1 WELCOME I created this 10-Day E-Course in spired by one of my favorite books, The Gifts of Imperfection, by Dr. Brene Brown. Training to be a Daring Way facilitator with Brene and her team back in 2012, was one of the most transformative professional and personal experiences I ve been through. Since becoming a certified facilitator, I have been leading life-changing retreats and helping my counseling clients implement these tools in their daily life. I wanted to find a way to share some of this work with folks who couldn t make it to one of my workshops- so I created this 10-day online course to help you apply this material at home. I encourage you to read the book along with each of these guideposts and keep these daily reflection and action tools with you as you implement these tools for wholehearted living. 2 Tips for Learning in the 10 Guideposts E-Course: Stay Open Our self-critic is one of the biggest hurdles to learning and changing. I can nearly guarantee you, it will try to get in your way in this course. Allow space for where your reflection activities take you. The more you can allow space for your thoughts without judgment or criticism, the more you can learn here. Stay Curious Without curiosity learning is impossible. Most often, limited thinking gets in the way of our learning in personal development. If you find yourself getting trapped by limited thinking ( I already know this, or this won t work for me ) try staying curious as a learner (reframe: how can I apply this in a new way or what if this did work for me ). Stay Committed Lots of folks sign up for free e-courses, which is an important first step, but few of them see the course the full way through. You signed up for this course because you want to see something change. If you want to make it happen, commit to taking small actions in this course. Set aside fifteen to thirty minutes each day to focus on these materials and stick with it. We ve only got ten days together- lets make them count.

Cultivate a Resilient Spirit Let go of numbing and powerlessness 4. Cultivate Gratitude and Joy Let go of scarcity 5. Cultivate Intuition and Trusting Faith Let go of the need for certainty 6. Cultivate Creativity Let go of comparison 7. Cultivate Play and Rest Let go of exhaustion as a status symbol and productivity as self-worth 8. Cultivate Calm and Stillness Let go of anxiety as a lifestyle 9. Cultivate Meaningful Work Let go of self-doubt and supposed to 10. Cultivate Laughter, Song, and Dance Let go of being cool and always in control

4 THREE DAILY GOALS Each day is broken into three focus areas, reflection, connection, and action. Reflection In the reflection activities we ll be drawing, writing, and meditating on each guidepost in our daily life. These self-awareness activities are all about connecting with your core truth. Connection In the connection activities we ll be focusing on deepening authentic relationships with the people we love. Use these activities to connect, empathize, and build trust. Action Finally, the action portion is about recreating habits and sustainable behaviors in your life to maintain a wholehearted life.

5 Guidepost 1: Cultivating Authenticity Letting Go of What People Think Reflection Where in my life am I most hung up on the opinions of others? Who s opinions are holding me back? What do I fear they believe? How do I feel when I believe these thoughts?

6 Connection Who can you count on to see you for your imperfections and still care about you? Take time today to reach out to them. Send some gratitude their way. Action Who would you be without the thoughts you write about in the reflection section? How would your life be different? List ten small action steps you could take today to move more in that direction. List one action step you are willing to commit to today:

7 Guidepost 2: Cultivating Self-Compassion Letting Go of Perfectionism Reflection Think about a time one of your friends or loved ones screwed up big time. What did they do? Who was impacted? What did you say to your friend in that situation? Now think of a time when you made a mistake. What did you do? Who did it impact?

8 Connection Who is your best role model for self-acceptance? Call them today and express your gratitude for their modeling. If they are unreachable write out what you would say. Action Draw a picture of yourself feeling powerful: Where and when do you feel most balanced in life? How can you spend 15 minutes more in that space this week? Mark your calendar and see it through.

9 Guidepost 3: Cultivating a Resilient Spirit Letting Go of Numbing & Powerlessness Reflection Draw a picture of yourself feeling powerful. Be sure to include details (location, clothing, supporters, props): Which numbing behaviors (caffeine, social media, laziness, drugs, exercise, sugar, sex, smoking, alcohol, etc) do you choose most often (keep you out of touch with your power)?

