1 Reference Guide and Installation Instructions Pocket Install Guide Congratulations and Thank You for your purchase! DryJoistEZ is an easy to install structural aluminum joist, that also provides a watertight deck drainage system. Provided are general instructions for the installation of the system and additional engineering details. If there are any questions along the way please don t hesitate to call Customer (877) or visit the Resource Library at Please read these instructions in their entirety before you start your project. Please follow these steps closely to ensure the durability and safety of your deck. Deck Structure Requirements: -The structural frame drawings in this guide are intended to illustrate the support requirements of DryJoistEZ, and are not to be considered as a recommendation for actual deck construction. Always consult a professional engineer to ensure code compliance. -DryJoistEZ shall be fastened directly to the perimeter framing on all sides and mid span beams. -Framing shall be built with a minimum pitch toward the drainage end of no less than 1/8 per foot drop. -Refer to page 7 for load ratings and maximum joist spans. Important! Ensure that the ledger board and flashing have been secured properly and are free from debris such as protruding nails or screws. DryJoistEZ should be installed perpendicular p to the structure, this allows water to flow AWAY from the structure and foundation. (See Illustration H) Illustration H STEP 5: Continue with Install After the first 4 or 6 main-joist has been installed and fastened down, continue installing the remaining joists by repeating either 6 main-joists or 4 multi-joists profiles. STEP 6: Outer Multi-Joist Install a 4 multi-joist as the end/edge profile to give the substructure a finished appearance. Installation is identical to 6 panels with the exception of the fastening method use 1- ½ SS hex head self-drilling fasteners. 4 Sealing to the Ledger Flashing Ledger Flashing It is important to have an even and clean flashing surface to seal the DryJoistEZ to. It is also ideal to have the vertical side of the flashing installed behind the first course of siding. Using an exterior flashing sealant, seal the profile of each joist to the flashing. *Make sure the aluminum is clean and free of debris before sealing. Add a second layer of flashing to the top side of the DryJoistEZ. Again, make sure the flashing is behind a course of siding and/or is sealed to the exterior of the home. Rain water is now collecting in the DryJoistEZ gutter channels and is following gravity toward the sloped, drainage side. Page 4

5 Sealing to the Header Flashing Install the Wahoo Decks Header Flashing on top of all beams at the drainage end. The drip ledge should be facing down. Seal the seam where the DryJoistEZ sits on the Header Flashing with Gutter Sealant. Any water that runs back under the bottom of the DryJoistEZ will hit the Header Flashing and then drop into the gutter. Page 5

6 Installing Profile Trim and Decking Install the supplied neoprene channel plugs into each dry channel before installing the Profile Trim. installed before the decking. The decking boards will be fastened through the trim holding the trim permanently in place. *Make sure the rail anchors are in place before installing the trim and decking. at the drainage end to allow water and debris to drain out freely. The decking can be secured via surface mounting or with hidden fasteners. All cut joints All cut joints in the deck board should be aligned on top of a Multi Board. These Multi Boards will need to be placed in desired locations at the time of installation. Page 6
