1 CHUCK E. CHEESE S MATCH GAME PLAYING THE GAME Chuck E. Cheese s Match Game is a memory match game for one player. The player is shown nine curtains which reveal five different characters: Chuck E. Cheese, Helen Henny, Jasper T. Jowls, Mr. Munch, and Pasqually. The Player then is asked to remember where each character was. The more characters the player correctly finds, the more tickets the game will give out. No penalty is imposed for incorrect guesses but the player only has a limited amount of time to find them all. A timer in the shape of a pizza at the upper left corner of the screen shows how much time is left. The various characters take slices from the pizza; when all the slices are gone the game is over. DISPENSING TICKETS The game is equipped with a ticket dispenser which dispenses tickets based on the number of characters the player matches. If the game runs out of tickets a message comes on the screen to call the attendant. When this happens, simply insert a new stack of tickets into the ticket bin and dispenser and about two seconds later the message will go away and the game will dispense the remainder of the player s tickets. TEST MENUS From the test menus you can read and reset the audits, make adjustments, and test various parts of the game to verify that they are working correctly. Press the TEST Button to enter the test menus. The first menu you will see looks like this: Main Menu Audits Adjustments Diagnostics Return To Game One line will be highlighted in red. To move between menu options press the 2 and the 8 buttons on the control panel. To select an item press the center button, 5, on the control panel.

2 AUDITS The audits menu allows you to view the period and lifetime audits for the game. It also allows you to clear the period audits. It s screen looks like this: Audits Lifetime Period Coins Left : 7 0 Right : 5 2 Total : 12 2 Tickets Total : Average : 7 10 Game Played : 15 2 Clear Period Audits Lifetime audits are non-resettable and accumulate continuously. Period audits can be reset to zero as described below. Average tickets per game is calculated by dividing the total number of tickets by the number of games played. The two mechanical counters count total coins and total tickets. The only options are Clear Period Audits and. If you highlight Clear Period Audits and press 5 on the control panel, the period audits will all be reset to zero. Select to return to the main menu.

3 ADJUSTMENTS The adjustments menus allow you to change various settings in the game. Again, use the 2, 8, and 5 buttons on the control panel to move up, down, and select menu items. The adjustments menu looks like this: Adjustments Attract Mode Sounds Sound Volume Ticket Payouts / Credits Game Time Curtain Mode 2 Restore Factory Settings Each of these items is described below. Selecting Attract Mode Sounds brings up a screen which looks like this: Attract Mode Sounds Every Cycle Every 2 Cycles Every 3 Cycles Every 5 Cycles * Never * The asterisks indicate the current setting. If sounds are desired during attract mode, use the 2 and 8 buttons to highlight the desired setting and press 5 to select. If you select Every Cycle, sounds will be played during every attract cycle. If you select Every 2 Cycles, the sound will only be played every other cycle, and so on. Select to return to the adjustments menu.

4 Selecting Sound Volume goes to a screen like this: Adjust Sound Volume Use + and to adjust volume. Press center button to exit. The bar shows the current volume setting. Left is softer, right is louder. You can adjust the volume at any time by pressing the volume up and volume down buttons behind the coin door, or you can adjust it from here by pressing the 2 and 8 buttons on the control panel. 2 is louder, 8 is softer. The theme music will play during this screen so you know how loud it will be. Press 5 when you are done to return to the adjustments menu.

5 To adjust the ticket awards or the number of coins required per credit, select the Ticket Payouts / Credits menu, and you will see a screen like this: Ticket Payouts / Credits Tickets : No Matches 1 Tickets : 1 Match 2 Tickets : 2 Matches 3 Tickets : 3 Matches 4 Tickets : 4 Matches 5 Tickets : 5 Matches 10 Coins Per Credit 1 COINS PER CREDIT = 0 FOR FREE PLAY FREE PLAY DISABLES TICKET DISPENSER This screen shows you how many tickets will be awarded for a particular number of matches. To change the number of tickets awarded for a particular number of matches use the 2 and 8 buttons to highlight the desired number of matches and then press the 5 button. The number of tickets will be highlighted. Press the 2 and 8 buttons to adjust the number of tickets up and down. Then, press the 5 button when you are done to store the setting. Do this for any ticket level you wish to change. Use the same technique to adjust the number of coins required for one credit. If you set the number of coins per credit to zero, the game goes into free play. In free play, press any button on the control panel to start the game. No tickets are dispensed when the game is in free play. Select to return to the adjustments menu.

