What are you talking about? Do you live here? MARTHA: Yes. VERNE: Is this place the centre of the Earth? MARTHA: Hum.no. VERNE: But you said you are the housekeeper of the centre of the Earth MARTHA: Well, maybe. I m a little confused. VERNE: Why were you trying to kill me? MARTHA: I m sorry but I m the protector of the centre of the Earth. It s my duty to kill any intruders. VERNE: So this is the centre of the Earth. MARTHA: Yes. No, No I m still confused. VERNE: I need to find a manuscript. MARTHA: A manuscript? VERNE: Yes, the Saknussemm manuscript. Do you have any idea where I might find it? MARTHA: Oh, there is no such manuscript here. VERNE: Don t play dumb with me. I know it s here. MARTHA: I really don t know what you re talking about. VERNE: The Saknussemm manuscript! A manuscript which lies hidden in this place. Where is it? MARTHA: I don t know 14

16 TAPESCRIPT 01 Level 1 2 F. LISTEN&ANSWER OTTO (THE MASTER): My darling, how are you? ALDANA: Fine Is there an intruder here? OTTO: Yes. ALDANA: I felt his presence. OTTO: Verne. An adventurer, my dear. ALDANA: I see. OTTO: He s looking for The Saknussemm. ALDANA: Oh, is he? OTTO: Yes. ALDANA: What are we going to do? OTTO: Well, we are going to have dinner, of course. We will talk, we will laugh, and we will make him feel comfortable. And when our stomachs are full and our spirits high we shall enter a state of complete relaxation. And when he least expects it, we will attack him! ALDANA: Will we turn him into a zombie, too? OTTO: Oh yes, my dear, we will! ALDANA: Hmm, great. OTTO: Oh yes, and with Verne a zombie, we ll stay here in peace. ALDANA: Yes! OTTO: Yes! And then we ll turn every single person into a zombie. ALDANA: I love it OTTO: And I love you... 15

17 TAPESCRIPT 01 Level 2 3 F. LISTEN&CHOOSE OTTO (THE MASTER): So, Mr Verne Tell us about yourself. How did you come across this place? VERNE: Well, it all began in London, where I was doing some research on the centre of the Earth...and after months of studying, I discovered that there existed a manuscript called The Saknussemm. ALDANA: Please, carry on. VERNE: According to my research the manuscript lays hidden in the centre of the Earth, which also, according to my research is this place we are in right now. OTTO: Oh, what an imagination! And you also believe that zombies are real! Ha ha ha! VERNE: Yes, I do. ALDANA: And where are the zombies? VERNE: I don't know. Why don't you tell me? ALDANA: I think Mr Verne is trying to tell us something. OTTO: I believe he s accusing us of being zombies. ALDANA: Yes, I find it very offensive. OTTO: Mr Verne, I don't understand. I invite you into my home, I ask you to stay for dinner, I let you spend the night here and you repay me by accusing us of being something we are most definitely not, spitting out my wine and insulting my beloved woman. Now I don't know if this is how you treat all of your hosts but I certainly will not tolerate it. OTTO: Martha, Mr Verne has worn out his welcome. Suspend dinner, will you? MARTHA: Yes, master. OTTO: Let s go, Aldana. Verne, you may stay tonight, but I want you gone in the morning. 16

18 SONGS VERNE I dream with my eyes open, That s why I decided to come. My colleague got in trouble. For not being cautious enough. Science is made up of mistakes We could all agree on that. They will take us to the truth. If we follow the right clues. I m not worried about this adventure The unpredictable is quite fun. The Earth has revealed its centre Only to the bravest of us, To the bravest of us. I dream with my eyes open, That s why I decided to come. The Earth has revealed its centre Only to the bravest of us, To the bravest of us. 17

Cheer up, and be glad You re the best master I ve ever had. Love can turn your life around No matter what they say. If she s not the right one, just wait. True love is on its way. OTTO: Is it because I am old? Was my attitude ever cold? OTTO: Perhaps not, not evil enough? MARTHA: You re perfect, can t you see? OTTO & MARTHA: Love can turn your life around No matter what they say. If she s not the right one, just wait, True love is on its way. OTTO Yes it is. It s on its way! MARTHA If she s not the right one, just wait! OTTO & MARTHA: True love is on its way. MARTHA: Sir, don t worry about that. You re a zombie after all! OTTO: Is it because I am ugly? ALDANA: I don t want your life! I just want you to stop, If you let me talk to you, My weapon I ll drop. I ll drop! BOTH: No matter how hard you try, You ll never take me down. Never, never, take me down! 20
