Quality of workmanship: Superior craftsmanship and highquality material create a system that exudes excellence with the final project finished to perfection Technical challenge: The installation of the stair system required challenging connections to steel and concrete. The engineering details showed that anything is possible 44

2 Aesthetic value: A jaw-dropping art-piece designed for conversation and reflection, modern and sculptural, highlighting its materials and what is possible. This stair moves you through time, with your eyes, with your senses and ultimately between floors. Stair safety: Code compliant technical design meeting the IRC rules. Graspable handrails 4 rule between treads, protective metal balustrade panels, open treads offering light below, comfortable gait. Quality of workmanship: Sculpted original corbel-style Walnut treads with connecting hand-sculpted walnut ribbons ; bright stainless steel and brass interwoven guardrail for code compliance; dramatic entry and exit, shapes reminiscent of nature yet undefinable. Technical challenge: Hand-shaped and sculpted Walnut pieces, interlocking keyed wood joints on ribbons, brass wire wrapped joints connecting stainless balustrade; 5 cantilevered structural wood treads on curved wall surface. 45

3 Aesthetic value: Larger than life drama executed with all of our well opening millwork. Massive newel posts anchor the bottom of the 10-0 wide flared / bowed stairway. Beautiful panel work flawlessly integrated. COOL creepy spider balustrade. Stair safety: Enlarged runs & shallow riser heights with rails both sides of stairway. All local codes met & exceeded. Quality of workmanship: Helical mid-landing spider balustrade system carved out and filleted into curb & rail. Curved & straight well opening panel work with beautiful fit and finish work without any nail or screw holes visible. Technical challenge: The design, layout, & fabrication of the spider balustrade panel system required uniform spider legs from start to finish. The beautiful barrel panel work at base of stair with uniform spaced stiles throughout entire well. 46

4 Aesthetic value: The need for rooms under the upper flight, but desire for an open riser, created the unique opportunity for this dual style! Glass and stainless railings kept the look simple to balance the complex layout. Stair safety: Glass standoffs are secured into threaded holes in the metal substructure inside floating treads for extra strong anchored glass railing. Thick treads were used to reduce space between to less than 4 on lower flight. Quality of workmanship: All stainless is 316, with a wire brushed finish and welded fittings. Stair is cladded with plain sawn white oak, finished to match wood flooring flawlessly. Thick tread nosings on upper flight to match lower. Technical challenge: Lower flight is constructed with a cantilevered metal sub-structure with holes pre-threaded for glass standoffs. The design and engineering involved to design the first flight so the stair could achieve a floating stringer free 47

Stair safety: Standard stair design to meet code with a reclaimed look Quality of workmanship: Rustic quality, saving patina and old saw marks Technical challenge: Working with reclaimed wood leaving you no room for error and limited one of a kind material. Installing arrows in balusters, sawing post in half to clad steel uprights and panels on gallery. 64
