DIS (JUNIOR), DWARKA SUMMER VACATIONS HOLIDAY HOMEWORK CLASS - KINDERGARTEN SESSION
Dear. Parents, We know you are looking f o r w a r d to spend some constructive time with your child during the summer vacation. Here are some of the fun-filled activities to utilize your valuable time. We hope that you enjoy doing each activity with the child and make the holidays fruitful and exciting! Some important things to learn Encourage your child to converse in English. Make them help in your daily household chores. Free play time should alternate with structured games to cultivate sportsmanship. Assign a permanent workplace and a work time. This brings in a system and discipline into the child s life. Reading out from colourfully illustrated storybook will develop their sight reading & vocabulary. Inculcate good manners, healthy eating habits & respect for others. We would appreciate if you could click photographs of your child and submit in Hard/ soft copies. The school will remain closed from 11 May 16 for summer vacations and will reopen on - 4 July 16
FUN UNDER THE SUN Dishons Chef- Beat the heat by Learning to make tasty summer drinks like- lemonade, lassi, milk shake, fruit smoothies or sherbats (Take help from your parents). Strawberry/Mango Parfait Activity Need a fun summer snack or a light breakfast? Take a pretty parfait glass and help your child create a simple A-B-A-B pattern as she layers strawberries/mango and yogurt. She/he won t even realize that she s /He s working on her/his ability to follow instructions and strengthening her/his fine motor skills at the same time! Parfait glasses Spoons Yogurt Strawberries/Mango, washed and cored Plastic knife Cutting board 1. Have your child start by slicing the strawberries/mangoes, using the cutting board and the plastic knife. 2. When she/he is done, it's time to start your parfait patterns. Have her/his spoon about an inch of yogurt into the bottom of the parfait glass. 3. Encourage her/his to top this with a one-inch thick layer of strawberry/mango slices. 4. Next comes another layer of yogurt and another layer of strawberry/mango slices. While your child works, discuss the A-B-A-B pattern that she's making with the ingredients. 5. Now, ask her/his to repeat steps 2 4 in each additional parfait glass, stopping to slice more strawberries/mangoes as needed. 6. When /he s all done, call the family into the kitchen to enjoy these picture-perfect parfaits! Here's an idea she's! Make the project a bit more complex by adding another type of fruit. A can of mandarin oranges, diced kiwi, or slivers of cantaloupe will enable your child to create an A-B-C pattern with layers of yogurt, strawberries, and the additional extra.
Opt for any two activities CONSTRUCT A KID SIZE CARDBOARD CASTLE ACTIVITY What kid doesn't love building forts and hide-away in the family room out of furniture and a few strategically-placed sheets and couch cushions? Help your little builder move up in the world by constructing a cardboard castle that's just the right size for him (and a couple stuffed animal subjects). Bright, spacious, and even eco-friendly, these accommodations are definitely fit for a king... and they work essential measuring skills, too! Large cardboard waste box such as a used carton (waste material-if you don't already have one, ask for one at your local appliance shop. Chances are they'll be more than willing to let you have one.) Marker Yardstick Box cutter Paint Large paint brush or paint roller Twine or rope Hole punch 1. Start by cutting off the top flaps of the box with the box cutter. Parent only! 2. Get your child to help you draw lines along the top of the box. Use the ruler (he'll get practice watching you!) and mark out a place every 4-5" inches. These will form the shape of castle ramparts. 3. Once the notch pattern is drawn, carefully use the box cutter to cut out the notches. 4. Now have your child draw a rectangle (or thereabouts!) with the marker where he wants the drawbridge to be. Make sure it's large enough for him to crawl through. 5. Carefully cut out the top and sides of the drawbridge with the box cutter. Leave the bottom intact so you can open and close it. 6. If your child wants, cut out some windows for the castle in the sides and back of the cardboard box. Be sure not to make the windows too large; too-big windows can make the castle less sturdy. If the castle starts to get floppy, you can repair it by duct taping a wooden dowel or a long strip of folded cardboard to the inside. 7. Now it's time to paint the castle. Invite him to paint the sides of the box with the paint you're using. Encourage him to be as creative with the paint as he likes. If he wants an authentic look, he can make the castle gray with painted-on stones. If he wants something a little more unorthodox, he can paint the castle in rainbow colors or paint big flowers on the sides. It's up to him! 8. To finish, punch two holes near the top corners of the drawbridge and two holes in the main walls next to where the drawbridge closes. Thread the twine through the holes and knot it to keep it in place. Now you have a working drawbridge that opens and closes.
Set up your kid size cardboard castle and let the pretend play begin! Every king (or queen) needs a crown, so why not fashion some regal head wear for your young royalty? Just cut out a crown from an empty cereal box and cover it with yellow construction paper PAPER PUMPKIN Celebrate the arrival of cool breezes and earlier sunsets by making some pumpkins. This 3-D paper pumpkin is the perfect adornment for any fall table. Your child will love making a variety of these colorful pumpkins to decorate for any and all fall festivities. Strips of cut A4 size pastel sheet, (8.5" x 1/2" or 1") 2 brads, or a mini stapler Green A4 size pastel sheet, Scissors Glue stick Pencil 1. Have your child lay out two strips of paper in an "X" pattern, overlapping them exactly at the center point. 2. Have her continue making additional "X" shapes with paper strips until she forms a starburst pattern. 3. Carefully poke a brad through the center of all of the strips of paper and splay it out to secure the strips in place, or staple the strips in place at the center. 4. She can now lift the strips up to create a pumpkin-like shape. Make sure the strips are saggy and bulgy in the center and all of the tops of the strips meet at the top. 5. Secure the top of the strips with either another brad, or a staple. 6. Cut off any additional paper that may be hanging off the top edge. 7. Have her take another strip of paper and cut it in half. 8. Staple, or glue it to the top of the pumpkin shape, from under the area where all of the paper is layered. 9. Have her pull the paper up and curl it into a straw shape with her fingers to create a pumpkin stem. Glue this long tube shape in place. 10. Draw and cut out two leaves from the green construction paper and glue them on either side of the stem. Let dry. 11. Set your paper pumpkin on a table, or attach it to a string and hang it from a tree or window. Make a Pull-Along Canister Train Activity Our child may have fallen in love with certain brand-name trains, but it's just as much fun to You re your child may have fallen in love with certain brand-name trains, but it's just as much fun to make your own train and a whole lot cheaper. Empty oatmeal canister Black construction paper/ A4 size pastel sheet, Pencil
Clear tape Cardboard Paper fasteners Small cardboard tube from a roll of paper towel Scissors Glue Nail String Permanent markers 1. Trace the lid of the canister on a piece of black paper. Cut out the circle and replace the lid. 2. Glue the circle to the bottom of the canister. 3. Wrap black paper around the whole canister, leaving the top uncovered, and secure with tape. 4. Cut four small circular wheels out of cardboard. 5. Punch a hole in the middle of each circle with the nail. Punch four holes in the canister: one a few inches from the top, one a few inches from the bottom, and two directly opposite those on the other side of the canister. 6. Use the paper fasteners to attach the wheels to the canister by inserting a fastener through the hole in the circle and then the hole in the canister. Repeat with remaining circles and fasteners. 7. Lie canister on its side. 8. Cut the bottom 1/3 of the cardboard tube and glue it to the top of the canister (now lying on its side) as a smokestack. 9. Draw a face on the lid of the canister, now the front of the train, using permanent marker. 10. Poke a hole in the lid, attach a string and knot it before replacing. You know have your own, homemade pull toy. Toot toot!
