2 The term Rivet Buster is very literal, as these tools were originally designed in the early 1900 s for the installation and removal of hot rivets. In their standard configuration, they were used for the installation and shaping of hot rivets in structural steel. The addition of sleeves and a safety retainer to hold chisels allowed for the shearing off of rivet heads and the ability to punch out those same rivets. Advances in bolting technology and welding has all but eliminated the use of hot rivets in new construction, but the power of these hard hitting tools led to them being repurposed as the most versatile series of hand held demolition tools known to man.
