2 The Company Since its creation in 1979, Misati has designed and manufactured high-quality pneumatic fastening elements, also known as pincers & pneumatic clamps. It currently has 25 employees in its headquarters in Barcelona and a wide worldwide sales network. 3 Technology Misati has its own Research & Development Department, which designs and develops all Misati s fastening and structural elements used to make Robot Grips. All Misati s technology is patented. Misati also offers engineering services to its customers, either advising them on the use of its miniclamps (application engineering), revising their projects or developing projects of robot grips for them. 8 Ultralight Robot Grips Misati has many years of experience designing and manufacturing tubular robot grips for the automobile industry. These are very complex and sturdy grips, as they must withstand such tough environments as resistance or arc welding. Examples of robot grips with Misati s miniclamps at SEAT factory page 8

9 Ultralight Robot Grips However, there are many processes where such heavy and large grips slow down production and raise the price of the project. This is why Misati has developed the new ultralight robot grips, which are just as reliable and accurate but more productive and cheaper than tubular ones. 10 1. New Technopolymer Mountings & Brackets As its name suggests, the new Ultralight Robot Grips are characterized by its reduced weight. This drastic reduction in weight is possible because of our new range of mountings & brackets manufactured in technopolymer, which is a glassfibre reinforced polyamide perfect for parts subjected to severe forces, such as mountings and brackets of robot grips. 12 2. More Productive Grips We all know intuitively that the weight of the grip should be reduced, because it affects the productivity of the robot installation. The greater the weight (mass) to be moved by the robot, the bigger and slower the robot will be. Robot cycles will be longer and production of parts will be lower. The lighter the grip, the higher the production of the robot. page 12

14 2.1. Smaller Robots Misati s Ultralight Robot Grip will contribute to increase production of your robot installation. Investment will be reduced as smaller and cheaper robots may be used. page 14

15 2.2. Less Risk of Collision Normally, there isno free space in tools. It is very difficult to go in the tool with a large grip, with big clamps and split mountings on. Furthermore, it takes up some free space that we cannot afford to get rid of. Therefore, there is a high risk of collision. page 15

It is smaller and it takes up less space than tubular grips. Its entry and exit from the tool becomes easier and safer, thus reducing the risk of collision. page 16

20 2.4. Perfect Fastening of the Part Robots can work at a very high speed. Just in one cycle, the robot can change direction several times, with the corresponding acceleration or braking. If parts are not well fastenend, whenever the robot accelerates or brakes, there may be a risk that parts slide and fly out at any time. page 20

21 2.4. Perfect Fastening of the Part Misati s high-force-and-smaller clamps, which have a low air consumption and cost, can better adapt to the shape and size of the sheet to fasten it safely. page 21

Perfect Fastening of the Part Vertical, horizontal and circular movements of the robot, together with acceleration and braking factors, could make the clamp lose the sheet if there is no air pressure. So, even though air is missing, parts will be safely fastened by Misati s non-reversible clamps. Detachments and loss of position of these parts are prevented. Misati s clamps are non-reversible. Once closed, they can only be opened again by injecting compressed air into it. page 22

23 2.4. Perfect Fastening of the Part To avoid incidents or production stoppages, it is absolutely necessary to have the part controlled at all times. This is why the ultralight grip can control the presence of the part as well as detect if the clamp is open or closed. Both sensors can be used together or separately. page 23

24 3. Cheaper Grips We are all interested in controlling costs of new investments. We always wish to purchase the best product at the lowest possible price and recover the cost quickly. But, how could our customers save money with Robot Grips without losing any technical features? 25 3.1. Adaptable and Recoverable Structure Some users still opt for welded grips. A priori, they may seem cheaper, but those who have already used them know how difficult and expensive it is to modify them when there is a last-minute change on the part to be fastened. Most of the time the grip needs to be entirely remade. This is why itis cheaper and safer to work with modular and standard elements, as they are flexible and recoverable. = + page 25

Savings in Engineering Hours Designing a robot grip may be very expensive and laborious because, for example, there might be no space to go in the tool, special gripper fingers should be used to fasten the part, a last-minute change on the part could alter all the structure of the grip, etc. These and other factors entail time, and so cost. page 26

28 3.2. Savings in Engineering Hours As we will see further on, the Ultralight Robot Grip is made up of less parts, so it will take less time to design it. Misati s catalogue has, moreover, a wide range of standard gripper fingers, which can fasten safely all kinds of parts, even at high accelerations. With Misati s Ultralight Robot Grip, it is easier to design a grip (less engineering hours). page 28

29 3.3. Savings in the Number of Working Hours (Assembly & Adjustment) Even though elements are modular, assembling and especially adjusting a grip may be a time-consuming work. To adjust a terminal element a miniclamp or a centring miniclamp it is sometimes necessary to move all brackets and mountings of the structure. The problem is that, when any of these mountings or brackets move, the other elements of the structure can probably lose their position. Tubular Grip page 29

Savings in the Number of Working Hours (Assembly & Adjustment) Ultralight Grip The closer the degree of freedom is to the terminal element, the more accurate and easier will be the adjustment of the grip. This is why, unlike tubular grips, degrees of freedom in Ultralight Robot Grips are very close to miniclamps. Tubular Grip page 30

31 3.3. Savings in the Number of Working Hours (Assembly & Adjustment) Traditional tubular grips lose their position in points 3 & 4 when screws are loosened to adjust positions 1 or 2. Ultralight Grip 1 The arm of the grip being assembled will fall swinging like a pendulum The arm of the ultraligh grip slides along the profile slots, which act as a guide. Tubular Grip Position can be adjusted without the rest of the grip losing its orientation, which becomes very useful during assembly and adjustment as it saves time. page 31

34 Adjustment of a Robot Grip Apart from the assembly hours, the hours spent in the adjustment of the grip should always be added to the final cost. Adjusting a traditional tubular robot grip can last many hours, even days, as countless adjustments have to be made to get the theoretical geometry. During those hours, the robot will remain stopped without manufacturing anything. page 34
