Chapter 7 MONEY A In Australia we use ecimal currency. We use 5-cent, 10-cent, 20-cent, 50-cent, 1 ollar an 2 ollar coins. A ollar sign is written like this, so we write 1 ollar as 1, an 2 ollars as 2. Currency is the money in use. MONEY 100 cents =1ollar These are the coins that we use. 5 cents = of these make 1. of a ollar or 0: cents = 100 cents = 1 10 cents = of these make 1. of a ollar or 0: cents = 100 cents = 1 20 cents = of a ollar or 0: cents = 100 cents = 1 5 of these make cents = of these make 1. of a ollar or 0: cents = 100 cents = 1 1 ollar = 100 cents 2 ollars = 200 cents We also use 5, 10, 20, 50 an 100 notes. When we write an amount of money using numbers, we write number of ollars ecimal point number of cents For example, 20:45 20:45 reas twenty ollars forty five cents. Notice that we write 20 cents as 0:20 zero ollars twenty cents We always write two numbers after the ecimal point.

MONEY (Chapter 7) 97 B ADDING AND SUBTRACTING WITH MONEY ADDITION Example To calculate 85 cents +65cents we can o So, 85 cents +65cents = 150 cents = 100 cents +50cents = 1:50 fas 100 cents = 1g or we write 85 cents = 0:85 an 65 cents = 0: : 85 0 : 65 1 : 50 So 85 cents +65cents = 1:50 line up the ecimal points EXERCISE 7B 1 These are school stationery items. 65 cents 25 cents Fin the cost of a b c e f g 40 cents 35 cents Example a pencil an an eraser 0 : 25 pencil a pencil an a biro + 0 : 80 scissors a pair of scissors an an eraser 1 : 05 a pair of scissors an a roll of sticky tape a pencil, an eraser an a biro one of each of the items. List the prices of the items from most expensive to cheapest (escening orer). 80 cents Example To fin the cost of a CD at 16:75 an a book at 23:40, we write these amounts one uner the other with the ecimal points line up, then a : 75 CD + 23: 40 book 40: 15 The total is 40:15: 2 Ricky buys a loaf of brea costing 1:85 an a can of tuna costing 2:95. How much oes he pay in total? 3 Sarah buys a pair of pliers costing 24:95 an a spanner set costing 39:50. Fin the total of her purchases.

98 MONEY (Chapter 7) 4 Megan is getting reay to start the new school year. Here are some items that she nees. 2: 35 24:50 3: :50 14:95 Do not forget to write the amounts with the ecimal points line up. Fin the cost of a a b c e f Polo shirt an a pair of shorts sports bottle an a lunch box pair of school shoes an a pair of socks pair of joggers an a backpack pair of school shoes, a pair of joggers an two pairs of socks. List the prices of the items in orer from cheapest to most expensive (ascening orer). 39:95 2: 75 Example 10: : 50 22: 50 Polo shirt shorts 5 6 Mia, age 9, an her mother went to the theatre. The tickets cost 5590 : for aults an 2995 : for chilren. Fin the cost of their tickets. Taylor bought a personal CD-player for 39: 95 an two CDs at 20: 85 each. What was the total of these purchases? SUBTRACTION To subtract one amount from another, we write the amounts one uner the other with the larger number on top, an the ecimal points line up. Then we subtract. For example, to fin 4:15 1: : 15 1 : 40 2 : 75 7 Calculate a 0:95 0:55 b 1:85 0:90 c 2:50 1:45 3:45 2:05 e 10:00 3:25 f 12:75 4:80 g 25:00 17:35 h 30:00 12:60 i 49:30 8:25 j 56:50 18:80 k 68:35 34:10 l 95:40 56:85 8 Calculate the answers. You may be able to o them mentally. a 80 cents 40 cents b 75 cents 15 cents 70 cents 35 cents e 1 50 cents g 2 90 cents h 2 1:40 j 4:60 2 k 1:90 50 cents c 95 cents 60 cents f 1 65 cents i 2:30 1 l 3:15 1:10