10 Connection Who is your resilience role model? Call them this week and share their impact on you. Ask them for their resilience secret. Action Commit to going 24 hours without one of your most frequent numbing behaviors and notice what shifts. List your chosen numbing technique and take notes on life without it below.

11 Guidepost 4: Cultivating Gratitude & Joy Letting Go of Scarcity & the Fear of the Dark Reflection When I let my mind wander into worry, here s where it goes: Make a note of what you feel in your body while focusing on worry:

12 Connection Fear, comparison, and scarcity like to create distance in relationships. Often at their root is a worry we ll lose something meaningful. When you notice fear, scarcity, or comparison showing up in your relationships with others, try on gratitude and appreciation. Getting in touch with the meaningful parts makes it possible to shift from distance into connection. Action Start a daily gratitude practice. For the next six days in this program list three things you are grateful for below (the more specific the better):

13 Guidepost 5: Cultivating Intuition & Trusting Faith Letting Go of the Need for Certainty Reflection I feel awe when I get inspired by. I don t know about.

14 Connection One time I felt a lot of trust in my relationship was. Now, share the story you wrote with your loved one. Be specific about the behaviors they shared that helped you increase trust. Action Notice the behaviors you listed that increased trust in your relationship. How can you more consistently build trust with yourself? Choose one of the trust-building behaviors and focus on building trust with yourself today. Note the impact below.

15 Guidepost 6: Cultivating Creativity Letting Go of Comparison Reflection What I learned about creativity growing up I think creativity is. When I think about creativity I feel...

16 Connection & Action List four creative activities you might be willing to try (remember creativity isn t only limited to the arts, lots of learning, innovation, dreaming, and making can be a part of creativity). If I developed a creative self, I would Choose one creative activity above to try this month with a friend or loved one. Call your special someone and invite them today. Commit to seeing it through together.

17 Guidepost 7: Cultivating Play & Rest Letting Go of Exhaustion as a Status Symbol & Productivity as SelfWorth Reflection I feel playful when When I am rested I I sabotage my own boundaries around self-care by

18 Connection Trying something new is one way to spark creativity and play. List ten new things you could try or learn with your partner below: Action Prioritize rest by setting clear expectations and boundaries. Take a break. Go to bed. Let others know rest is a value of yours. How can you see this through? One way I can commit to getting proper rest this week is:

19 Guidepost 8: Cultivating Calm & Stillness Letting Go of Anxiety as a Lifestyle Reflection What do you long for most? When you daydream where does your mind wander? I feel calm when

20 Connection Three specific ways my family/partner can support me living a calm life are Now ask your loved ones to support you by requesting one of the forms of support above. Action Follow through on requesting support above. Then choose one of the supports you need and find a way to give it to yourself.

21 Guidepost 9: Cultivating Meaningful Work Letting Go of Self-Doubt & Supposed to Reflection My passions are My purpose is. My heart is happiest when.

22 Connection Who do you know who is living their dream? Call them and find out how they got there today. Action How would your life be different if you lived according to your purpose and passions? What would you be doing different each day? Today try acting as if, meaning, acting as if you are living that life of your dreams. Go where you would go, where what you would wear, eat what you would eat. Try it out to the best of your ability. Take notes on what you notice below:

23 Guidepost 10: Cultivating Laughter, Song, & Dance Letting Go of Being Cool & Always in Control Reflection Make a list: what brings you joy? What one song always makes you move your body (list more if you have them)? What song always makes you sing along in the car alone (list multiple if you have them)?

24 Connection Who makes you most happy to be around? Make a list below: Now share with these folks the way they make your heart feel. Keep this practice up on a regular basis to focus on the positive relationships in your life. Action Now look up the songs you listed above. Find a private place and start a dance and singalong. Shake it out, dance proud, and sing loud. Grow your happiness playlist a little each week. Save it so you can use it to blow off steam at the end of long days, or perk yourself up on difficult mornings. Be sure you share the joy of these songs with others too- the larger and more loving the party the better!
