2 ABSTRACT Axie Infinity is a game centered around collecting, raising, and battling fantasy creatures called Axies. Axies come in many forms: they can resemble cats, birds, and fish while some might even have dragon genes hiding in their DNA. Players will interact and power-up their Axies through minigames, quests, contests, and special in-game events. Axie Infinity uses the Ethereum Blockchain to ensure open, transparent ownership structures and a liquid, secure marketplace. Players have complete ownership of their Axies and will be able to trade and sell them smoothly and securely. 1

4 1. INTRODUCTION Blockchain technology is already disrupting data-driven industries such as finance, logistics and cloud services. Despite this early success, scaling and mainstream adoption still pose challenges in the early days of this regime change away from centralized record-keeping systems. We believe that mainstream adoption of blockchain technology will come through simple, beautiful, decentralized applications (DAPPS). Armed with this belief, we built Axie Infinity in order to popularize blockchain and demonstrate its usefulness through a beautiful, social, and entrancing game. While other Ethereum games have done well, most players have been frustrated by the lack of true playability and sense of progress. We ve designed Axie Infinity to be the first game that allows players to truly treasure and grow with their digital collectibles. 1.1 Motivation Problems of traditional games Traditional games have been successful in crafting immersive experiences. However, these experiences are often transient, and are destroyed by the problems of centralization. Players have their items and achievements locked onto servers and databases that can be shut down at the whim of the game maker. In addition, game balancing can be meddled with by the creators and players are forced to adapt or quit they often choose the latter. 3

5 Problems of existing blockchain games Blockchain games like CryptoKitties have already succeeded in bringing new people to the blockchain. They ve demonstrated some of the usefulness of the blockchain: transparent, guaranteed ownership and game rules that cannot be changed once the initial smart contract is deployed. However, current blockchain games have struggled in creating an immersive gaming experience. Subsequently, many of the popular blockchain games have died when the profit potential from playing declined. To date, no Blockchain game has combined a user-friendly and progressoriented gaming experience with beautiful, collectible art pieces. Axie Infinity is here to change that. 4

When building Axie Infinity we wanted to make sure that the artwork would captivate our players much like a rare and beautiful pet would. Unique characters: The trait system and abundance of genes allows for an incredible diversity of Axies making them very collectible. Customizable Living Environments: Players will be able to customize their Axies living environments(terrariums). Different environments will confer different bonuses so the combinations will be endless! 5

7 Daily activities: The daily activities are influenced by the Tamagotchi of our childhood. Players will be able to bathe, feed and play with their Axies for small, fun rewards. An advanced Battle System: Players will be able to create teams of Axies and compete in competitive battles and tournaments. We plan on doing sponsored events that will allow valuable rewards for the winners of different tournaments. In the future, Axie battles might even become an e- sport. Minigames: We are developing a variety of minigames for players to use their Axies in. Some minigames will require Axies with specific trait combinations to enter. Minigames will provide small rewards and allow the community to have fun showing off their Axies. Social interactions: Players will be able to cooperate or compete with each other through quests, duels Immutable Asset Ownership: Axies exist on the blockchain which means that players will own their Axies forever, even if we stop developing and releasing new features. An open yet secure trading marketplace: Players will be able to sell and trade their Axies quickly and smoothly through the blockchain. We are experimenting with off-chain bidding systems as well to reduce the load on our end. 6

8 2. GAME MECHANICS 2.1 Character: Axies Life Cycle All Axies excluding pre-sale Axies will start as eggs. Eggs hatch into larvae. After a bit of care, larvae evolve into petite Axies and finally, adult Axies. Egg After the pre-sale Eggs can be acquired from the Axie laboratory. There s a rumor that whoever eats an Axie egg will be cursed by Vitalik himself. Larvae Larvae are newly hatched Axies that resemble translucent tadpoles. After a bit of care, Larvae are ready to become Petite Axies. Petite Axie Petite Axies resemble normal Axies but they lack of advanced body parts and are smaller in size. Petite Axies need to be fed and bathed in order to grow into adult Axies. Adult Axie Adult Axies are fully formed. They can breed, battle, and participate in mini-games. 7

2.1.2 Body Parts Axies have a wide variety of body parts making each Axie unique and special. We got the idea for Axies from the Greek mythological creature, the Chimera.

We were also inspired by our childhood experience of creating creatures from our our food. Sadly those works of art were consumed shortly after creation.

Chimeras possess features of Lions, Goats, and Serpent so we wanted each Axie to possess interesting parts from a variety of types of creatures. We were also inspired by our childhood experience of creating creatures from our our food. Sadly those works of art were consumed shortly after creation. The Potato Beast Axies have a total of 8 different body parts and traits: eyes, mouth, ears, horns, back, tail, body pattern, body color. Some Axies are born with missing parts. These Axies are currently under research. 8

10 We d like to introduce the first 3 Axies ever born: Puff Puff is the first Axie ever created. He s rumored to be the result of a failed experiment to create a Dragon. With 3 Katanas protruding from his body, this Axie has no need for a tail. Ginger Ginger is an Aquatic Axie that uses its powerful fin and gills to catch its prey. Ginger also has her own pet fish that s believed to have special abilities in battle. 9

More interactions will be added as we gather feedback from our early adopters. Axies will be able to power up through daily quests and activities. 14 3. ROADMAP AND FUTURE PLANS 3.1 Roadmap February 16, 2018 April 16, 2018: The pre-sale event where players can adopt adult origin Axies. These Axies have a chance to obtain Mystic parts that will never be released again. Mid-March 2018 Version 1.0 The release of breeding features and a marketplace. New classes and traits will be released periodically. Early April 2018 Players will be able to raise their Axies and play at least one mini-game. Version 2.1: Terrariums will be on sale. Version 3.0: Items to decorate and enhance terrariums will go live. Version 4.0: Quests and our combat system will be released. 13

15 3.2 Long-term plans 1. We plan on creating an engaging turn-based combat mode that will encourage competitive Axie battles. 2. Accepting Fiat Currencies to lower the barrier of entry into the game. 3. Utilizing side-chains to improve user-experience. 4. We are looking to partner with leading crypto influencers and artists. 16 4. DEVELOPMENT TEAM Trung Nguyen Lead Programmer Trung is a tech entrepreneur and CTO of Lozi, a VC-backed startup in Vietnam. Trung enjoys product design and developing difficult projects. He s an avid gamer, having played real-time strategy (RTS) and Massive Online Battle Arena (MOBA) games online for 15 years. Tu Doan Art Director, Game Designer Tu has been designing games since he was a child. He started with card games and graduated to making Video games at the age of 13. He s a competitive Pokemon player and we ve entrusted a lot of the battle mechanics and game design to him. Tu has a passion for magical creatures and doodling that has been unleashed through Axie Infinity. 15