MONEY (Chapter 7) 99 9 Tamara ha 95 cents. She bought a roll of sticky tape costing 65 cents. How much money i she have left to spen? 10 Lleyton ha 1:20. He bought a pair of scissors costing 80 cents. How much of his money remaine? 11 Martina ha 2 an bought an icecream costing 1:80. How much money remaine? 12 Karam bought a sala sanwich costing 2:35. If he ha 2:85 to pay for lunch, how much money was left? 13 Mohamme ha a 5 note. When he pai 1:80 for a bus ticket, how much change was he given? 14 Kwan ha 25. If he spent 19: 95 on a DVD, how much of his money remaine? 15 Kristy ha a 50 note. If she bought a sports bag costing 35:50, how much change i she receive? 16 How much change woul Cathy receive if she bought a pair of sanals costing 44:95 an pai for them using three 20 notes? 17 John spent 65:60 at the supermarket. If he tenere (gave) a 100 note, how much change i he receive? 18 Stavros compare two computer games price at 39:95 an 58:85. What was the ifference in their prices? C CALCULATING CHANGE We have alreay use subtraction to fin the amount of change given. For example, if Ming-na pai 8 to have her bicycle tyre repaire an tenere a 10 note, she woul receive 10 8 =2 change. Here is another way of calculating change. AMOUNTS LESS THAN 1 Start with the cost of the item then choose coins to buil the amount to 1 ollar. Start with the smallest coins first. For example, if the item cost 35 cents, start with 0:35 a 5 cents to give 0:40 a 10 cents to give 0:50 a 50 cents to give 1:00 the change is 0:05 0:10 a 0:50 0:65

100 MONEY (Chapter 7) EXERCISE 7C 1 Copy an complete the working to fin the change from 1 ollar. a 70 cents b 55 cents c 25 cents 0:70 0:80 1:00 0:10 0:55 0:60 1:00 0:05 0:25 0:30 2 Fin the change from 1 ollar if these amounts are spent. a 50 cents b 65 cents c 95 cents 10 cents e 5 cents f 45 cents g 15 cents h 75 cents AMOUNTS MORE THAN 1 Start with the cost of the item then fin ² the number of cents to make the next whole ollar then ² the number of ollars to make the amount tenere. This will be easy if you can fin change from 1 quickly. For example, if Lisa gave 10 to pay for a magazine costing 3:25, start with 3:25 a 75 cents to make the next whole ollar 4:00 a 6 to make the amount tenere 10:00 the change is 0:75 6:00 6:75 a 3 Copy an complete the working shown to fin the change from 2 if these amounts are spent. a 1:55 b 1:20 c 85 cents 1:55 2:00 1:20 2:00 0:85 1:00 2:00 4 Copy an complete the working shown to fin the change from 5 if these amounts are spent. a 3:50 b 2:25 c 65 cents 3:50 4:00 5:00 2:25 3:00 0:65 1:00 5 Fin the change from 10 when these amounts are spent. a 6:40 b 8:75 c 4:35 95 cents 6 Calculate the change given if you pay for a a box of tennis balls costing 8:25 with a 10 note b a bunch of flowers costing 12:50 with a 20 note

MONEY (Chapter 7) 101 c e f g h a CD costing 25:25 with a 20 an a 10 note a haircut costing 14:30 with a 20 note movie tickets costing 28:40 with two 20 notes a vet s bill of 37:45 for your cat, with a 50 note groceries costing 39:90 with a 50 note petrol costing 44:65 with a 50 note. D MULTIPLYING AND DIVIDING MULTIPLYING MONEY EXERCISE 7D 1 Fin a 3 2 b 4 7 c e 9 3 f 2 12 g 7 10 h 8 9 Example To fin the total cost of 6 items at 85 cents each, we fin 85 6 = 510 cents = 500 cents +10cents = 5: The is often use instea of the wor at when we are fining costs. 2 Fin the cost of a 3 30 cents each b 5 15 cents each c 2 45 cents each 8 chocolate 70 cents each e 6 raspberry 25 cents each f 9 65 cents each. Example Matthew wants to buy 3 nut bars costing 1:15 each. To fin the total cost he can ² a 3 lots of 1:15 1 : 15 1 : 15 1 : 15 3 : 45 or ² multiply 1:15 by : : 45 The total cost is 3:45. The multiplication is the same as it is for whole numbers, but the ecimal point must be kept in the same place in the answer as it is in the question.

