1 SECTION BEVEL RAIL ENDS PART 1- GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of the contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections apply to this section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section includes: 1.3 UNIT PRICES 1. This section includes method for increasing safety of remaining steel rail by shortening and beveling the ends. A. Unit prices are not applicable. All work in this section required by the specifications or plans shall be included in the Contractor's Base Bid Lump Sum price. The Base Bid Lump Sum shall include all labor, materials, equipment, tools and incidentals necessary to complete the work. PART 2- PRODUCTS (Not Used) PART 3- EXECUTION 3.1 PREPARATION A. Preserve in operating condition active utilities traversing site. Always locate utilities before digging by calling Missouri one call. B. Missouri Department of Transportation Traffic control for Field Operations TA-3 shall be used during rail beveling. 3.2 RAIL BEVELING A. Where rails remain near the surface at asphalt road crossings, the rail shall be exposed to within 8 inches of the edge of asphalt pavement. The rail shall be cut and removed and the remaining end shall have a 2 to 3 inch, 45 degree, bevel cut in the top comer by grinding or torching. 3 PART 1- GENERAL SECTION STRUCTURAL STEEL FOR BRIDGES 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. This Section includes the following: 1. Structural steel for proposed approach spans for bridge Structural steel for bridge Elastomeric Bearings and steel bolsters for bridge Neoprene Bearing Pads for bridges Cut web repair detail for bridge Threaded rods for adhesive anchorage. 7. Steel for shimming under deck panels. This includes bent plates, hot rolled channels and top flange plates. 8. Material Properties for Embeds, Side Bar and hardware for Precast Deck Panels. 9. Expansion Plates and Flat Head Stainless Steel Concrete Screws. 1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Shop Drawings: 1. Before beginning fabrication, the Contractor shall submit one set of shop drawings to the Engineer for review. 2. Drawings shall be on 11x17 in sheets. 3. During the preparation of shop drawings, the Contractor shall check all general dimensions of the steel work and shall report any discrepancies discovered to the engineer for revision and correction before fabrication is begun. 4. Indicate locations, plan views, elevations, dimensions, shapes, and cross sections for all structural steel. 5. Indicate welded connections by AWS standard symbols. Show size, length, and type of each weld. 6. No work or ordering of materials for this item shall be done until the submittal has been approved by the engineer. B. Zinc-Rich Paint Technical Data Sheet and Installation Directions
4 1.4 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS A. Welding Certificates: Copies of certificates for welding procedure specifications (WPS), supporting Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) (If required by A WS) and personnel Welding certificates. PART 2- PRODUCTS 2.1 STEEL SECTIONS A. Plates used in the following elements/assemblies shall be ASTM A572 Grade 50. These elements/assemblies shall be hot dip galvanized in accordance with ASTM A123 after fabrication. a. Bent Plates b. Welded Stud Bars c. Bottom Plate Assembly d. Side Plate e. Side Bar and associated Shim Plate and Plate Washers f. Top Flange Plate (Bridge 3153) g. Shim Bars (Bridge 3031) h. Channel Assembly (Bridge 3031) i. L3x3 Angle Assembly (Bridge 2141) j. TPG Side Plate (Bridge 2141) B. Plates, Bars, Plate Washers, Wide Flange Sections, Channels and Angles that are not referenced in section 2.1.A above shall be ASTM A588 weathering steel. C. Bolster Assembly, retainer angles, and sole plate for bridge 2141 shall be ASTM A588 weathering steel. D. HSS Sections shall be ASTM A THREADED RODS A. Threaded Rods shall be ASTM F1554 Grade 36 and shall be hot dip galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153 unless otherwise shown on the plans. a. Threaded rods for Pier substructure modifications at bridges 3153 and 3021 shall be ASTM F1554 Grade 36. B. Nuts shall be in accordance with section of the MoDOT Standard Spec. Nuts shall be Hot Dip Galvanized in accordance with ASM A153 unless otherwise shown on the plans or excluded below. a. Nuts for Pier Substructure modifications at bridges 3153 and
5 C. Washers shall be in accordance with Section of the MoDOT standard spec. Washers shall be hot dip galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153 unless otherwise shown on the plans or excluded below. a. Washers for Pier substructure modifications at Bridges 3153 and BOLTS A. Bolts, nuts and washers shall be in accordance with section of the MoDOT Standard Spec. unless otherwise shown on the plans or listed below. a. Top Flange Plate bolts at bridge 3153 shall be in accordance with section of the MoDOT Standard Spec. Nuts shall be in accordance with section , and washers shall be in accordance with section of the MoDOT Standard Spec. Bolts, Nuts and Washers shall be galvanized in accordance with section of the MoDOT Standard Spec. 2.4 STUDS A. Threaded and Headed Studs shall be in accordance with section of the MoDOT Standard Spec. Studs shall be Galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153 unless otherwise shown on the plans or excluded below. a. Headed studs for Pier substructure modifications at Bridges 3153 and Finish shall be as produced by cold drawing, cold rolling or machining. B. Nuts used for threaded studs shall be A563 heavy jam nuts. Washers shall be used with the threaded studs; the washer shall be in accordance with section of the MoDOT standard Spec. Nuts and washers shall be galvanized in accordance with ASTMA WELDS A. Welding Electrodes: E8018C3 Electrodes and comply with AWS standards for steel type and/or alloy being welded. 2.6 ELASTOMERIC BEARING PADS A. Elastomeric bearing pads shall be Grade 50 Durometer and in accordance with section 1038 of the MoDOT Standard Spec. B. Bond bottom of elastomeric bearing pads to steel bolsters with an epoxy adhesive, in accordance with the bearing manufacturer's recommendations for bonding neoprene to steel to prevent sliding. 2.7 NEOPRENE BEARING PADS A. Neoprene bearing pads shall be Grade 55±5 Durometer and in accordance with section of the MoDOT Standard Spec. 3
6 2.8 FLAT HEAD STAINLESS STEEL CONCRETE SCREWS A. Flat Head Stainless Steel Concrete Screws shall be Philips or Torx head screws. Screws shall be AISI type 410 stainless steel. The screws shall be one of the following or an approved equal: 1. Tapper Powers Fasteners 2 Powers Lane Brewster, NY Tapcon Concrete Anchor ITW Commercial Construction 700 High Grove Blvd Glendale Heights, IL KWIK-CON II+ Legacy Tower, Suite Dallas Parkway Plano, TX STRUCTURAL STEEL FABRICATION A. Structural steel fabrication shall be in accordance with section 1080 of the MoDOT Standard Spec. B. Bent plates shall be fabricated to dimensional tolerances of ±1/16". Angular tolerance for bends shall be ±1 degree TOUCH UP GALVANIZING A. Zinc-Rich paint shall be a single package, ready to apply, organic zinc compound with a minimum of 70% zinc dust in the dry film. Zinc-Rich paint cut sheets shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval. PART 3- EXECUTION 3.1 STRUCTURAL STEEL CONSTRUCTION A. Structural steel construction shall be in accordance with section 712 of the MoDOT Standard Spec. B. All field welding shall be in accordance with section of the MoDOT Standard Spec. C. Bolts shall be installed in accordance with section unless otherwise specified in the drawings. D. Any reference to method of measurement and basis of payment included in the MoDOT Standard Spec. DOES NOT apply to this section. 3.2 TOUCH UP GALVANIZING NOTES A. Indicated Welds on sheet G-1 02 of Volume 2 Drawings and damaged galvanized surfaces in the vicinity of the welds shall be touched-up after welding with the following procedure: 4

