Capri, who does have what seems to be a carte blanc from Childs to use his characters, is quite skillful in splicing sufficient details of her own Search for Reacher back story and the Reacher novel settings portrayed in the current Kim and Carlos episode that one does not NEED to have read either one. I think you will find, however, you will WANT to read both.in Deep Cover Jack, Otto and Gaspar become involved with a crew of former and current ATF/DEA agents, cops and assorted others with whom Reacher cooperated in an off-the books sting at an isolated Maine estate nearly a decade prior to the current action. One of the players then had gone over the edge in a private vendetta busting human traffickers and had been captured.one of theâ wellâ good guysâ had much information on Reacher; Otto and Gaspar, hungry for information, traded their help to the very off-the-books operation to retrieve their former comrade-in-arms from the estate.what, you thought I was going to give away the plot? We meet a few more fascinating characters along the way and the plot line jumps right out of current contemporary issues but not in a contrived way. This is something Capri handles very well. Her plots are intricate without being confusing. Her characters are realistic. Otto fears flying and is so high-strung she's on a constant diet of antacids. Gaspar is a devoted family man who has devised capable ways of getting around physical handicaps he's incurred in the line of duty. Diane's timing and penchant for telling a great tale while moving the overall story arc along with each installment is a pleasure to engage with.capri is working a whole new level of magic here, though. It has to be experienced to fully appreciate it. She has managed to take the highly popular, near-iconic Jack Reacher franchise into a whole new realm. "What happens to the people around Jack Reacher? What is the world like for those he encounters? How does Reacher impact the people he deals with, good and bad?" Diane Capri answers these questions. In so doing, she expands the Jack Reacher universe, fleshing out the people and the plot lines we've all come to love. Capri's books are a superb compliment to Lee Child's work and I've come to eagerly anticipate each succeeding installment. They'e not just filler until the next Reacher fix.
