Read all instructions before using this product! 1. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas invite injuries. 2. Observe work area conditions. Keep work area well lit. 3. Keep children away. Children must never be allowed in the work area. Do not let them handle the Nibbler. 4. Store idle equipment. When not in use, the Nibbler must be stored in a dry location to inhibit damage from moisture and salt air. Always lock up tools out of the reach of children. 5. Check for damaged parts. Before using the Nibbler, any part that appears damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for any broken or damaged parts and any other conditions that may affect its operation. Replace or repair damaged or worn parts immediately. 6. Replacement parts and accessories. When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use of any other parts will void the warranty. Only use accessories intended for use with this tool. Approved accessories are available from Harbor Freight Tools. 7. Do not force product. Do not use inappropriate attachments in an attempt to exceed the Nibbler s capacity. 8. Use the right product for the job. Do not attempt to force a small Nibbler or attachment to do the work of a larger industrial Nibbler. There are certain applications for which this Nibbler was designed. Do not modify this Nibbler and do not use this Nibbler for a purpose for which it was not intended. 3 9. Use eye and ear protection. Always wear ANSI approved impact safety goggles when installing or using this product. Wear a full face shield if you are producing metal filings or wood chips. Wear an ANSI approved dust mask or respirator when working around metal, wood, and chemical dusts and mists. 10. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry as they can be caught in moving parts. Protective, electrically non-conductive clothes and non-skid footwear are recommended when installing or using this product. Wear restrictive hair covering to contain long hair. Wear gloves to protect hands. 11. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. 12. Disconnect power. Unplug the drill when not in use. 13. Never leave the product running unattended while supporting an object. 14. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Check that keys and adjusting wrenches are removed from the tool or machine work surface before operating. 15. Avoid unintentional starting. Be sure the drill trigger is in the OFF position when not in use and before plugging in. Do not carry any tool with your finger on the trigger, whether it is plugged in or not. 16. Keep a firm grip on the drill and Nibbler at all times. It is important that the operator be in full control of the product at all times, failure to do so will result in damage to the workpiece, the Nibbler and the drill, and could lead to personal injury. 17. Make certain to read and adhere to all warnings and instructions in the drills owner s manual. 18. Make certain to check that the chuck of the drill is tightly securing the Nibbler Drive Shaft before use. 4 Assembly Your Small Gauge Nibbler is completely assembled. Before operating the Small Gauge Nibbler, a small amount of set-up is required. It is important that you read the entire manual to become familiar with the product BEFORE you operate the Nibbler. Before operating the Nibbler be sure that you have all parts described in the Parts List and Assembly Diagram located on the last pages of this manual. 1. Make certain that the drill (not included) is unplugged and that the power is OFF. Loosen the chuck on the drill. Insert the Shank of the Nibbler into the Chuck. Make certain that the chuck is tight and that the Shank of the Nibbler is centered within the jaws. Tighten the Chuck. The Nibbler requires a minimum of 3,000 RPM. 2. The Nibbler was designed for use on certain small gauge materials. The Nibbler can be used on stainless Steel (1/64 maximum thickness), copper (1/16 ), steel (3/64 ), PVC/Tile (5/64 ) and Plastics (3/32 ). Do not use the Small Gauge Nibbler on materials that it was not intended for. Keep the Nibbler oriented vertically with the Cutting Tip (3) facing downward. 3. Make certain that the work table or work surface height and position are set so that the Nibbler travel range is sufficient for the material to be worked on. 4. Make certain that the work piece is securely clamped. It should be held in a vise or bolted to the table. Never hold the material with your bare hands while using the Nibbler. This will result in severe personal injury. 5. If the material you are using is irregularly shaped and can t be laid flat on a workbench or table, it should be securely blocked and clamped. Any tilting, twisting or shifting will result not only in errors on the line to be cut, but also increases the chances of damage to the drill. 6. Set the workpiece so that the Nibbler will not come in contact with the table or workbench while the Nibbler is operating. 7. Mark off the line or figure that you wish to have the Nibbler cut on the workpiece. Line up the Cutting Tip (3) with the workpiece-see Figure 1. It is recommended that you practice cutting with a scrap workpiece before using the desired workpiece. 8. Once the instructions above have been followed, make certain that all safety instructions have been followed and turn the drill ON. 5 9. Grasp Nibbler firmly BEFORE turning on the drill, and hold securely while in use. With the Drill ON, pull the Nibbler through the marked section of the workpiece to make the desired cut. See Figure When the work is completed turn OFF the drill, wait for the Nibbler to stop vibrating before unplugging the drill s electrical cord. Loosen the drill s chuck and remove the Nibbler. Always store tools out of reach of children. General Maintenance 1. Keep the Nibbler clean and dry. Regularly clean the Nibbler with a dry brush or clean cloth. Prevent metal, wood, dust and debris from accumulating in the motor and Cutting Tip (3) areas. 2. Periodically lubricate the Oil Port (located near the Cutter) with a light machine oil. Unpacking When unpacking the Small Gauge Nibbler, check to make sure the following parts are included.
