Do not back-prime wood gutters. Do not splice gutter runs using a butt joint seal only. Prepare a deep web joint for sealant using a rough carving tool in a die grinder. Grind a /8 deep mortise spanning on either side of the joint. Use the same preparation for inside and outside miters, and for end stops. 2. Using a recommended polyurethern adhesive caulk, first coat the end wood on either side of the joint; then assemble and fill the prepared mortise with caulk, taking care not to overfill above the level of the bottom of the trough.. Wood gutters should have a slight pitch to drain water. Wood gutters that are to be sheet metal lined should not be pitched. Pre-drill cedar gutters and use only stainless steel fasteners. Contact the mill for additional information. 0 Wood Gutter Splice Joint. The bottom block of the balusters should align with the face of the riser, the face of the outside stringer, and the face of the gallery board in each direction. 2. The bottom block of the newel should be long enough to hang below the ceiling and the sloping stair soffit.. Nosing overhang N should be approximately 6/5 of tread thickness T. 4. The minimum required width W of the newel should be the width of the baluster B plus twice the nosing overhang N, plus /8. 5. The layout and construction of architectural assemblies using columns and pilasters are generated from the column and/or pilaster centerlines. Component features such as cornice overhangs and deck projections are calculated as offsets from these centerlines. Always lay out the finish first, and then work back to get the framing profiles needed to accommodate the finish configuration. 2. The lower column diameter D (Major Diameter) is measured at the lower end of the column shaft, as shown. The upper column diameter (Minor Diameter) is measured at the neck of the column. For classical columns, the upper diameter is approximately 5/6 of the lower diameter. Expressed as a decimal, this is between.8 and.85 x the lower diameter. The tapering or reduction in the shaft of a classical column follows specific rules and does not taper in a straight line. Generally, the shaft is straight for the first 2/5 of the height, and then gradually diminishes in an arc over the upper /5 of the height until the diameter is reduced by about /6. 4. The Module (M) is one half the lower column diameter - or the distance from the center of the column to the outer circumference of the lower shaft. 5. The proportioning system shown will work for any diameter column. Begin by measuring the column s or pilaster s lower diameter in inches, and then divide by 2 to get the module. Multiply the module by the decimal factors shown on the drawing to get the size or offset location of any selected feature or molding, in inches. Column 6M or 8D Shaft 6. The module is used as the basic proportioning unit in preference to the diameter because it establishes all dimensions in relation to the column centerline.
