1 Task sheet Write or perform an original piece of music that captures the diversity of London With its multicultural character, London s music scene is a rich mix of styles, from hip-hop and reggae through to opera. With the influence of music from different cultures, London is a great city in which to explore new sounds. So what s your London sound? London without limits In the spirit of London s culture of diversity, this task has no limits set on the instruments you can use or the type of music you can produce. London s multicultural nature can be reflected in your choice of music, lyrics or your performance of the piece. The most important thing is that it is your own piece of work. You can work on your own or with others You can work with others on this task but don t be afraid to go solo. If you do choose to work with others, please clearly state who they are and how they contributed to the final composition. Even if it s just a recording of yourself singing, if you can demonstrate that you have thought about London in your song, you definitely stand a chance of winning. How to enter You can perform and record your music live, use a computerised music production package to compile your tune or simply write it down as a score notation. However, you must comply with the following criteria: Your piece of music must contain all of the following: lyrics, melody and accompaniment (this can include any combination of instruments and/or a computer-sequenced backing/ vocal track). You must provide a written overview (one side of A4) of how you developed your song and why you think it fits the brief. Please submit your entry by one, or a combination of the following formats only: Printed score notation. Lead sheet (including the lyrics, melody and basic chord symbols). Recording: audio CD, MP3 CD, mini disc.

3 Task sheet Create a storyboard for a three-minute film promoting the talents of your students Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is changing the way we live, the way we work and even the way we plan our weekend! ICT helps connect people from street to street, city to city, continent to continent, and plays a big role in London life. How would you use ICT to plan a short film about the talent at your school? Think about the group you want to target For this task, we are asking you to think about the talents of your friends and fellow students at your school. Does your school have a budding footy star, prima ballerina or a chess champion, for example? Gain inspiration from the different skills you witness around school and create a storyboard for a three-minute film that promotes what your school has to offer, and shows off the talents of its students. How to enter This task is about demonstrating how you would sell your school through the medium of film. Step 1 Draft the script for your film. For a three-minute film, you should look at drafting approximately three to four A4 pages of script. Step 2 Translate your script to a storyboard. Your storyboard should be hand drawn or applied using a computer package. Think about communicating it comic book style with images and a small amount of text describing each frame. Please see below for an example of how a storyboard should look: Please submit both your script and storyboard. The winning storyboard will be brought to life, so make sure you feature individuals who are happy to be filmed.

5 Task sheet Develop an idea that demonstrates how you could make your school a greener place to be. Explain the positive impact these changes will have on school resources and the wider environment The environment and climate change are becoming major global issues. As a capital city, London must take a lead in implementing environmentally friendly practices, and what better place to start than at school? Maybe you already try to help the environment by recycling paper at school or using your bike instead of getting in a car. Now it s time to be creative what would make your school a greener place to be? The winning entry will be unique, imaginative and practical. Take a look around you The first part of this task requires you take a good look at your school and decide how it could work better to save energy and help the environment. Think about how you could increase recycling, encourage people to turn off lights or reduce littering anything that would help to minimise harm to the world around you. Consider renewable energy sources such as the sun and wind. Could your school use these in some way? Look at other technologies and how they could be used to make your school a greener place. How to enter Entries should be submitted in the form of a report that s no more than 1,000 words long. You don t have to put your idea into practice just write clearly about how it could be implemented at your school. Include visuals and diagrams too, if this helps your explanation.

K. Rowling s universally popular Harry Potter stories. Here s your opportunity to make your mark on London s literature scene. Use your imagination What does the future hold for me? We ve all asked ourselves this question and made plans for our future. Your time at school helps you to shape your ambitions and dreams. For this task, write a synopsis for your own autobiography that tells the story of who and where you think you might be 10 years from now. Will you be a fashion designer on Bond Street, a West End actor, or an overseas traveller, for example? How to enter Your synopsis should be a minimum of 500 words and no longer than 1,000. It should be easy to read it doesn t need to be typed up on a computer but make sure your writing is clear if your entry is written by hand. Make sure you write this as if you were the editor of your autobiography, in the third person. For an example of text written like this, please find a snippet taken from Daniel Craig s autobiography synopsis, to help you: This fascinating and affectionate book reveals everything about Britain s favourite leading man: how he endured poverty-stricken years when he was first struggling to make it as an actor in London; how he rejected the trivial publicity that came when he started to make a name for himself; his relationships, including his marriage to a British actress with whom he has a daughter; plus his encounters with Sienna Miller and Kate Moss and how he has handled the adulation that has come from his new role as 007.

How to enter Your final design should be no smaller than A4 and no larger than A3. Please include a development page that includes your notes and sketches. 11 Task sheet Write a play that celebrates your experience of London and includes two of your favourite Londoners London is full of drama from lavish West End theatre productions, street theatre performances in Covent Garden to avant-garde plays in small theatres across the city. If you could involve your favourite Londoners from the past or present day in your very own stage show, you d be spoilt for choice. Stars from Denise Van Outen to Daniel Radcliffe have trodden the boards of the London stage. Who would star in your play? What makes London unique? For this task, firstly think about what makes London appealing to you? Take in the sounds and sights of a day where you live. What day to day adventures are you involved in? Who and what inspires you in your daily routine? Use these experiences to create your play. Secondly, identify two famous London faces that you would want in your play. This is your chance to reach for the stars. They don t have to be actors you may wish to choose style icon, Kate Moss, football superstar, David Beckham or millionaire entrepreneur, Richard Branson the script is under your control. How to enter Your script should be no longer than five minutes long when read aloud and, whether typed or handwritten, must be written clearly. Be sure to mark the names of the character speaking next to their dialogue and include a list of your characters and the actors who would play them at the start of the script. As a general guide, one A4 page of dialogue amounts to approximately one minute of speech. The front page of the script should include the title of your piece and contain your full name, in case your entry is separated from your application form.
