2 PharmaCollegē New Player Guide Getting Started Access to the DeVry Play Game Portal: Direct your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) to: games.chamberlain.edu Enter your nine-digit D# (i.e. D ) and network password. Click Log in 1. Once logged in, students will be defaulted to their PLAYGROUND page. Faculty will be defaulted to their DASHBOARD page. 2. At the top will be a section, Games from my Classes which displays any games you have been enrolled in as a student. It is important that you always initiate play from this area for any game where you would like your progress to be tracked and your grade reported

3 3. Before playing for the first time you will need to install the Unity Web Player. Instructions for installing this for Firefox can be found here: Instructions for installing in Internet Explorer are similar. We do NOT recommend running the game on Chrome or Safari. 4. Once installed, the Unity loading page and then the Start Screen for the game will appear:

4 LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!! PharmaCollege 3.0 is a game that offers students a safe environment to learn and gain experience in medication administration. Students are able to make mistakes and then go back and do the process correctly without causing harm to patients. Experience with the skills of medication administration will help students gain confidence. This offers students experience and practice along with repetitive actions to create good habits. 1. Click Start to begin playing the game. 2. The game s home screen looks like a student study room:

5 a. Character Customization & Store: Explore the closet (the double doors to your left) by scrolling over it and clicking to reveal the Character options and the game store. (More on the game store later). Here you can select the specifications for your avatar: Gender, Hair Style, Physical Features and Clothing Color. Click the Home icon (twice) in the upper right hand corner to return home. b. Explore the book shelf by clicking anywhere on the shelf. There you will receive a pop-up window to access a patient guide and a link to a medical drug guide.

6 c. By clicking on the calendar, you will access the levels (UNITS) for the game: Clicking on the Calendar will launch the game to the latest available unit.

7 Unit 1 through Unit 7: Each Unit has 5 Shifts, a Quiz and an Extra Shift. Each Unit that is unlocked (as long as it meets / is over the open date) will unlock its own Shift 1 automatically, Shifts 2 to 5 of that Unit will be unlocked in sequence as the player gets at least 1 Heart on the previous Shift. Click of the unlock Shift to begin 3. Select the level of difficulty Units and Shifts may be played at Easy / Medium / or Hard play levels. Easy, Medium, Hard relate to the amount of time allotted between patients, and services. Start with playing on Easy and then see how you do as you progress through a Unit by replaying the Unit on Medium and Hard settings.

8 4. Tutorial videos will pop-up when something new happens, pausing the game to explain what is going on. After watching the video, click the Close/ Continue button. ADDITIONAL VIDEO TUTORIALS All video tutorials are located under the question mark symbol?. ***Each red tab below has a video that gives an overview of that particular topic*** These videos can be accessed at any time during game play!!! Gameplay PharmaCollegē is designed to be played in Unit order. Each Unit has 5 shifts, the only difference between the shifts are the medications/diagnosis. Each shift gets increasingly more complex, so Shift 2 of Unit 2 will have all the medications and diagnosis from Shift 1 and more, Shift 3 (from Unit 2) will have all information from Shift 2 and 1 (from Unit 2) as well as its own medications/diagnosis. Unit 7 (the final one) is a bit different though, Unit 7 Shift 1 has all the medications/diagnosis from Units 1-6 (Shift 1 only), Unit 7 Shift 2 has all the

9 medications/diagnosis from Modules 1-6 (Shifts 2 + 1), Unit 8 Shift 3, 4 and 5 will basically have all of the medications/diagnosis available in the game. Unit 8. Unit 9 is a Required Uniform Assignment (RUA) and will be accessible throughout the game. The shifts in the units are rated by hearts instead of percentage, it considers the player passed that shift if they get at least 1 heart. The hearts are as follows: Heart 1 - If the player has achieved 80% or more of correct actions (example: if a player does 50 right actions and 5 wrong actions throughout the game then the player has done 50/(50+5) = 50/55 = ~91% right actions) Heart 2 - If the player finished the shift in a timely manner, this is affected by the difficulty of the shift and the number of patients. The formula being used is as follows: On easy difficulty it's 3 patients times 72 seconds = 3 minutes and 36 seconds, on medium difficulty it's 6 patients times 60 seconds = 6 minutes and on hard difficulty that's 12 patients times 40 seconds = 8 minutes Heart 3 - If the player attended correctly to at least 1 patient, so if the player finishes the shift in easy mode with 2 patients "dead" and 1 correctly discharged they'll get this heart, but they'll also get it if they correctly attended to all 3 patients, etc... As for the percentage in the Units menu, that represents how much of the unit is complete based on hearts. So each unit (save for unit 1 which only has 3 hearts) has 5 shifts, 1 quiz and 1 extra shift, each of these has 3 hearts so that's 7 x 3 = 21 hearts per Unit from 2-8, and 3 hearts for Unit 1, making a total of 150 hearts. So, for example if I have 8 hearts in Unit 1 I'll have completed 8/21 or ~38% of the Unit. Good Luck!! 5. Your shift will begin by assigning the patient to an empty bed

10 STARTING YOUR SHIFT 1. Assign your patient to an empty bed 2. The patient will inform you of their illness

11 3. Review the medications order for your patient 4. Select the correct medication and quantity in the MedCart.

12 5. Make sure you're administering the medication to the right patient by checking their ID. 6. Review your patient's profile to make sure he/she doesn't have any allergies that prevent you from administering the medication.

13 7. Sometimes questions will pop-up related to the medication and/or the diagnosis for this patient. 8. Before administering the medication but only after checking the patient ID, you'll be able to check your patient's vitals and decide if you should hold or give the medication.

14 9. When giving the medication, questions related to it may pop-up at times. 10. Your patient's medication progress bar will fill with a yellow color, once it turns green you may check the patient ID again and then check their vitals once more before discharging them.

15 11. If the progress bar turns red, it means that patient is having a side-effect or an adverse reaction, you'll need to attend to this patient as fast as possible to either provide comfort (side-effect) or call the doctor (adverse reaction) 12. After successfully discharging a patient, you'll need to provide patient education related to the medication in question.
