Please send us your questions and chsocratous@gcsc.ac.cy MEET OUR NEW SCHOOL LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR By Simos Schizas, 6 Green It s a thrill to introduce our school s new Library Administrator, Christiana Socratous. Christiana, who is now 24, holds a bachelor degree in Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, and speaks a range of foreign languages, including Spanish, Italian, and French. During her studies in Linguistics, she was a member of the British Library in London, where she spent countless hours studying. I NS IDE THI S ISSUE: Meet our new School Library 1 Administrator Best Selling Author Literature Nobel Prize 3 She has a keen interest in designing clothes, while she enjoys reading. She is fascinated by literature but also reads a lot about psycholinguistics. A word from Christiana herself: It is a charming challenge for me to encourage and inspire students to read more and explore a new, different world through books. 2 Best Selling Author By Maria Avraam and Chara Chavatzia of 2 Blue Jacqueline Wilson was born in Bath, England, She always 2 wanted to be a writer and wrote her first novel when she was Jaquline Wilson nine. She has won many awards including the Smarties Prize and Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. What is more, many of her books have been translated into 23 languages. A very important stage in her career is the fact that her books The Story of Tracy Caption describing picture or graphic. Beaker and Double Act were runners for the Carnegie Medal in Literature. A word from Jacqueline herself: " I want to write to every age group, in a way that can prepare them for what happens in the real world, and raise the awareness levels of many life changing Jacqueline situations. 3 3 And the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2012 goes to... By Eleni Schiza, 2 Blue and Gianna Gavriel, 4 Blue Mo Yan, is a Chinese novelist and a short story writer. Born in 17 February 1955, Mo Yan left school, during the Cultural Revolution, to work in an oil company. His passion in writing started in 1981, while he was a soldier. Three years later, he made a huge step in his career as a writer by publishing his first novella, A Transparent Radish. After this, many great works were followed like the novels The Garlic Ballads and The Republic of Wine. It s amazing that Mo Yan wrote one of its latest works, Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out in only 42 days. Furthermore, it s interesting that the writer likes writing his works on paper rather than typing them. Moreover, he is best known to the western world for his 1987 novel Red Sorghum Clan. He has even referred as "one of the most famous, widely pirated of all Chinese writers", by Donald Morrison, in TIME, news magazine In 2012, the writer was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Literature for his work as a writer "who with hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history and the contemporary". As it is well portrayed, he may not be as famous as other writers but his special way of writing and the fact that he still writes on paper, definitely counts for something, in order to gain a Nobel.

4 4 Past Events On October 30, the GCSC Current Affairs Society, presented The Contribution of Cyprus to WWII, by the War Veteran Mr. Loizos Demetriou and Academic and Journalist Mr Chrysanthos Chrysanthou.
