Biographical Sketch Tracy Barrett was born in Cleveland, Ohio in She learned how to read at the age of three. She grew up in New York State and earned a bachelor s degree in classics from Brown University. Barrett went on to earn a master s degree and a doctorate in Medieval Italian Literature at the University of California at Berkeley. She taught Humanities, Women s Studies, Italian, and English for several years at Vanderbilt University. Barrett published her first young adult novel, Anna of Byzantium, in 2000, and has published a number of other books since then, including The Sherlock Files series, Dark of the Moon, The Stepsisters Tale, and King of Ithaka. Most of Barrett s fiction combines history and myth from ancient Greek and Roman cultures and makes them accessible to younger audiences. However, Barrett has also written several books set in the contemporary period, including The Sherlock Files series and The Stepsister s Tale that draw on past literary and folkloric sources. Beyond young adult fiction, in 2004 Barrett published The Ancient Greek World with co-author Jennifer T. Roberts. It is an account of ancient Greek culture that has been said to present a lively and balanced narrative history of ancient Greece. Sources Tracy Barrett s website: Goodreads: Scope and Content The Tracy Barrett Papers contain several manually annotated typescripts, full-size galleys, editorial correspondence, illustrations, author notes, and research materials for the following books: The Sherlock Files series, Dark of the Moon, King of Ithaka, and On Estruscan Time. The papers are organized into two series: books and miscellaneous. Many of her typescripts and all of her correspondence are dated. Those undated typescripts were put in order of development as surmised by the development of the material.

3 The material in the Books Series includes typescripts, correspondence related to a particular book, illustrations, author notes, and research materials. The Books Series are arranged alphabetically by title. The material in the Miscellaneous Series includes sample chapters, author notes, and research materials. Those materials that could relate to any of The Sherlock Files series were placed in a subsection of the Miscellaneous Series, and those research materials that could not be connected to a particular Tracy Barrett book were placed in a General Miscellaneous subsection. Separate Material Oversized material, including galley drafts, are stored in Box 3.
