1 CASE OF THE MYSTERIOUS MALADY CASEBOOK DAY ONE Today we began by forming ourselves into top-flight investigative teams. We tested our observational skills trained ourselves up to become the best possible investigators. We also learned how diseases are spread by simulating several types of disease transmission scenarios. Once we dispensed with the preliminaries, we go down to brass tacks and went to the Boarding House for Troublesome Employees to look for evidence. We also examined a few items the police collected. We reviewed all of the pertinent documents in the case some of which we found at the Boarding House and others gathered by the police. We also reviewed the surveillance photos we saw last night. Here is a rundown of what we found. Evidence Found at the Boarding House 1. Edna Leadfoot s Office Her Pen A Papermate Flair Letter of termination from the BDI lab where she worked Copy of GAGME Bioterror letter 2. Gladys Bedroom A Vial stolen from the BDI Lab w/ fingerprints (We swabbed inside the vial to look for bacteria.) Warning Letter from PSU Map to Althouse lab in trash List of pathogens from the BDI Lab Her Pen Sharpie 3. Dining Room A Letter from Fritz to Gladys expressing dislike for Donald McDonald. Vial #2 from the BDI lab w/ fingerprints We swabbed inside vial.

2 The Box from Grub For You was hidden in the back of the room Fingerprints were foundon table by the letter and on door jamb near the box. Evidence Collected by the Police 1. The Vial found near the Dining Commons wrapped in black cloth 2. Documents: GAGME letter sent to radio station and CDT Two conflicting Health Inspection Reports on Grub For You Letter to PSU from Donald McDonald complaining about Gladys 3. Donald McDonalds Office (items bagged from trash can): His pen Pilot G2 Love letter in trash can (from Gladys) Letter from PSU threatening contract termination (Assorted) catalogs from trash Surveillance Photo Review Results We have formulated a timeline of occurrences based upon the photos. Later on Fritz at commons Same vehicle seen Edna seen at commons Tampering w/ box At lab now at Commons Vial (wrapped in cloth) seen at Commons We re not yet sure of all of the implications, but we have definitely established the presence of several suspects in the case at the lab and the commons that fit a possible time line of events that include the theft from the BDI Lab and possible contamination of the food at the Commons. Of particular interest is the car in the photos, which is missing. Was it involved in either or both crimes? Can it be linked to one or more os the suspects? Further investigation awaits!

3 DOCUMENT ANALYSIS CONTENT We took a look at the documents that were collected during the initial investigation so far and see what possible interpretation can be placed on their importance. 1. The "GAGME" Letter Origin: Unknown Individual or group of individuals. Connection to the case: Claims responsibility for a "bioterror attack" that resulted in outbreak of Mystery Disease.
