METALS & FINISHES With our extensive custom fabrication capability, Heckmann can provide the types of metal and corrosion resistant treatments to meet your specifications including: STAINLESS STEEL: Stainless Steel provides the greatest level of corrosion resistance in most building environments, and is especially recommended for use with stone subject to staining and in exterior walls. Sheet metal anchors and ties: ASTM A 167 AISI Type 304.* Plate and Bent Bar Anchors: ASTM A 666 AISI Type 304.* Wire Ties and Anchors: ASTM A 580, AISI Type 304.* HOTDIP GALVANIZED AFTER FABRICATION: ASTM A 153. These heavy zinc coatings are applied after fabrication to assure that welds and exposed edges are plated. Specify for ties and anchors in exterior or interior walls exposed to a mean relative humidity exceeding 75 percent. Specify type of uncoated steel to be used. Class B-2: (1.50 oz/ft 2.)(0.46kg/m 2 )* ELECTRO GALVANIZED AFTER FABRICATION: Suggested for thicker steel (11 gage or more) where mill galvanizing does not provide adequate protection to cut edges, but where the greater protection of hot dip galvanizing is not required. ASTM A 164. Service Condition " minimum zinc thickness. * ACI 530 CODE REQUIREMENTS MILL GALVANIZED: Mill Galvanized before fabrication for use in interior walls. Sheet metal ties or anchors in interior walls: ASTM A653 G60.* Wire: ASTM A 641 (0.1 oz/ft 2 )* UNCOATED STEEL: Plain steel can be considered when welding would make plated anchors and ties impractical, or when parts will be galvanized after fabrication. Uncoated steel is not recommended for exterior walls or locations subject to moisture. Sheets: Hot Rolled, Pickled and Oiled sheets are ASTM A 569. Cold Rolled sheets are ASTM A 366, Class 1. ASTM A366/A 366M-95. Plates, Bars, and Shapes: ASTM A 36. ASTM A36/A 36-M96. Wire: ASTM A 82. ASTM A82-95a. Wire Rods and Coarse Round Wire Carbon Steel: ASTM A 510/A 510M-96. NON-FERROUS METALS: Heckmann can fabricate copper, brass, bronze, zinc alloy, and other metals for special project requirements. NOTE: Not all metals and finishes are available or standard for all parts. See part descriptions or call Heckmann for specific information. POS-I-TIE system complies with the ACI 530/ASCE 5/TMS 402 Code. The Barrel Screw is 1 piece. No more plates, screws and gaskets. Installs in seconds. 2. Complies with the Energy Conservation Requirements of the Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR 13 Envelope). 3. Uses consistent screw. Screw is provided as a part of the POS-I-TIE System. - No inferior screws can be substituted. 4. Provides positive connections. The Barrel Section actually penetrates sheathing and makes a Positive Lateral Connection with the backup for transfer of compression and tension loads to structural backup. 5. Enables speedy cost-saving installation. Only one screw needs to be placed, rather than two screws. 6. Corrosion Resistant. POS-I-TIE seals the hole it makes when it seats itself in the backup. 7. Barrel allows for differential movement due to temperature variations. Tie design provides for allowable ACI 530 code vertical adjustment. 8. Allows for use of 4 x 8 insulation sheets. The POS-I-TIE holds the insulation in place! Visit our website for test data, specifications, submittals, and a video of the installation of the Pos-I-Tie. 3

Once installed, the Wing Nut is hand tightened to seal the factory-installed washer against the insulation. 2. Easy installation with standard 5/16 hex socket. 3. Front loading of Pintle Wire Tie to save time and labor. 4. The Pintle Wire Tie style allows full verical adjustment of up to 1-1/4 up or down for easy and proper embedment in mortar bed. 5. The Pintle Wire Tie can be furnished with a seismic clip, where required. 6. Provides positive lateral support directly against the backup wall Delivers flexible connection to allow differential thermal expansion and bending. Pos-I-Tie Barrel is available in Zinc Plated Carbon Steel or Stainless Steel. WING NUT POS-I-TIE 6 BARREL LENGTHS Available with Self-Drilling screws, Concrete/CMU screws or Structural Steel screws. Wing Nut Selection (See chart) Add up the thickness of the sheathing (insulation + gypsum board). This will be the number that falls between the Adjustable sheathing dimensions - gray shaded area on the chart. Add in your airspace and make sure the total distance from the backup to the start of the veneer is less than the overall length of the screw from the backup. If two screws fit the criteria, choose the shorter overall length screw. Example: 5/8 Dens-glass with 2 insulation and 2 airspace. Sheathing thickness is 2-5/8. Distance from backup to start of veneer is 4-5/8. Both the 3-5/8 screw and the 4-1/8 screw fit the criteria. Specify the 3-5/8 long screw. 5 BRICK VENEER ANCHORING SYSTEMS Thermal Pos-I-Tie Features NEW Patent Pending Adjustable Brick Wire Tie Thermal Wing Nut Vapor Barrier Pos-I-Tie Stainless Steel Screw Barrel Neoprene Washer Rigid Insulation Steel Stud Sheathing 1. Wing nut made from a high quality proprietary plastic material which acts as a thermal bridge, decreasing thermal transfer through insulation. 2. Highly flame resistant with a UL 94 V-0 rating Very low thermal conductivity, over 100 times less than metals such as steel. Plastic Wing nut can replace the standard wing nut on the Wing Nut Pos-I-Tie (see page 4), or can be use with Stainless steel barrel for high corrosion resistance. Self-Drilling Screw Inserts available for steel stud backup walls. Concrete/CMU Screw Inserts available for concrete, CMU, brick and wood backup walls. Refer to ACI 530 Code Veneer Chapter section Alternative design of anchored masonry veneer due to use of plastic in the Thermal Wing Nut. 6. The code requires the veneer wall to have a continuous wire imbedded in the mortar joint. This wire is then connected to the veneer anchor which is attached to the backup structure. The Seismic System allows greater stability, safeguards against problems caused by thermal expansion and contraction, and provides uniform distribution of the lateral forces. A seismic tab notch can be provided for any flat Heckmann Anchor up to 1/8 (3.17 mm) thick. Below are examples of the No. 361 Dovetail, and No. 360 Veneer Seismic Anchors. 14 BREAKAWAY FIRE ANCHORS (MELTAWAY ANCHORS) Several building codes now require masonry walls to be secured, but to break-away or melt in the event of a fire. To accomplish this we offer our structural anchors to be manufactured from Rolled Strip Zinc Alloy 710. Anchors are available in 1/8 or 16 gage. The chart below lists physical and mechanical properties of the zinc strips and comparisons to other metals. Note the melting point of the zinc strips is under 800 degrees Fahrenheit.