6 The difficulty of the game is set by adjusting the time the player has to match all of the characters. Select the Game Time menu and you will see a screen like this: Game Time 20 Seconds 25 Seconds 30 Seconds 35 Seconds 40 Seconds * 45 Seconds * 50 Seconds 55 Seconds 60 Seconds The default game time is 45 seconds. The current setting is indicated by the two asterisks. To change the game time, use the 2 and 8 buttons to highlight the desired game time and press 5 to change the setting. The asterisks will move to the new game time. Select to return to the adjustments menu. The Curtain Mode function controls the method used for revealing the characters at the start of the game. This changes the difficulty of the game. It has three modes numbered 0, 1 and 2. You can change the mode by highlighting the Curtain Mode item and pressing the 5 button repeatedly to select the desired mode. The modes work as follows: Curtain Mode 0: All characters are revealed at once. Curtain Mode 1: Three characters are revealed at a time. Curtain Mode 2: Randomly reveals either all characters at once, three at a time, or two at a time.

7 To restore all of the adjustments to their factory defaults select the Restore Factory Settings item. You ll see a screen like this: Restore Factory Settings Coins Per Credit = 1 Attract Sounds = 0 Game Time = 45 Tickets : No Matches = 1 Tickets : 1 Match = 2 Tickets : 2 Matches = 3 Tickets : 3 Matches = 4 Tickets : 4 Matches = 5 Tickets : 5 Matches = 10 Curtain Mode = 2 Press test button to accept. Press center button to cancel. This shows what each of the factory defaults are. If you really want to reset all of the adjustments to these defaults, press the TEST button. If you don t, press the 5 button to return to the adjustments menu without changing anything.

8 DIAGNOSTICS The diagnostics menu allows you to test the function of a variety of aspects of the game. The diagnostics menu looks like this: Diagnostics RAM Test Program ROM Test Switch Test Lamp Test Monitor Adjust Inspect Graphics ROMs Sound Test Dispense A Ticket To run a particular test, use the 2 and 8 buttons to highlight the desired test and press 5 to execute it. The RAM Test checks the two static RAMs on the main video board (U105 and U106). If this test fails, it could indicate a problem with either of these parts or the board itself. The Program ROM Test checks to make sure the two Program ROMs on the main video board (U103 and U104) are okay. If this test fails they may need to be replaced. The Switch Test allows you to test each of the switches used in the game. The name of each switch will appear on the screen next to the word ON. If a switch is closed, the word ON next to it will be highlighted. Press each switch individually to make sure that they all work and that no two are shorted together. If any switch, when closed, fails to cause the word ON next to its name to light, then either the switch is bad, the wiring is bad, or the video board itself is not working correctly. The Lamp Test turns each of the lamps on the control panel on in sequence, from 1 to 9. Each lamp should light, and only one lamp should be on at a time. The screen will show the number and position of each lamp as it is turned on. If none of the lamps come on, check the lamp driver board.

9 Select Monitor Adjust to adjust the colors, hold, and position on your monitor. You ll see a set of white boxes and a red, green, and blue color bar. Inspect Graphics ROMs allows you to view all of the artwork used in the game. You ll first see an overview of the entire graphics space. Only three ROMs are used in the game (U123, U125, and U127), so the rest of the space should show up as white. Press the 5 button to get a closer look at the graphics. Press 2, 8, 4, and 6 to scroll around in the space. Some of the colors will not appear correct; this is normal for this test. Press 5 to return to the diagnostics menu. The Sound Test allows you to listen to all of the sounds used in the game. Use the 2 and 8 buttons to change sound codes. Sound code 4 will play all of the sounds; this is what it will do when you first enter the Sound Test. Press 5 to return to the diagnostics menu. Select Dispense A Ticket to test the ticket dispenser. Each time you select this by pressing the 5 button, the ticket dispenser will try to give out one ticket.
