontal life rail a thorough inspection should take place paying particular attention to whether the item has been correctly assembled and whether all parts are present and in good working condition. The system is to be inspected by a competent person who has through a combination of training, education and experience to acquire the knowledge and skills that enable that person to correctly perform the task of inspecting the horizontal life rail. The following list is a guide to the inspection of the rigid life rail only. It does not take into consideration any other part of the fall-arrest system. Other parts of the system which may have to be inspected and are not covered by this service manual are belts, harnesses, lanyards, associated equipment and fall arrest devices. The following page contains a list to act as a guide to which the competent person inspecting the system should consider: Anchorages: Anchorages shall be visually inspected for signs of deterioration which might make them unserviceable. The parent structure shall also be visually inspected for modifications or deterioration which might lead to a loss of anchorage strength. Anchorages provided by Safemaster which are drilled-in anchorages such as friction anchorages (i.e. AT-24 and AT-52 refer to drawings) should be proof loaded every twelve months as in accordance with Section 6 of AS/NZS :2000. This states that a proof load of 50% of the design ultimate strength shall be applied to the anchorage. In this case the load should be 775kg ± 25kg (approximately 7.5kN). As the ultimate design strength is 15kN. Brackets: Any deterioration to the bracket (such as cracking distortion or looseness) which might lead to a loss of structural integrity. All connection fittings are intact and properly tightened. That all brackets are free from corrosion, dirt, grit, sand, cement, oil, grease and other contaminants, and that the end stops (refer to drawing AT-12) are in good condition.

5 INSPECTION GUIDELINES (continued) Mobile Attachment: Any deterioration or modifications to the mobile attachment which might lead to a loss of structural integrity. That all bolts are properly tightened and in good order. That the mobile attachment can travel the entire length of the rail without jamming or dragging to an extent which would not allow the user to move freely and without restraint. That the device is free from corrosion, dirt, grit and other contaminants which could affect its operation. Connect2 Horizontal Liferail: Condition of rigid rails to ensure all connecting fittings are intact and properly tightened and free from contaminants. Any evidence of wear, deep gouges or significant distortion which could affect the operation of the system or individual devices or lead to a loss of structural integrity. That the system has not been modified, revised or extended in anyway since original certification.
