1 IPT Technologies AB HRV-601A Scaler/Chipper is very powerful but our advanced, patented anti-vibration system has reduced vibrations to an extremely low level. Much lower than other tools in its class assuming the tools are operated under real world conditions. The low vibration level makes it possible to use the tool for long periods and for precision work. The noise level is also remarkably low! Following these simple instructions will ensure a long life of excellent operation. Note that this tool needs generous lubrication. HRV-601A is equipped with a rubber grip for comfort. Chisel change is quick and easy. General Information The Scaler/Chipper is designed to operate at an air pressure of 6,5 to 7 bar, but will tolerate some variations without much change in performance. Do not exceed 8 bar pressure (although normally the excess pressure will discharge into the atmosphere). Connect to a 9 mm or larger hose. Use a an air connection that will not interfere with the end of the lever (17). The compressed air should be dry and clean. A filter unit should always be used. In line lubrication is recommended. Where this is not available, apply a generous amount of oil at the inlet every 4 hours of operation. See pages 5 and 7 for information about chisels and extension handles.. 2 Scaler/Chipper page 2 Important safety note All local safety rules with regard to installation, operation and maintenance shall be adhered to at all times. Always use adequate personal protective gear, e.g. safety goggles, noise protection, gloves etc. as appropriate. Make sure there is no accumulation of water or dirt in the hose (or the extension handle) by carefully blowing the hose (and handle) clean before connecting the tool. Always disconnect the tool from the air line before changing chisel or making other adjustments. Warnings Power tools are generally not insulated. Do not use near or in contact with electric power sources. Power tools shall not be used in explosive atmospheres. Do not use chisels that are broken, cracked or deformed. Use only chisels designed for this tool. Stored compressed air may cause a hazard. Long hair or loose clothing may be drawn in or trapped by the tool. Make sure that any sparks that may be emitted are directed so as not to cause a hazard. Be aware of the risk of a whipping compressed air hose. Use a face-mask or respirator if dust is created by the work.

3 Scaler/Chipper page 3 Operation The Scaler/Chipper is designed for cleaning concrete, heavy weld chipping, foundry chipping, cleaning etc. Its efficiency is very high compared to other tools of equal size. The low vibration level makes it possible to work with higher precision than with other tools and the noise level is remarkably low. HRV-601 doesn t work exactly the same as conventional scaling hammers. You need to get acquainted with the tool to appreciate the advantages. It doesn't start to work until there is resistance to the chisel. For efficient material removal you will find that an intermediate force works the best. See below for the correct orientation of the tool and chisel retainer. This side up! Do not use the tool upside down! The tool is delivered with the throttle lever (17) on the upper side of the tool. To change the position of the lever, secure the chisel in a vice and rotate the tool body (force needed) clock-wise into the desired position. The discharge of the compressed air is through the front of the tool. Some air circulates in and out of the tool through an opening between the rear (20) and the housing cover (19). This circulation is directed downwards but the opening in the housing cover can be rotated to direct the circulation air as desired.

4 Scaler/Chipper page 4 Changing the chisel Simply push the new chisel into the tool until it reaches the bottom of the chisel holder. Make sure that the chisel has snapped into the right position by trying to pull it out. To disconnect the chisel, first push the chisel into the tool or it will interfere with the release of the locking mechanism. Then push the safety-catch down (see 1) and push the locking mechanism forward as shown at 2. The chisel can now be removed, Note Always disconnect the hammer from the compressed air hose when removing or inserting the chisel. Do not clamp the housing (18) in a vice. Deformation of the housing will result in malfunction or poor performance of the tool. Do not point the front end downwards when removing the chisel. The chisel can fall out causing damage to persons and material. Use only chisels intended for this tool. (See Accessories below.) They have a square cross section and have a milled groove as shown in the Figures above.

5 Scaler/Chipper page 5 Maintenance Lubricate regularly (disconnect the scaler from the air hose and apply a generous amount of oil at the air connection). Use only quality air tool oil. Use about 1 cm 3 for every 4 hours of continuous operation. If the compressed air already contains oil from a continuous lubrication unit, then there will generally be no need for extra lubrication. Lack of lubrication results in excessive wear of critical parts of the tool! If a large amount of dirt or dust have entered the tool, the filter (28) in the rear (24) of the tool or on the extension handle can become clogged. The filter can easily be removed with a wide screwdriver for cleaning. Do not use too much force downward with the screwdriver as this may damage the filter. Chisel Retainer H Warranty The HRV-601A Scaler/Chipper is warranted for 12 months from the date of purchase against faulty workmanship or materials provided the tool has not been opened by unauthorised persons and has always been connected to a filtered air supply of the recommended pressure. Please return any defective tool to your authorised supplier. This warranty does not include repair or replacement required because of misuse, abuse or normal wear and tear. Use only original IPT spare parts for any replacement. Other parts may result in decreased performance and/or increased maintenance and wear.

As shown in ISO 5349 there is a strong correlation between vibration level and vascular diseases such as e.g. white fingers. This is a very low value and doesn't vary much for different working conditions. Most conventional tools have vibration levels, which are several times higher measured during normal operation. 2 Idling. (When working on metal the noise level is generally higher). The tests were made with microphones placed 1.6 m above the floor level and 1 m from the surface of the tool with equipment according to class 1 (IEC 651).

7 Scaler/Chipper page 7 Extension handles The Extension handles are designed specifically for the HRV-601A and will give superior ergonomic conditions for the operator. The compressed air should be dry and clean. A filter is strongly recommended. NOTE The Throttle Lever (17) will be damaged unless it is completely pressed down as the tool is screwed onto the Extension handle. After the tool and handle are correctly assembled, the Throttle Lever of the tool will remain in the down position (the valve fully open). The tool is now controlled by the Throttle Lever at the end of the Extension handle. WARNING!!! The Throttle lever has to be completely pressed down against the tool until the Extension handle is inserted fully or the lever will be damaged!