Prior to installing the weld, the existing galvanization shall be removed by grinding or burning in accordance with A WS D Prior to installing weld on painted steel, paint shall be removed by grinding. 2. Surfaces to be touched-up shall be clean, dry, and free of oil, and grease. All flux residue and weld spatter shall be removed with a wire brush. 3. Apply zinc-rich paint with brush to achieve a minimum of 3 Mils dry film thickness. Paint shall be applied 2" beyond edges of damaged areas, to ensure continuity of galvanic action. END OF SECTION

Section "Structural Steel for Bridges" for threaded rods, nuts and washers material properties. 2. Section "Cast-in-Place Concrete" for adhesive anchorage of railing base plate to concrete panels and concrete foundations. 3. Section "Cast-In-Place Concrete" for Concrete Piers 1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Shop Drawings: 1. Before beginning fabrication, the Contractor shall submit one set of shop drawings to the Engineer for review. 2. Drawings shall be on 11x17 in sheets 3. During the preparation of shop drawings, the Contractor shall check all general dimensions of the steel work and shall report any discrepancies discovered to the engineer for revision and correction before fabrication is begun. 4. Indicate locations, plan views, elevations, dimensions, shapes, and cross sections of each rail unit. 5. Indicate welded connections by AWS standard symbols. Show size, length, and type of each weld. 6. No work or ordering of materials for this item shall be done until the submittal has been approved by the engineer.

Mesh Panels: 4 GA Horse Panel (Fy = 36 ksi. Min.) 2.2 NEOPRENE PAD A. Neoprene bearing pads shall be Shore A - 50 Durometer and in accordance with Section of the MoDOT Standard Spec. 2.3 WELDS 1. Any reference to method of measurement and basis of payment included in the MoDOT Standard Spec. DOES NOT apply to this section. A. Welding Electrodes: E8018C3 Electrodes and comply with AWS standards for steel type and/or alloy being welded. 2.4 FABRICATION A. Fabricate items with joints tightly fitted and secured. Make exposed joints butt tight, flush and hairline. B. Grind exposed welds flush and smooth with adjacent finished surface. Ease exposed edges to small uniform radius. PART 3- EXECUTION 3.1 PREPARATION A. Obtain Architect-Engineer's review prior to site cutting or making adjustments to structural members not indicated to be cut or adjusted. 2