102 MONEY (Chapter 7) You can check your answers to multiplications by fining an approximate answer first. Matthew works out an approximate answer like this. 1:15 is close to 1 So 3 1:15 is approximately 3 1 or 3: The cost of the nut bars will be approximately 3. 3 Fin a 3 1:30 e 7 2:50 i 5 12:55 b 5 2:10 f 3:35 4 j 3 32:85 c 8 1:15 g 2 14:60 k 4 15:95 2:05 6 h 3 21:10 l 9: Fin the cost of a b c e f g 4 bottles of 2:25 each 3 1:95 each 7 bus 1:45 each 4 games of 6:50 each 8 11:80 each 3 21:95 each 6 kilograms of 12:45 per kilogram. DIVIDING MONEY For amounts of money with ollars an cents, we can write the amount as cents, then ivie. For example, 8:85 = 885 cents so 8:85 3 = = 295 cents = 2: or We can ivie ecimal numbers in the same way as whole numbers. We keep the ecimal point in the same place in the answer as it is in the question. For example, 25:25 5 = 5:05 5 : : 25 5 Write each amount as cents, then ivie. a 90 cents 3 0:95 5 g 6:95 5 b 30 cents 2 e 1:20 4 h 6 4 c 55 cents 5 f 8:40 8 i 2: Fin a 3 15:30 52:80 4 b 5 45:20 e 89:95 7 c 9 63:45 f 80: a Fin half of 90 cents. b Sam an Joe each receive half of 1:50. How much oes each boy get? c 3 kilograms of apples cost 7:35. Fin the cost of 1 kilogram of apples.

MONEY (Chapter 7) 103 e f 7 bags of chips cost 13: 65. How much oes 1 bag cost? 5 chilren s tickets to the Swimming Centre cost 21. How much oes 1 ticket cost? 4 pairs of sneakers cost 87:80. Fin the cost of 1 pair of sneakers. E ROUNDING TO THE NEAREST 5 CENTS When your parents fill their car with petrol, look at the amount to be pai shown on the petrol pump. It oes not always en in 0 or 5. How o we pay cash for an amount like 34:56 or 21:12 when the smallest coin is a 5 cent piece? We have to roun the amount to the nearest 5 cents. The amount will then en in 0 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents, 15 cents, 20 cents, 25 cents,... EXERCISE 7E 1 Choose the amount of money in brackets that is nearer to the amount given. For example, 1:46 (1:45, 1:50). 1:45 is nearer to 1:46 than 1:50, so choose 1:45: a 23 cents (20 cents, 25 cents) b 82 cents (80 cents, 85 cents) c 79 cents (75 cents, 80 cents) 36 cents (35 cents, 40 cents) e 1:14 (1:10, 1:15) f 1:87 (1:85, 1:90) g 2:58 (2:55, 2:60) h 3:41 (3:40, 3:45) i 21:33 (21:30, 21:35) j 45:99 (45:95, 46:00) Have you notice that: Amounts ening in 1 cent or 2 cents roun own. Amounts ening in 3 cents or 4 cents roun up to 5 cents. Amounts ening in 6 cents or 7 cents roun own to 5 cents. Amounts ening in 8 cents or 9 cents roun up. So 23 cents roune up to 25 cents 82 cents roune own to 80 cents 79 cents roune up to 80 cents 36 cents roune own to 35 cents. 2 Roun to the nearest 5 cents. a 87 cents b 99 cents c 1:12 2:14 e 4:68 f 7:92 g 10:39 h 17:45 i 22:21 j 58:96 k 43:87 l 69:53

She gave the shop assistant 2:50. a How much i Frances pay for the apples? b How much change i Frances receive? 6 When Mario fille his car with petrol, the cost shown at the petrol pump was 38:69. Mario gave the attenant two 20 notes. a How much was Mario charge? b How much change i Mario receive? F USING A CALCULATOR We can use a calculator to a, subtract, multiply an ivie. Answer To fin 56: :20 press :05 To fin 82:10 27:45 press = 54:65 To fin 27:55 3 press = 82:65 To fin 97:50 3 press :50 Sometimes we o several operations one after the other. For example, a movie ticket costs 8:95 for an ault an 5:60 for a chil. Fin the cost of tickets for 3 chilren an 1 ault. Cost = 3 5:60 + 8:95 cost for 3 chilren cost for 1 ault press Answer 25:75 So the cost is 25:75. EXERCISE 7F 3 = Use a calculator to solve these problems. 1 Fin the total of this grocery bill. 1 packet of 4:95 1 jar of 9:95 1 block of 5:45 1 bag of og 14:25 4 loaves of 2:35 each + = 3 = Remember, when writing money as ecimals, write two igits after the ecimal point.
